What Was I Thinking?

Updated to add: Don't forget about Friday's Fave Five tomorrow. I'll have Mr. Linky ready and I'd love for you to join in. Here's the details. Now on to the real post of the day:

Over the past couple of years, I did not have any texting plan on my phone. I never used it and never saw any need for it. It was just an extra expense. Then last month the phone companies in Canada decided to start charging 15 cents for every incoming text along with outgoing if you did not have a texting plan. So seeing Kay was moving, and I figured it would be a nice way to "talk" each day, I bought a 30 texts for $3 plan. What was I thinking? Guess what I was doing on the phone this morning. Talking to the phone company to up my plan because in 4 days I already used up my 30 alloted texts. I now have a plan for 2005 free outgoing texts and unlimited incoming for $10. I wonder if that will do me or if I'll have to go totally unlimited for $5 more.

Now if I could just get my texting speed up past 10 words a minute, I won't be subjected to snickering, whispered comments and knowing glances amongst my texting teens. Or the subject of Tia's recordings on her camera because for some reason watching this amuses her and her brother to the point of laughing tears. Smart alec kids! :vD

And by the way, or btw in text speak, does anyone have a texting translation book that I can borrow for all these abbreviations? It's a whole other language this texting thing.

I love having text messaging. It's such a wonderful way to keep up with all sorts of kids. Then I don't feel like I'm missing out on even the littlest things in their lives. It is amazing how fast they rack up though. Hope you're doing well since moving your daughter, that God is filling your days with wonderous new things.

We had to get a texting unlimited plan for our daughter a while back after the shock of one of our bills. Yikes. That's all her age group do is text. I can't text yet. I learned how to read them but I've never sent one :0)

LOL! It takes me forever to text, but it comes in handy, especially if you want to get through to them but don't want to interrupt whatever they're doing.

And, oddly, me extended family who rarely remembers birthday cards has taken to texting on birthdays. It's fun.

I have texting but barely use it because our oldest is trying to earn more mins. and she is the only one i'd text.
Believe it or not, our local city newspaper ran an article for parents of how to speak text! It was great...unfortunately I think it ended up in our recycling bin and is long gone...
good luck and have fun

Link away. :) I've always been so allergic to cats that I really try to avoid them but this cracked me up. I thought they had been painted at first.

I admire you - I don't have a clue how to do that yet. Of course, I don't have a cell phone either...

Too funny... I can't text fast enough, either.... yet another sign of aging, I guess.

I can just imagine what you look like - me! lol We also have unlimited texting for $15 a month, and it is necessary with a teenager! I enjoy texting. It is just easier (like email) than having a whole conversation sometimes. Have fun!

I still haven't given in to the texting on my phone thing. In most other areas, I consider myself fairly up-to-date, tech wise, but not with that. Maybe one day, but right now it just doesn't do anything for me! Like you, I just pay per text, if someone forgets and sends me a text msg, I have to pay for incoming as well as outgoing. I always call them back though, and say, you know, I don't text!

Have fun!

Texting, alas, is beyond me. I just can't get the hang of typing on a phone! But good for you and for figuring out a plan that'll work.

It is amazing how fast some kids can text!! I think you will build up to it! I also think it's a great way for you and your daughter to stay in touch!

My kids think it is funny too watching me text .who am I kidding..half the time I just dictate to them especially when it comes to talking to one of their siblings.

And if you ever come across that translation book or anything about the texting language itself, let me know. :)

I find unlimited texting to be almost a must for me with my kids!

Susanne, I have to admit I can't even send one text. I tried to reply to dh's text one day, and it came out looking like cuss word symbols..

I've got to ask one of the kids to teach me how, I guess. Makes me feel very old and out of it!

The book that I won arrived today. Thanks so much!!!

And texting?? I type at amazing speed. Anybody remember the old selectric typewriters (The ones with the ball with letters on it?) I could type so fast that I had to pause at the end of the line for the machine to catch up or it would mistype. For real.

It takes me so long to do a 3 line text message that I could type an entire 5 page deposition!!! Honest. I am slower than SLOW!!!
