A Blogging Meme

Katrina from Callipider Days has tagged me with a blogging meme originating from Seedlings in Stone. And may I say, it's a tough one. I had to really think about this one. Here goes:

1. Write about 5 specific ways blogging has affected you, either positively or negatively.
2. link back to the person who tagged you
3. link back to this parent post (I'm not so much interested in generating links, but rather in tracking the meme so I can perhaps do a summary post later on that looks at patterns and interesting discoveries.)
4. tag a few friends or five, or none at all
5. post these rules— or just have fun breaking them

1. Blogging opened up a whole new world to me. Being a mom who also has a dayhome I was very much in a very limited little world. Blogging has allowed me to connect with other moms and ladies without having to leave the house.

2. I have been encouraged, exhorted, rebuked, taught and challenged to be a better mom, wife and child of God. Different people with different personalities and different walks of life have all taught me something as they have given voice to their own lives, issues and triumphs, how they looked to the Lord, methods they used. I don't think I could have ever gotten it out of teaching type books.

3. Blogging has given me some friends I never would have been able to have without this medium. And yes, there is a handful whom I consider real friends and even if we don't meet this side of heaven, they have been there for me to support me. Hopefully, I have been for them too.

4. Blogging has actually made me have to learn about computers. Whereas I had no interest before it has actually forced me to have to learn some ins and outs, some html, some navigation. A good thing for me.

5. Blogging has forced me to be able to put thoughts together in an understandable way, it's taught me a little bit about writing, it's taught me how to put a lesson together. It's allowed me a place to put down my thoughts, my feelings. It's given me a place to sort of journal the fun and the uncertainities of parenting teenagers, to get advice and input.

6. On the down side, it has taken a lot of my time. Time that has been fun, but time out of my real, live life. If you know what I mean. I have had to, over the 2 years, learn how to balance it, how to shut the ole laptop lid and walk away, so to speak. It's very easy for me to totally let it become my addiction and to be totally absorbed in the blogging world. But I have a real life, with "real" people that need my love and attention and if I'm not living my life here, then what is there to blog about?

Now I'm supposed to tag 5 people with it. The part that I find the hardest. So as Katrina put it "for better or worse":

Tammy at Lattes and Lollipops
Jennifer at Snapshot
Ellen B. from The Happy Wonderer
IslandSparrow from A Sparrow's Home
and
Laura at I'm An Organizing Junkie

If you want to "grab" it and do it, go for it. I'd love to read your answers.

Good job! I have to work on that balance thing at times. I'm glad I've gotten to "meet" you! I appreciate that you share your heart for Jesus, a little about your life, cooking and books etc.!

I've experienced much of the same -- both the benefits and the struggle with balance.

I'm so glad for your spot in the blogosphere!

I think my answers would have been a lot like yours... which is one of the reasons that I love reading you so much! We'd be twins if it weren't for the whole "different families" or age difference thing. :)

I loved your answers, Susanne. I think mine would be almost exactly the same. What an interesting meme and I have to say, the word "tag" had completely escaped my mind for so long I honestly can't remember when I last thought of it.

Boy, have I been buried in my sewing or what! LOL

Hey you, great meme! I sure wish I could learn to close the laptop more often, I'm working on it, but it's definitely a problem :(

Thanks for playing along and doing the meme, Susanne. I really liked your answers and agree with them. The whole balance thing is a struggle, but a good one in that we learn from it.

You gave some very thoughtful answers, and I agree with them. Blogging has done these things for me as well.

The biggest challenge for me, by far, is stepping away from the computer because there are so many interesting women out there.

Good meme, Susanne.

I already did this one, but I might not have gotten it up when you first tagged me.

It was fun to think about these things.
