Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. Pausing at the end of the week to just stop the rush and take note of the blessings that God has brought into my life. Thank you for starting out another year with me and joining in. And if you are new, thanks for stopping by and joining with us. Hopefully you will become one of our little community building gratefulness and thankfulness into our daily lives.
~ it's Friday ~ Yes, my first thing I am grateful for is that it's Friday. Boy, oh boy, jumping back into a full on work week right after having 12 days off, and busy, fun filled, late night, chaotic ones at that, was rough going. I've never been an early morning person so jumping right back to early mornings was hard. And the kids came back to dayhome, very loud and full of excited energy so I've been exhausted by the end of each day. I'm thankful to have these two days to rest and recoup.
~ big hugs from little arms ~ the children in dayhome have been so sweet and very generous with their hugs both to me and to each other this week. It's so precious to receive those spontaneous hugs and know that you were missed.
~ book store sales ~ I popped into the bookstore knowing all their calendars would be on sale and while there I saw two books on sale that finished off a couple of series that I'm reading. One was 30% off and one was 50% off. Couldn't pass those up.
~ new goals and habits ~ though I'm not a huge goal setter, never have been, there have been a few habits that I have been wanting to change in 2026. The main one being to start and end my day with bible reading and prayer. Before bed is not a problem for me, but early morning is tough. I start work at 7:30 a.m. so I have my work cut out for me. I am not an early morning person, and my habit since my early 20's after washing my face and brushing my teeth is to grab a coffee and turn on the morning news show and basically sit in a stupor for 1/2 hour trying to get my brain in gear. I've been doing it many, many, many years. So this will be a big habit for me to change. But this week, I was able to do it 3 out of the 5 work mornings so that to me is a win for this week. Hopefully I can continue on and improve until I've established a new morning routine.
~ holiday restore done ~ Christmas is packed away for another year and rooms restored. It was a lot of work but now that it's done it's so nice to have things back to normal. I love the holiday decor but it's also nice to get back to less stuff everywhere. It's like there is room to breathe again.
What have been the blessings in your life this week?

I am not a morning person and though I have tried Bible reading early, it does not work for me. God wired me a certain way, and I do what works best for me. Late morning and afternoon to study and evening to read the Bible. I do admire you trying. I tried the other day and fell back to sleep. Glad your house is back to normal. It is sad to see it go, but nice to have order again. Have a great weekend!
There have been lots of hugs with the toddlers I work with also! It's so sweet. I love having the holiday things put away and the house put back in order
Love your list of faves! I have always been an early riser due to the summer jobs I had in my late teens/early 20s and then the grad work teaching, then full time teaching having to commute 30-45 min depending on which Capital Region town i was living in. Now that I'm retired, I can PAUSE in the mornings over the Scriptures vs rushing through them. What i do to wake up my brain (as I've aged it's harder to get going...) is I play Words with Friends daily challenges (there's 3) while watching The Today Show for the first 15-20 min. I also play Strands, Wordle and 1-2 Linked In games. These are quick for the most part while I have my first cup of coffee. Then I'm ready for time in the Word/my journal, etc. I pray as I make breakfast and throughout the day and again before bed. I also work on various Bible studies in the late afternoons. It's been a good routine for me, and I'm guessing you're going to do well with how you've set yours up. I can't imagine NOT starting my day with my precious Savior.
YAY for book sales!!
Those toddler hugs sure are special!!
ENJOY your relaxing weekend.
Yes, it has been a very long week! So thankful it is Friday. YAY for bookstore finds!
Yay for weekends! And little person hugs! How cool to find books you wanted on sale. We got our decorations put away, too--a little sad that the holidays are over, yet nice to get the house back in order.
I'm not a morning person, either (funny how few of us are). I do like to have my devotional time first thing, though, because my mind is less cluttered than in other parts of the day. I also have a couple of word games I play after I get up and may do a couple of things on the computer first to wake myself up. I like to start and end the day with the morning and evening portions of Daily Light on the Daily Path compiled by Samuel Bagster. I love that it is all Scripture. In the morning, it helps my mind change gears from everything else to my Bible and prayer time.
I was encouraged by an interview with Valerie Shephard (Elisabeth Elliot's daughter) where she was asked about her devotional time. She shared her rather extensive routine, but admitted she was only able to do that a few times a week rather than every day because of the needs of her husband and children. One of the churches we went to had a Bible reading schedule that ran for five days a week, with Saturday being a catch-up day, if needed. Then we discussed what we read Sunday morning. I didn't usually need the catch-up day, so I enjoyed reading something else on Saturdays.
I can only imagine your exhaustion at the end of your day. Happy two days off! I'm the opposite of you and sit in a stupor at night. :) Trying to do 2nd Bible readings, etc. before I go to sleep.
