Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. It's that time in the week to slow ourselves down and pause to look for th blessings God has granted over the past week.
~ successful move to w1ndows 11 ~ my computer has been trying to get me to upgrade to the newer version almost since the time I purchased it 3+ years ago. I've avoided it right to the bitter end and then some. I hate the learning curve that comes with technology stuff and it always stresses me out. Well the due date of mid-October came and went and I still didn't upgrade. But I finally decided I should. Hubby backed up my whole computer just in case and we bit the bullet. I'm happy to say it was a relatively easy transition and so far haven't found anything too hard to find or relearn.
~ lunch with our friends/neighbors ~ Tuesday our neighbors, who are also friends, treated us to lunch at an all you can eat Sushi/Thai restaurant. It was so much fun getting to visit with them and catch up. It was also an adventure trying some new items we'd never ordered before that were favorites of theirs.
~ night out with my sister ~ both of our birthdays are in December and this year we decided we no longer want to do gifts of stuff but we wanted to go out and do something together. A Bee Gees tribute band was coming to town so we got ourselves some tickets. We made a whole evening of it and went out to eat before hand. It was so nice doing something like that with her. We've never really done that kind of evening out with just us two before. Dinner was full of laughs and relaxing, and the sold out show was fun too as all the Bee Gees music is so nostalgic for me.
~ Turtles cheesecake ~ I think it was the very first flavor of cheesecake I ever had. Of course, when out for dinner at the restaurant that originally had it on the menu before it cheesecake became super popular as a dessert, I had to get a slice. I haven't had it in many, many years and it was as yummy as I remembered. It's not a dense heavy cheesecake but light and very creamy. Though it was sweeter than I remembered probably because I have cut sugar back a lot since my younger days.
~ gorgeous blue sky ~ though it brought an insane wind (gusts up to 100km - about 60 mph!) hiding behind the chinook arch was a very picturesque blue sky making a nice picture.
~ taking a moment ~ Tuesday was Remembrance Day where we take the time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many and honor the men and women who have served Canada and fought for freedom. It is with a grateful heart that we take that 2 minutes of silence on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 a.m.
What were your favorite five blessings of the week?

My sister and I don't share a birthday month but I love the idea of getting together to celebrate something. Turtle cheesecake is absolutely the best!!
i also take the time on Veterans Day (what we call Remembrance Day here in the States) to pray and reflect on the vets I know personally and the ones who are currently serving. In fact, I just discovered from another blogger that not all states close the public schools that day!! (here in NYS we always have had Veterans Day as a federal holiday...even my husband was off!) We have special speeches in towns, parades, etc.
I love that your sister and you celebrated your birthdays in that way! how fun! With my sisters, I now (as of 2 years ago) do a small gift and take them to lunch or coffee...their choice.....mainly because we no longer do xmas gifts.
YAY for neighbors treating you to a fun lunch spot with new to you choices. We have an Asian place here in the city where you pay one price and can order anything from the thai, korean and japanese selections. It's pricey but SO good. We've only been once as a family (Father's Day).
That's a beautiful photo of the blue sky...reminds me of our skies here in late November....
HAPPY WEEKEND
Faith: In our city we have 2 services on Remembrance Day that are available to go to. One outside, one inside. The outside one also has fly bys of different planes that were used during war. Although it's a federal stat holiday, I too, was surprised to learn it is not a provincial stat holiday in every province.
My computer has been nagging me to switch over, too. I may wait til my oldest son, who works in IT, is here in December. I'm glad to hear it went well! The get-together with friends sounds fun, as does your birthday celebration with your sister. Our anniversary is in December, but we're the same way--we don't do gifts but enjoy an evening out. What a pretty blue sky under the clouds! I love the idea of two minutes of silence on Remembrance Day.
I love experience based gifts like the one you and your sister planned. The older we get the less material gifts we need. :) That sky is something! Happy weekend to you.
Your birthday experience sounds lovely! Great idea!
What a beautiful blue sky!
I like your choice of gift with your sister. An experience shared is the best. My brother and sister-in-law have the same wedding anniversary as my husband and I do. So whenever we are together, we celebrate our anniversaries together.
Love the idea of the two minutes of silence on November 11th at 11am.
Glad you got Windows11 uploaded successfully. Not an easy task.
How fun for you and your sister to celebrate together. And the BeeGees music would be great to listen to. So many ‘memory songs’ for me from that group.
I had the same with Window 11, Rick always did these things for me, now I have to do it myself. I waited and waited because they say that it is to make it easier, but I find new things always more difficult. I did nothing and one day it had made self service, it was installed and I hadn't even realized it ! How nice to go out with you sister ! I am so happy to be here and we are such a nice family, my friends from my "former" life are all dead or also in homes. From 80 on it's really a new life. But now I am used to and for me it was the best solution.
What a beautiful blue sky and what a great way to celebrate your birthdays. We need to get new laptops as our current ones won't take the move to Windows 11. Another thing on my to do list lol. Hope you're having a good weekend.
Hi Susanne, I did not upgrade. I think I got a one year deferment. My sister and I like to get together for her birthday which is December 1. I love cheesecake and I am glad you enjoyed yours. Have a nice weekend!
