Book Lover's Day...Happy Day to me! Seems like everyday is a celebration of something or other. Like yesterday was Caramel Apple Day and just in case you're one who likes to throw parties for whatever reason this week's list includes Deviled Egg Day (tomorrow), Jelly Fish Day or Men Make Dinner Day on Thursday (I'll take that second option, thank you), Friday would be Love your Lawyer Day or Fountain Pen Day (and if you don't like those two options it is also Use Your Common Sense Day!) Some make total sense and should be celebrated and others you have to wonder if someone got drunk and had the idea of "Hey, let's post this of social media and see how many likes we can get and make a day of it!". But all that to say, I kinda like Book Lover's Day. Being a full fledged book lover, I'm all about celebrating those of my kind. I really don't know what I would do without books in my life. They've entertained me, taught me, shocked me, made me laugh and cry, inspired me, lifted me, made me empathize and sympathize and motivated me. And in the case of the greatest book ever written, pointed me to the One who loved me first and saved me, thereby changing my whole life.
If I had to write one reason and one reason only why I love books so much, it's because I am so grateful that I am able to have them in my life. It does not go by me that a lot of men, women and children are denied the opportunity to learn to read or to even hold a book in their entire lives. And that really grieves my heart. To me every day is a day to celebrate the great gift of having books in my life and thereby extending that to the book lover themselves. Nothing is as much fun as discussing a book between friends, whether in real life or on social media, whether we have the same tastes or not. So happy Book Lover's Day to all the book lovers out there.
Now, tell me, what are you reading?...just because my 300 or so For Later "shelf" at the library is not groaning enough.

Wow, that's nice to know! Though, as you said, I don't know who comes up with all these days to celebrate all kinds of things and how they make them "official." But, yeah, I can totally celebrate Book Lover's Day! If I had known ahead of time I might have commemorated with an hour or so of reading! I don't know what I would do without books. I can't understand people not liking to read - I keep thinking if they just tried it with a really good book, they'd be hooked! Right now I am reading (or listening to) Long Way Gone by Charles Martin, per your recommendation, Radical Femininity by Carolyn McCulley, and a book the title of which I have forgotten about dealing with aging parents.
I'm reading Evensong by Gail Godwin. It's a followup story to Father Melancholy's Daughter, which is probably my favorite read of the year so far. And I just ordered Louise Penny's third book in her mystery series featuring Inspector Armand Gamache. I'm late to the party, but I'm loving her books!
YAY for Book Lovers Day!! I'm currently reading Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer, (for a class at church), finishing up 12 Short Hikes in the Keene Valley (non fiction about the high peaks area of the Adirondacks) and The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach, a wonderful fiction book set during WW2.
