Friday's Fave Five #598

Hello everyone!  It's Friday's Fave Five at the blog.  And first off I'd like to apologize for not getting around and reading your posts last week.  My daughter and her husband were here for the weekend and we haven't seen them since Christmas so I was off line the whole weekend.  And it's been a crazy work week that's left me really tired in the evenings so here it is Thursday night and I didn't get around to reading and commenting.  But today is another day, another day to pause and recognize, appreciate and be thankful for what God has blessed us with.  Please join us.  The guidelines are linked in the sidebar if you are new.

~ visit from our oldest daughter and hubby ~ as mentioned above our oldest daughter and her husband were here for the weekend.  They'd been camping with her siblings and they swung by on the tail end of their holiday week to see us.  We really appreciated them doing this.  It's seems like it had been forever.  They were supposed to come at Easter, but COVID happened.  And our usual visit to their home didn't happen this summer as Dave and I are just not ready to start using hotels again yet and their place is too tiny to put us up.  So we were very happy to have them come home even if just for the weekend.

~ a visit to a favorite place ~ even though they'd just been camping for the week in the mountains they jumped on the chance to go to a family favorite national park with us on a day trip.  So Saturday we jumped in the car and took off for Waterton.  It was an absolutely gorgeous, hot day.  We stopped at a little burger drive in on the way there.  She loves finding little hole in the wall types of places so she was thrilled with this.   Then we hiked to Bertha Falls, it's a 5.8 km (3.6 miles) hike round trip that took us about 2 1/2 - 3 hours (depending on how many times one stops to take pictures of the incredible scenery and how long you pause to admire the waterfall and soak your feet in creek that runs off of it).  It's one of my favorite hikes.  A moderate hike with continuous gorgeous scenery and a refreshing reward at the end.  One can keep going up to Bertha Lake which is about double the distance but I've never gone that far.  We've got masks in some of the pics because in most parts of the trail you cannot social distance at all when passing and the trail was quite busy at times so we just pulled them up when coming into contact with people who had to pass us shoulder to shoulder.

~ massive nachos ~ One of our tradition meals that we have with the kids when we get together is nachos.  Well when we got back to town from our hike I had to use the washroom but the public washrooms by the lake were closed.  So I went into the Thirsty Bear Kitchen & Bar next to it to ask where in town there were washrooms.  They said I could use theirs which was really nice considering I was not there to eat, but on the way to them I passed a table that had a plate of awesome looking nachos.  So I had to put the bug in hubby's ear and he got a carry out order and when we opened the box we couldn't believe the size.  We had to laugh and take pictures.  The thing was massive!  Three layers with tons of toppings on each layer!  Four of us barely dented the thing and I'd have to say they were some of the best we've had. We took the leftovers home and it gave both of us about 2 more servings each.  It was fun that we were able to continue the tradition of finding and sharing some good nachos even in a little mountain village.

~ good hiking shoes ~ while I don't do anywhere the amount or level of hiking that our fellow FFF'r Faith does, she has done some posts in the past about the importance of hiking shoes.  So I snagged a pair at Marshal's when I saw them knowing they were double the price in other stores.  What a difference.  My feet were not hot or sore at all even though it was a really hot day and the tread made my steps more sure.  Glad I followed her advice and invested in a pair!

~ easy going Sunday ~ Sunday was just a wonderful day of relaxing.  A nice ham lunch with the kids before they left, then some reading and laundry.  It was very laid back.  Just what I needed.

What were your favorite blessings you enjoyed this week and are grateful for?

So nice to have that visit with your daughter and s-i-l! We had the same situation with our son--he usually comes in April, but had to cancel that one. He's here now! (Playing a board game with his brother at the moment.)

Wow, I have never seen such a huge serving of nachos! They look so good!

Glad you snagged a good deal on hiking boots. What gorgeous scenery.

Your time with family sounds just wonderful. Being with my kids now that they're young adults is like being with good friends. Those nachos are enormous! After a day in the outdoors, they must've tasted extra delicious.

Oh, the nachos. Those look amazing. I might have to make a batch very very soon.
