Monday Mish Mash and Meal Plan

If you're here for Menu Plan Monday, feel free to scroll down abit if you don't want the chat. But you're always welcome to grab a coffee and join in on the chat!

Whew, what a busy weekend. I'm sitting on the couch this morning trying to get my eyes to stay open. Friday night saw me sitting at the walk in clinic. It seems I have a little infection developed in my hand where one of the stitches was. The doctor didn't seem too worried and thought it was just my body taking care of the "inner" stitches like it's supposed to but that it was coming up to the surface. In any case, I'm now on a round of anti biotics to get that all cleared up. I see the surgeon for my 6 weeks check tomorrow so hopefully it will be all gone by then and hopefully he'll tell me I can get rid of that red splint for good!

Saturday saw me at the mall instead of outside enjoying the beautiful weather looking for a dress to wear to Kay's graduation. I can't believe her graduations ceremonies are in less than a month. I'm starting to feel all melancholy, what with the grad coming up and all the plans starting to kick in to get things arranged for her moving away for school come fall. It's hard to even type those words. I know it's a natural order of life, this letting go of your child to become an adult, this letting them out of the nest you created, where they will be totally making their own decisions, but it has just come upon me so fast. I'm so not ready to watch her leave, but I know God has good things in store for her. Told you I was getting melancholy. Just to say, I did not find a dress. Sigh. Now I have to that whole shopping trip again next weekend.

The weather was just gorgeous here. Guess what we did Sunday? We grilled steaks for the first time this year. Yes, spring is truly here when we can grill steaks and actually sit outside to eat them. It was 24*C (that's 75* F for my States friends). With no wind. Sunshine galore! There was people in church with sun burns. Sorry Beck. I know you're digging out. But I'm sure we will get one more dump of the white stuff sometime before the end of May, usually right about the time the trees just start to open their buds. So far, they are predicting 0*C (32*F) and snow for next Sunday. We'll see how right them weather men are. I wouldn't mind if they weren't right this time.

Onto Meal Plan Monday, and can I just say that the Chicken Creole and the Taco Bowl from last weeks menu were absolutely delish. The only thing I did different on the Chicken Creole was add a little extra of the Cajun seasoning because we like it spicier and then I added cornstarch mixed with a bit of water to thicken up the sauce in the last half hour of cooking time. It was soooo good. Definitely a keeper. The taco bowl was a huge hit with the kids. Thanks to Laura for that one.

Monday: spaghetti/meat sauce, Barb's Cheddar Bay Biscuits, apple walnut salad

Tuesday: crockpot pulled jerk pork sandwiches, home fries, sliced cukes

Wednesday: poppyseed chicken, noodles, broccoli/cauliflower mix

Thursday: Sweet and Sour Meatballs, rice

Friday: scrounge day

Saturday: grilled smokies, buns, coleslaw

Sunday: crockpot honey orange chicken, rice

Sorry to hear about your hand, but I am glad it wasn't serious and am believing for the best when you go back to the doctor.

Oh, I can't even stand to read about your daughter graduating and preparing for college. When you talked about the "nest" you had created, it almost did me in. *sob* Susanne, you are handling it so much better than me! I am glad you are strong. That is a blessing.

Enjoy your beautiful weather. Ours is acting so STRANGE!!! It's too cold today. I am ready for warm spring weather.

I'm a bit hungry now, but then again I'm ALWAYS hungry;)

I pray that you can be splint free very very soon. And that your hand is healing well.

I can't even imagine all the emotions with your daughter graduating. Someday I will I guess. But right now it's only 1 month until my husband graduates:):):)

Hope you have a good week!

Oh that is too bad you didn't find a dress, don't you hate that. Do you have something in mind?

Glad you liked the taco bowl, a new favorite here for sure.

Yep we had a gorgeous day ourselves at 6 degrees C over the weekend...woohoo. Now my front lawn only has about 2.5 feet of snow!

Sorry about the infection in your hand...hopefully the antibiotics will kick it all away.

We had great weather this past weekend too...almost 80 degrees! But now it's rainy and cold again all week!

I can just imagine the bittersweet feelings of your daughter graduating, Susanne!
Excitement, pride...and a bit of sadness, I'm guessing. In my mind, it seems a long way off but I know it will happen way before I'm ready!

(Oh, and I posted the exciting Part 3...I know you're on the edge of your seat!) ;)

I change about 45,879 diapers a day - I so cannot relate to graduation!

I hear it happens before you know it though!

One of the ladies I work with had a similar experience with her hand, a slight infection at the sight of the stitches, it was painful, but cleared up quickly.

Oh dress shopping for graduation.......I am certain I will be very reflective and melancholy when my son's graduation rolls around. It's a normal mom thing. :)
Dinner sounds good this week.....I may stop over one night! LOL!

Glad that you're hand is not in immediate peril. Praying that it all heals quickly and that you won't have to buy a dress that coordinates with the splint! You know that I understand your melancholy. Also, how could it have been 75 where you are and 32 with sleet where we are Sunday??? It's supposed to warm up this week. Have a great day.

Oh, I am sorry about the infection!! Hope it heals soon.

Graduation is such a mix for parents -- excitement and melancholy. We've had two graduate, but they have lived at home for college except for one year in the dorms. It's still a step away from home, though, especially as they're gone from early morning til late at night. It's funny, when my kids were little I looked forward to the empty nest, but as the time for it grows closer, I am dreading it. As you said, I know it is natural and the Lord will take care of them, but to have someone you've had close everyday contact with and care for for 18-20 years move out of the realm of everyday contact is a loss. I have a lot to keep me busy, that's not a problem, but I can't imagine not missing them sorely.

I'd better stop before I get myself all teary......

I know mothers before us have survived and God will help us through. But it will be tough.

It's true that it's the natural order of things that our children grow up and leave us, but that doesn't mean it isn't almost unbearable for us.

I cried like a baby at both my daughters' graduations. And three months later, I cried again when they went away to college. Heck! I still get a little weepy when Mandy and Aaron visit for a couple of days and then drive away.

So you know, it's also the natural order of life that moms get very emotional when children leave and we do it over and over again.

It does get better over time, but boy, the first time they leave is HARD!
