Friday's Fave Five #709

UPDATE:  LINKY NOW WORKING!

Happy Friday everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.  I hope you had a delicious meal yesterday or are looking forward to one sometime this weekend and were able to spend some time with some loved ones reflecting on the good things in your life to be thankful for.  This American (and Canadian in October) makes it easy to think about how blessed we truly are and reminds us to be thankful but really it is a practice we should do daily.  Here, as a group, we find encouragement to do just that and once a week share our five favorites.  Please join in if you haven't already.

~ podcast ~ I have always admired the stand that Candace Cameron Bure takes for the Lord publicly and when I saw she was starting a podcast I started to listen.  What an uplifting, God honoring place she has produced.  I am always looking for the next episode and have re-listened to some of them also.  So encouraging.  You can find it here.

~ hot soup on a cold day ~ I love soup at the best of times.  To me it's so comforting and reminds me of my mom who was a soup maker extraordinaire.  Saturday was a run around day for me and it was hovering around the freezing mark but the humid wind made it seem colder so by the time I was heading home in the afternoon I felt quite chilled to the bone and was going through in my thoughts what I had in the fridge to make some kind of soup for supper.  I thought of the bag of broccoli that had been nipped a bit last week when my fridge decided to freeze all my produce and Broccoli Cheese soup immediately was the decision.  I was at the grocery store for my mom so bought a garlic bread to go with it.  I followed this recipe and in less that 30 minutes had a delicious, nourishing, comforting supper that warmed me right up.  Warning:  It is not for the lactose intolerant or the fat conscious.  But you can modify as you need. The only thing I changed was I used 2% milk instead of half and half and I used 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese with habanero pepper in it along with 1 cup regular cheddar because I needed to use it up.  Perfection in a bowl.

~ new chocolate love ~ not a lot of words needed for this one.  Saw this at the store, made it's way into my cart and the rest is history.  I don't eat a lot of chocolate bars, I find them way too sweet, but a square or two of this is delicious when the craving hits.

~ movie at the theatre ~  I haven't attended a movie in a theatre since before covid.  Tuesday a friend and I went to see The Chosen season 3 premiere (Episode 1 and 2 of season 3 of the series).   It was actually held over for a week here in Canada by popular demand.  It came in 3rd in the box offices for that weekend beating out some big Hollywood films which is pretty amazing.  It was excellent.  I laughed a bit, cried a lot and it made me think and gave me and my friend much to talk over as we drove home.   And so fun to be back to seeing movies having the theatre experience.  If you haven't yet seen any episodes of this series, season 1 is now on Netflix.

~ birthday celebrations ~ my dear Hubby's birthday was on Monday but we celebrated on Sunday with our son who made the 2 hour drive down to take us out to dinner.  We went to our favorite Italian restaurant to which our son had never been before and had an excellent meal, complete with the yummy tiramisu pictured, and a lovely visit while celebrating a truly special man.

What were your favorite blessings from the last week?

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends!

I never liked soups, even as a child. Only the very thick ones with lentils or peas, which are a meal of themselves. But liquid soup chase me away ! I don't know the movie you saw, I have to say that for the moment if I go to the movies I have too see a good comedy !
How nice of your son to come for his Dads birthday ! Italian food is always good except the plates from the south which can set you on fire so spicy they are !
There is something with Mr. Linky it doesn't open so I couldn't put my link in

Sounds like a great week of special blessings..so funny because I mentioned chocolate too. I want to start watching The Chosen. I'm going to add it to my netflix list. I started episode 1 a while ago but couldn't get into it for some reason (maybe i was multitasking so my mind was distracted). i've only heard great things about it. Glad you got to enjoy a movie and lunch out this week!

Happy Birthday to your Dave!! Your son is very handsome!

I tried to link up my post (i'm still in MA but brought my laptop) but it wouldn't open for me. (the mr linky thing).

Belated happy birthday to your hubby! It was so nice your son could come. I've appreciated Candace's testimony, but I haven't heard her podcast. I love good soups, too, especially on a cold day.

Mister Linky isn't working for me, so I'll leave my link here for now: https://barbaraleeharper.com/2022/11/25/fridays-fave-five-671/.

Hi Susanne. That is a great picture of you and your husband with your son. It's so nice that he made such an effort for his dad's birthday. Nice memory. That broccoli cheese soup looks wonderful. I think I will be making some of that this weekend for sure. We also love The Chosen and will get the entire season 3 on DVD when it comes out. It is a truly great production. Thanks for that podcast recommendation. I am always looking for good, uplifting stuff to listen to! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you again soon!

Happy Birthday to your hubby! It is wonderful when we can celebrate with our children, isn't it?
Love that soup! I'm a winter soup girl, too. Usually minestrone or lentil here at Willow's Cottage.
I haven't seen The Chosen yet. Hopefully, this winter we will take the time to watch Season 1.
We did have a wonderful holiday yesterday. Happy American Thanksgiving weekend to you.

What a special treat to have your son with you for your husband's birthday. And a bonus to be at a fave restaurant with fave foods.

Sometimes, I think the best part of the movie-going experience is all the discussions afterwards.

Man, your soup looks fantastic. I'm going to check out the recipe and think about subs.

Thanks for that plug for CCB's new podcast. She's been dragged through the mud for her stand, but God honors those who honor Him.

I love everything about your blog post today, Susanne! The broccoli cheese soup looks wonderful. I have part of a turkey carcass that my daughter in law sent home with me which will turn into soup very soon!

That's so nice that your son was able to come and that you were all able to celebrate your husband's birthday together.

I've saved the link to Candace's podcast. I didn't know she had one either. I do admire her standing up for her beliefs. She and her brother Kirk get a lot of criticism for their stand, but they still don't waver!

And The Chosen! I haven't seen it in theaters yet because I have no one interested to go. I just don't like going places like that by myself. So, I have to wait until December when it's released on the app. I've devoured seasons 1 and 2, bought the DVDs and I understand this season is emotional and very impactful. I love it that it's ranking way up there with the big Hollywood productions!

Have a lovely weekend.

Belated birthday wishes to your hubby. Lovely photo of the 3 of you celebrating. I enjoy soups in wintertime but would rarely have them at other times of the year. Mmm that chocolate looks yummy. Not sure we get it here but will be looking. Can't remember the last time I went to the cinema but definitely pre Covid. Enjoy the rest of the weekend Susanne.

The soup looks delicious. We love broccoli cheese soup, so I followed your link. I've just discovered the Chunky Chef! I made her scalloped potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner, and they were the best we've ever had.

The photo of you with your son is so nice. How sweet of him to come to town and take you to dinner. As much as I miss the little ones, grown up kids are so nice to have, too. :)
