Pass the Sunscreen, Please

Well, I never thought I'd see the day, but yesterday was it.  What is the world coming to when, in the first week of January, my city in Alberta, Canada was warmer than Fort Lauderdale, Florida yesterday! A balmy 15*C (59*F).  Maybe I need to break out the sunscreen and floppy hat.  But the hat would probably be whipped off my head from the wind in two seconds and someone in Eastern Canada would find it.

It is seriously scary though.  It is so tinder dry around these parts.  And bringing that warmth is those crazy winds. 110km an hour in some areas.  Flipping semi trailers and emergency vehicles on the highway.  Knocking down a power pole, it sparked a huge grass fir again whipped into craziness by the wind, it covered 60 km in no time whatsoever and 3 families lost their homes and some animals and outbuildings.

In all seriousness, I think, no, I know I really would rather have snow.   I know, call doctors in white coats now.

High winds make me so nervous. We have huge silver maples in our yard and I'm always afraid they'll blow over or lose a major limb. I'm glad you stayed safe. Fifty nine doesn't sound bad at all though. :)

We're supposed to have 49 tomorrow and I'm very excited. This has been the mildest winter I can remember and I am definitely enjoying it.

59* is incredible. For us at this time of year! Our normal average around this time is in the 20's.

We're pretty balmy here, too. That really is too bad about those winds though! I'll put off calling the white coats...

That does sound balmy for Canada! We had just a smidgen of snow Sat. night nut nothing that stuck. I like the occasional snowfall better than having ti around much of the winter, but if I had to chose between that and those kinds of winds, I think I'd choose the snow, too.

That's crazy. Here, we get the warm dry winds from Oct-April which blow from the desert to the ocean. They can be sooo dry. I do hope you get some moisture soon, but not all the snow at one time. :)

Same crazy wind - or better said - storm, here in Belgium. But we need a very strong umbrella instead of a sun hat! It's been terrible! Although I must say, I've seen some sunshine and a little bit of blue sky this afternoon as well!

The weather here in NOrth AMerica is CRAZY this winter. We had our first temps below 25 the last 3 days (i'm in Eastern New York State near the foothills of the adirondacks and the MA berkshire mountains to the east of us). it got down to 6 degrees on Tuesday and today it's back up to 35...then tomorrow supposed to be high 40s again. and the wind is unbelievable!! It's usually snowy and cold all January here.....Central NY has snow and we don't!!

Susanne! Your city was warmer than mine? I believe it -- it's been SO cold here, for us at least! Hope weather sanity returns soon to both places...!

We're already hitting the 80's here, we had 87 degrees the other day LOL

I so miss my cold at times :)

As for your question about the camera, yes, I just messed around with it myself and figured it out.

The basic things you need to know....I always shoot in manual mode, or I will shoot in AV (aperture) which controls the amount of light coming into your lens....or TV (shutter speed), controls how fast your lens shoots the pic. ISO is the biggest thing....the higher you go the brighter the pic but also the grainier.

Just a few things :)

Well, I knew our temperatures were warmer than usual, but for you to get that warm? Hope you had your sunscreen on :-)
