My Ugly Mug

Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee is having an Ugly Mug contest today. Basically you need to bare your cupboard's soul and find the ugliest mug you own and show us all, no less. The picture must have you with the ugly mug to show that you really do own it. Now up for grabs is a $15 Starbucks card. And well, we all know, how I love me some Starbucks! So as a result this whole endeavor has turned me into a searching maniac. My family thinks I have definitely lost it. My mind that is, not the mug. I have not only dug through to the back of my cupboards, but down in the black hole of a storage room that I have where all things ugly go until I have the guts to get rid of them. Add to that a college student who moved away last September and cleaned me out and nary an ugly mug was to be found. All my uglies went with her as the oldest and first to move away. That's the privelage you have of being the first, I guess. You get to take all the uglies with you to your new home.

(Oops, guess I seriously missed on that picture.)

I seriously even went to the second hand store to find "ugly" but then was overcome with guilt that it actually wasn't my mug, and well, my frugal side won out and I didn't want to spend the bucks unless I knew it would win for sure. So back to the hunt at home, and this is what I finally decided on. Looks like a plain white mug.

But oh, no, upon closer inspection it is a picture mug. Of two out of three of the cutest kids on the planet. It was a Father's Day gift for their dear ole Dad years and years ago. But the picture people failed to tell us it was not dishwasher safe. So it faded into oblivion. And I haven't had the heart to throw the thing away. Just call me a sentimental fool. I mean who can throw a mug out with these two cute mugs on it:

Or this sweet message on it:

Now it pretends to decorate and tries to fool us into thinking it is still useful by holding our pens on the computer desk. Hey, I never said I was a decorating affiacondo either.
While it may not even be considered ugly, faded and sad but not ugly, please do me a favor and click over to Linda's and cast me a vote, would you? If for nothing else, but out of sympathy for it being -23* C, that's -11*F people and I really need something warm to drink. I even promise I'll share it with the daddy who actually owns this mug.

Oh brrr! Can it really be that cold? You have my sympathy for sure. I would have totally gone and found the ugly mug and called it my own. You have such integrity! :0)

Aww, what a shame it's fading away.

My hands are frozen just reading how cold it is where you are!

I think your mug is precious!
Wonderful family heirloom.
Ugly?
. . . Debatable.
Perhaps.
Okay. It's pitifully and sympathetically ugly in that it has been kept for so long.
However. . . You get no sympathy points from this voter. I live in Minnesota. Cold is cold is cold. Suck it up!

It's minus 28 with the wind chill here - and last week we had rain. I know that's not unusual for you Westerners but it's a shift for us.

I couldn't get rid of that mug either - even if it is faded. What a sweet little message.

Aww -- I couldn't throw that out, either!

I cannot imagine being that cold -- 20 degrees F was about too much for me last week!

I LOVE your mug! I couldn't part with that one either. :)

I would have done the same thing, keeping the mug because of sentimental reasons.

We woke up to single digits this morning and I thought I was cold. I'll stop complaining right now and hope you are staying warm!

I agree, you definitely need you some Starbucks!! BBBRRRR!

I can totally see why you wouldn't throw that mug out. So sweet!

We've been battling the cold too. I sure wish it was Spring already!

Well I wouldn't throw it out either LOL

I'm sorry it's so cold, we're at 70 degrees here.

You are cracking me up playing the "cold weather card." Ha. Ok, so maybe you'll get enough votes to venture out to Starbucks and imbibe on some life and limb saving liquid!

That's a sentimental cup. How can you think it is ugly? lol
I have not participated in this contest. I don't think we have a Star bucks in Muskegon. I have enjoyed looking at each entry but am not quite done yet. Glad you have participated.

Even faded, that is a precious mug....

Goodness, Susanne. That first photo looks a lot like the photo Cameron took of me last Friday. Except your neck skin isn't as loose as mine. LOL

OK, that's not an ugly mug. It's precious. What a shame the photos and the inscription faded, but you can still see them so that's what matters.

I wanted to enter Linda's contest but I swear, and I know you'll believe this, I have no ugly mugs. As a matter the only mugs I have are the ones that are part of my Pfaltzgraff dishes. I have one other mug only - a very special mug Mandy bought me at Disney World. But it's got Mickey Mouse on it and even I am not brave enough to call Mickey Mouse ugly.

Great try. But that's not an ugly mug. :-) Because of where it came from, it's beautiful.

Great re~purposing of what is a priceless heirloom. =)

Good grief, that's cold. While I feel for you, your mug is too precious to be considered ugly. But I do admire your frugality...

I'm sorry it's so cold there. I thought it was cold here till I read your post! It's only been around 20 degrees here, but I sure get chilled.

I will go and see if I can figure out how to vote for your mug.

Sorry Susanne, but there is no way I think you have a chance with that sweet mug ...even faded pictures are just too cute.
But brrr...I'm already chilly tonight so reading your temperature certainly didn't help! ;)
