Friday's Fave Five #265

The first week of January has come and gone.  It has passed by quickly.  Seems like I was just typing up last week's FFF.  But here we are again with another opportunity to be thankful for the good things in our lives.  Please join me sharing our 5 favorites from the week.  If you're new here, you can take a look at the guidelines here.

Now onto my favorites from the week in no particular order:

1.  Time away from electronics.  This last week I was missing in action from all computer and tv related activities.Though really difficult and a real challenge for me it was good to step away for a few days altogether.  Instead I read a lot, worked through some of the bible study our group is doing, spent extra time in the Word, prayed some, conversed with my hubby .  I think I might do it more than once a year.  I can get very caught up in staring at my electronic screens so it's good to walk away once in awhile.  Keeps my perspective.

2.  Cranberry Mulled Cider from 2nd Cup. My youngest bought me some cider mix for my birthday and I have been enjoying every warm sip.  She hit it right on with this cinnamon-y drink for me.  I enjoy it in the evenings when I don't drink coffee because of the caffienne.  Tastes so good.  A little tart, a little spicey.  Smells delicious too!

3.  Peppermint White Hot Chocolate.  Yes, yes, I know I have 2 drinks on my list.  And both came from 2nd Cup and ultimately from my youngest.  This came in the  gift package with the mulled cider.  It was just one sampler packet but boy, it was sooo good!  They say not to drink your calories, but I just can't resist!

4.  Encouragement from the Word of God.  I love when it seems God speaks directly to me or my situation from the Bible.  There is so much encouragement to be found if we would only take some time to get into the Word.  I love when seemingly out of the blue, as I'm reading in a spontaneous spot, there is something that very directly and with perfect timing seems written just for me.  God desires to communicate with us and in His Word is where He does it most often.  It is where we get to know His character.

5.  A great Sunday service.  Everything about it was really good, from the worship service to the message to the visiting afterwards.  I can always tell when the service is really good because everyone seems to really hang around after and visit and no one wants to leave.  Sunday was one of those days.

What have been your favorite blessings this week?  Share them in a post and feel free to link up.

Two drinks? My fave drinks are Americanos and Mochas at Starbucks. Oh, and water :)

It is a good thing to back away from constant media/electronics use every once in a while. Have you read Jen Hatmaker's 'Seven' book? She spent one month on a media fast and wrote about it in one chapter of the book.

We have had weeks in the past where we've avoided all screen time. It really is a good thing to do once in a while.

I took a similar break over the holidays - it was busy and I had so much irl interaction that I just didn't have much time for screens. But I'm glad to be back especially with my blog - it means more to me than facebook which is good for a quick update.Blogs are more like diaries. Recording our memories and thoughts and images. I love to look back over it. And Friday Fave is a big part of recording especially the blessings. Thanks so much for doing it Susanne!

PS I think I need to get Cranberry Mulled Cider - it looks delicious! I didn't get enough cider over the holidays.

Love those times when God's Word speaks to us and when a church service is especially used by God, when every part works together in a way only Gd can orchestrate.

You've made good use of your non-electronic time this week. Good for you! Those drinks sound so cozy and good in these winter weeks.

#4 is definitely a fave! We need to hear from God and it's wonderful when we are quiet enough to hear.

When I think that I had to stay away from any electronics whatsoever for at least 45 years, because they just didn't exist, I don't want to miss now a single day without them, lol ! It's as if I wanted to wash the laundry without washing machine !

I have had some computer issues so I have not been posting like I would like to. Some reason my computer won't connect wirelessly to the internet...ugh.
I would have to go with the peppermint white hot chocolate! Because separately I love them both!

Sounds like a good week for you. I like what you said, "There is so much encouragement to be found if we would only take some time to get into the Word." Convicting, too, because I need to be more in the Word.

I love Sunday services such as you described. It's been awhile for me, I'm praying this Sunday is a real feeding time.

I'm new to your blog. Love the idea of listing five favorites from the week. God provides so many blessings and it is easy to forget to thank Him for them. Thanks for the reminder to consciously reflect on all that's good :) Mine for the week: 1. a new oven (my old, old one broke a few weeks ago) 2. time with my 22-year-old nephew who was with us the last ten days 3. new book ordered from CBD called The Good and Beautiful God; a few people I know are doing this in their small groups and it sure looks good 4. prayer time via Skype with my son's mother-in-law. We do this whenever we can, praying for the kids, and it is awesome 5. a find at the store to spend some of my birthday $$ on -- a mickey mouse sweater. That is super comfy and that I hope doesn't make me look like I'm trying to be 15 again ;)

Lynn: Hello Lynn and welcome. It’s nice to have you comment and leave your five favorites in the comments. Prayer time via Skype is something I’ve never thought to do but what a great idea. I have a daughter who lives a province away and that would be so good! Enjoy that new oven, book and the sweater. Mickey Mouse does tend to bring out the youngster in us, for sure

Peppermint chocolate sounds like a wonderful "medicine" for the soul. Yummm.

I love those kinds of Sundays where everything clicks. Glad you had such a Sunday. I wrote about my Sunday too.

Have a great weekend, Susanne.

I was interested in reading that you walked away from electronics for a week! I did the same thing for the month of December. It frees up a lot of time to be in the Word and to pray for the needs of others..and just enjoy being in His presence.

I also enjoyed reading about the wonderful drinks that came in a basket from your daughter. They both sound VERY yummy!
