Friday's Fave Five #433

Hi everyone.  Welcome to another Friday of setting our focus and looking for things to be thankful for.  Please join with us if you haven't already.

1.  quote on gratitude...this from Max Lucado's fb page and his new book

Along with FFF I love these kinds of little reminders and definitions of gratitude and what cultivating it in our lives does.  Makes me mindful and intentional.  And it's true, gratitude does make you look at the good things in our lives rather than placing our focus onto everything negative.

2.  First butterflies of the year spotted.  As the kids and I were outside playing this week we spotted at least 3 different kinds of butterflies within a couple of hours.  The small, fluttery white cabbage butterflies, some beige-y peachy colored ones and our swallowtail is back.  The lovely swallowtail didn't land so that I could take a picture but here's one from a couple years back.

3.  Movie date with hubby.   Saturday afternoon my favorite guy and I went to the movies to see the last installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.   Hubby loves the 3D and there was a showing in the afternoon in that format so off we went.  We like going in the afternoon as opposed to the evenings because it is not as crowded.  I must say both of us really enjoyed the show.  We were going with a bit of trepidation because the Pirates franchise has been hit and miss for us.  We loved the 1st, really disliked the 2nd and 3rd, liked the 4th.  I thought it was a nice wrap up.  And sheesh, I even shed a few tears.  Who would have thunk.

4.   Gift of spaghetti squash.  An old friend whom I haven't seen for many, many years out of the blue private messaged me on facebook and asked if I wanted spaghetti squash.  They were given way more than they could eat and she remembered from eons ago, I'm talking about 30 years, that we had first tasted spaghetti squash at their house and loved it.  When I arrived she gave me 4 big squash.  But what made this most special was the fact that she remembered that.  Gave me the warm fuzzies, it did.

5.  God's grace extended in the midst of tragedy.  There was a very sad tragic death in our church body this week.  And in the midst of the pain, what is a blessing is to see the congregation gather around the family in support and love, being there for them in whatever way they can even though they do not know most of them.

What were your favorite blessings and what are you thankful for this week?

how cool that your friend from long ago lives near you amd was able to give you the squash. My hubby loves itbut that is one squash i really dont care for. Maybe i will try it again and look up some new recipes for cooking it. how do you make it? do you have a fave recipe?

We also had a tragedy strike our church ( last week) and it is so comforting to know people are rallying around in actions and in prayer. I am glad you experience this at your church, too!

Since I've seen the ads for the new Pirates movie, I have been trying to remember if I have seen all the others or not. I know we saw the first two, maybe the third one, but I don't think we've seen the fourth. I was surprised they made another one yet curious about it, too. I also like to go when the theater is not crowded. Unfortunately, since my husband's eye surgery a few years ago, watching the big screen bothers him, so we usually wait til movies come out to rent. I've heard they're supposed to be building a new theater near us - I hope so, so that then I can take in a movie that I want to see when it's first out.

Spaghetti squash is one of those veggies I have wanted to try but haven't yet. That's sweet that your old friend remembered that you liked them.

I'm so sorry about the tragedy in your church family. It's such a blessing in those times to see God's people pull together to support each other.

That was a special gift you friend gave to you and you are right, more than just the physical gift of the squash.

I am sorry to hear about the tragedy in your church family. Community certainly can help us get through those HARD times better.

I saw the Pirates movie and like you was pleased to say "I like it." And I prefer morning or afternoon movie times as well. Besides a less crowded theatre, It feels so decadent to go at such times.

Have a GREAT week.

Spaghetti squash is wonderful! Great substitute for spaghetti noodles for a low-carb diet. I love it with butter, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.

Very sorry for the tragedy in your church.

I would eat a lot more spaghetti squash if The Professor liked it. Wasn't it sweet that your friend remembered? And gifted you some?

I too have seen how the Church has gathered around hurting people and helped them through some really tough things. I'm glad you are part of such a great group of people.

Cracking up over Gattina's comment. I guess some foods are regional for sure. The church is the best when we rally around others. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
