Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. Please join us as we intentional pause the busyness in our days and choose to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings God gave us during the past week. Doing this practice on a regular basis helps us to stay mindfully aware of the good gifts in our lives. Practicing it during the good times helps us to get into the habit so that when more difficult times come or those weeks that are so incredibly mundane and routine roll around, we already know how to look for the blessings hidden underneath. Participating in FFF is a little nudge each week to help that habit develop. Please join in with us.
~ time with my sis ~ my sister and I spent a little time appliance shopping this week together. While not the most fun activity per se, it was still fun because we did it together. Sometimes you just have to carve out time together in whatever way that comes along.
~ new recipes ~ I like trying new recipes when I have the time and I'm trying to add some new casseroles to my lists. Some nights I'm just to tired to cook anything fancy so I want simple and with no crazy ingredients I don't have on hand. The other night I tried this Creamy Rotel Pasta with Ground Beef. I didn't have heavy cream but used the 2% milk I had on hand and it still turned out good. Hubby really liked it so it's going in the keeper file.
~ overseas text ~ my good friend is on a European holiday. Hungary is where my family came from so I had a delightful surprise when she texted me to say hello from Budapest. It was nice of her to think of me and bring a smile to my face.
~ homemade popcorn ~ every once in a while on a Saturday Hubby will cook up a big batch of his world famous popcorn. Okay, maybe not world famous, but famous in our house and amongst our friends. It's so good. On days he makes it I know we'll probably sit down and watch a movie we've been wanting to see and have a nice relaxing late afternoon.
~ time off ~ today at precisely 4:45 will mark the start of 10 days off. I am soooo looking forward to this week. We aren't really going anywhere except we do have tickets to see The Lion King Musical but other than that we'll just take it day by day. I hope to do lots of reading, sleeping in, walking, a few household chores that have been put off for years and catching up on blog reading and commenting that I have gotten way behind on.
What have been your blessings from last week?

Popcorn sounds delish! I love nice relaxing time off like that where there isn't any pressure to do anything but relax. Have a wonderful time off. You have been through a lot and you need some decompression and contemplative time.
I'm so happy you get to have a nice long break from daycare duties!! YAY I am going to pray you are refreshed, both physically and spiritually. Enjoy every minute...and yay for scoring tickets to see Lion King the Musical!! I'd love to see it. We haven't yet.
I love that your sis didn't mind going with you to appliance shop. Mine would be like No way. Well, one sister would if I offered to get her a glass of wine afterwards. ha!
that recipe looks delish. I make something similar in the winter months minus milk or cream. I use two different cheeses and add in broccoli with the tomatoes. it's DELISH and sometimes I leave out the vegan "beef" and just do it with black beans, broccoli and chopped tomatoes. SO good
I hope you have a wonderful start to your staycation!
How neat to have time with your sister, even for appliance shopping.
I make something like that recipe, but with only cheddar cheese and chili powder, not the other spices, plus Worcestershire sauce. It might be interesting to change it up and try this one.
That's so neat that your friend texted you from Budapest!
Your ten days off sound lovely! Have fun!
Happy happy holiday to you! Enjoy the rest and relaxation!
You are truly blessed to have a sis to spend time with. And a friend who remembered to send you photos from Hungary.
And thank you for faithfully reminding us all to be grateful for our blessings.
Woohoo~happy 10 days off to you! Lord willing, Greg and I will be in Budapest the very end of February and then on a river cruise that also ends in Budapest. Hopefully we'll find some good traditional Goulash!
Yes, I hear you about carving out time. Even retired, it takes intentionality to make things happen. Glad you had some enjoyable sister time.
Isn't it great to experiment with something that winds up being a keeper?? How nice that you had one with ingredients at the ready.
Oh my. Ten Days Off! I'm sure you're thrilled to have some extended not-work time to enjoy books and sleep and that fun musical.
You made me think of the 1st popcorns in my life ! My American aunt sent popcorn to my mother for me, which she cooked like my aunt had written but she had forgotten to mention that the pot had to be covered. Suddenly the rice corn looking things exploded and covered my screaming mother, me and the whole kitchen with this suddenly white stuff ! I have never forgotten my 1st popcorns !!

Oh my! That is quite the step she forgot to tell you. You had me laughing as my imagination pictured it all. Hopefully further attempts were more successful and you enjoy it!
