This moving one's child away from one's self is proving to be a very hard thing for me.
Is there no universal law that says, "Thou shalt not move more than 2 hours away from the one who carried you for 9 months and then went through birthing you into this world, the one who raised you and clothed you and spent mega bucks on your school basbetball career, who followed you hither and yon to practices and games, the one who's cooked and cleaned for you and washed those smelly basketball clothes for years for you? The one who read you "Bears in Pairs" until her eyes crossed, who monitored your computer time, who ran to the drugstore after one was already in their jammies because you developed a fever, who wrung their hands while you were getting tubes in your ears? The one who cried because she felt so blessed to have been given the gift of such a beautiful baby, the one who danced in the living room with you? The one who cheered at all your accomplishments and cried with you in the disappointments?"
Is there no universal law like that anywhere?
Well, if there is not, then there should be!

Oh I was just remembering the day I drove our son 17 hours away from home for his first year of college. You are not alone in these emotions for sure! Praying that you will be comforted and that it will be "well with your soul" Blessings.
Yes, there should!
I totally, totally agree! There should be a law like that and I'd like to be in on it. It's not easy to take that first one to school, I cried all the way home I think. I hope y'all pack lots of fun and memories in these days!
You're right Susanne. There should be a law!
May the Comforter be near as you make that trip.
I agree, there should be!
It's hard and there will be tears, but God's grace will get you through.

You're going to make me cry...I know my day will come, and yes, there should be a law!
HUGS!

Oh. I am so thankful that Keilani is only 8. These moments won't turn out so favorable for me!! lol!! And if we could get that law passed before then...
Oh, Susanne. *sob* I'd vote for it in a heartbeat. {{{{hugs}}}}
I second that emotion. Sorry, sweet friend. You know that I understand.
There's no way around it - it's just a hard, hard thing to do. I know how you're feeling so I know you won't believe this, but it honestly does get easier to accept the distance, with time.
I was a blubbering wreck when Krissy went away to college. I cried for days and days. And there's not one thing anyone can do to make you feel better. It just takes time.
((((hugs)))))
It sounds all good when it's your children, but what happens when the in-laws (down the road) aren't as nice and don't get along well with others... SIGH...
gratefully the trials we go through only strengthen us!
and PTL for the internet, phone, texting and digital cameras!
As a mother who had to leave her first born in the scary city of Chicago ...I say Amen to everything you said!
I think a lot of mommies will agree with you, this one included.
My daughter in laws youngest is going away to college this fall. Her other two are grown and gone so she will be experiencing the empty nest too.
She did get two Saint Bernards so at least she won't be all alone.
I hope things work out for you and you are able to adjust quicky.
I'm with you...there should most definitely be a law!!! Prayers for you during this tough time.
my thoughts and prayers are with you

It is an amazing part of our life journey. We know these days are coming as we raise them, but is is amazing the level of grief we go through as we let them go.
God has been my strength and comforter in the empty nest. Your heart is understood by those of us who have gone through it and more intimately by God. Just keep running to Him, turn quickly when moments come.
I'm not there yet, with Olyvia being only 2 years old. But I can imagine what it must feel like and therefore, I agree that there oughta be a law.
yes, I believe it is written on every mother's heart.
Oh please make this a law, so when my children are ready to leave the nest, they will stay close. Let's write out legislators!! :)
That post just speaks to every mother's heart. I bet it's hard.....thanks goodness for technology these days, where you can still stay connected. I remember calling my mom once a week from the pay phone in the lobby of my college dorm. We would go a whole week with out talking!!
:)
Can I just say..."Amen"!
Praying that your transition and hers is a smooth as it can be!
Oh, this must be so hard! I am ALL for passing that law!
I hope she has an easy move and a smooth transition - and I hope things get easier for you!
WOW! I am on the brink of being there. Everyday brings me closer and closer.
Just think how excited God will be when we reach heaven! His heart has been longing for us since the beginning of time. Love is an amazing thing. We can only feel this kind of pain when we love so deeply. Praise God for allowing us this glimpse of His amazing love.
Blessings as you make this huge transition!
Susanne,
I think there should be such a law too.
