Friday's Fave Five #599

Hi welcome to the last FFF of August.  I can't believe that it's already here.  I know the calendar still has 3 weeks of summer but in my mind September 1 marks the beginning of fall for me and the end of our summer.  Time to look back on the blessings in my life over the last week.

~ laughter ~ I have been thankful for those moments of laughter that show up in my days.  With all the stress, anger and rage that has swirled around us in this world these last months those gifts of laughter have really been appreciated.  The belly laughter of little ones around the table when one of them did something totally unexpected.  A good belly laugh with my sister at the end of a sad, stressful conversation concerning some things she is facing.  Laughter with my hubby over something silly.  Laughter brings hope and joy into the moment and I'm so thankful for it.

~ king tut is alive and well ~ Well, my plant King Tut is anyway.  It is not only alive but it is thriving and is massive.   Some of it's "blooms" are bigger than my head.  It makes me happy whenever I see it in the front of my house and now it's gotten so big I can actually see it peeking in the living room window from inside.

~ blue skies ~ We've had some gorgeous blue skies the last days that have bought much pleasure both to me looking and to the kids as they enjoy the sunshine outdoors.  We've had another heat wave the last weeks and this week though the days have been hot the nights are finally starting to cool right off.

~ produce gift ~ I was given a gift of a big bag of just picked yellow wax beans by one of my dayhome parents.  I grew up eating yellow wax beans so love them.  I promptly made a pot of a Hungarian dish my mom used to make every summer.  I don't even know how to translate it: but it's delicious and creamy, not a soup and not a stew.  I'll post a recipe later this week. It's so easy.

~ to do lists getting accomplished ~ I've had so many to do lists lately and I'm finally starting to see the items getting crossed off.

What have been the blessings in your week?

Hi Susanne! I love this post because I agree with you on all of your favorites! All lovely things. I grew up with yellow wax beans too and they are a favorite of mine. That King Tut plant is really cool. I have never seen one around here. Blue skies, belly laughs and getting things done - all make a week great. Thanks for always hosting our Friday Faves. It is something I look forward to every week! Have a great weekend!

I love laughIng with my family and with my precious students, there's just something about the way a 4 yr old laughs in wonder!!

We LOVE wax beans here in our home and i make a three bean salad often, using them with fresh green beans and garbanzo beans. It's so yummy!! Yours looks like a soup.

Yay for sunshine, blue skies and a great summer. The new school year for me begins Sept 9 but I'm still in summer mode and I'm ok with that!! Although the evenings are getting darker and cooler earlier here in NY. That part i don't like as much.

Happy weekend!!

Laughter truly is good for the soul. I remember at my mom's viewing, they had opened the doors for the family to come earlier than everyone else. We were all sad and sniffly. My aunt said something that set us all off laughing--I don't think she was trying to be funny, but it hit us that way. And it fortified us for greeting the folks who were coming.

I don't think I have heard of a King Tut plant before. Nice that it is growing so well!

We're in for thunderstorms this weekend and will look forward to those blue skies afterward.

It's so lovely to get produce from those who garden. And yay for crossed-off to-do lists!

You had asked on last week's FFF whether I used a recipe for the banana pudding I mentioned. No--I just line a casserole dish with vanilla wafers, add some sliced bananas, mix up the box of instant banana pudding and milk and pour over it, and top with whipped cream.

Laughter feels good any time, but especially these days. Love that fave.

Blue skies was one of mine this week, too. When the sky gets that deep blue hue, it tells me Fall is on the way.

I've never had yellow wax beans -- except may be in three bean salad -- and what kind of plant is King Tut?

What a fun looking plant is your King Tut! I think my cats would enjoy it a bit too much. And your nasturtiums look perfect there.

Looking forward to your not-soup-not-stew recipe!
