All I Went For Is a Blanket....Honest!

There is rebellion in my house this summer. And it's not the teenagers. My linen closet has decided to stage an all out mutiny. The lovely sage green towels have decided that fading is on their agenda and have turned themselves a decidely less lovely yellower shade of green. The duvet covers are no longer on speaking terms with the summer blanket as evidenced by the blanket trying to escape the cover by each morning. And one of the duvet covers is showing it's displeasure by popping it's snaps. To which the blanket retaliated by unraveling it's satin trim. Not a pretty sight. The sheets? Well, it's hard to even discuss those but let's just say they're so steamed they're literally coming apart at the seams.

So this weekend I went shopping with my mom. Because I thought to at least get a new coverlet, also known as a summer blanket. I'd seen some nice looking, suitable ones on clearance at Zeller's. And they were 30% off the last ticketed price. Good enough for me. But alas, the story of my life, they were already snapped up by much wiser shoppers than I who bought them as soon as they laid eyes on them instead of humming and hawwing about them for a week only to find them gone when they went back. Like me. Sigh.

So I had to upgrade. Not in quality necessarily, but definitely in the price. After much deliberation about the color which is a whole other post about my indecisiveness, I found a really nice coverlet that brought out the gold in my shams and bed skirt. On sale. Not as great a deal as the one that slipped through my fingers but good enough. Into the cart it went. But now, I'm standing there staring at the matching sheets, and thinking of the ugly old sheets that need replacing at home. That won't match. So guess what else went in the buggy? Yup. A sheet set. And then another. Well, they were on sale after all, right? Might as well, get them all replaced. Right? Oh boy, this is getting a little pricey.

Back at home, new bedding installed with a flourish, with a satisfied sigh, I'm gazing at the loveliness of the new, fresh look of the bed. And then it hit me. Oh no. Come October when I put the big comforter back on the bed with the ugly old duvet cover, it will no longer match in loveliness but will scream at me with clashing scariness. You know what that means. It's back to the store to get the matching duvet cover that was also on sale. I know. I know. I originally just went to get a summer blanket. But it's on sale. And it matches. And my eyes will thank me. And I'm taking control of the rebellion. Right? Right? My bank account may be whispering that I've just spent most of my holiday spending money but I had to do it! It's the principal of the matter.

And that's when my eyes caught hold of the lovely green towels on sale. But ladies, with all the strength I could muster and with a small whimper, I backed my cart slowly away. And with a last look of longing cast back toward the towels, I skipped with my cart to pay for the duvet cover. Aren't you all proud of my self restraint? I'm nothin' if not a model of spending discipline! :vD
Voila:
Focus your eyes on the lurvely bedding and not the night stand begging to be cleared and organized. A girl can only get so much done after a marathon of shopping. And just ignore the wallpaper, pretend I've already crossed it off the to do list. Hmmm, it looks like the curtains may need some matching magic too. I'll have to go back and see if they have anything on sale. Just kidding! Sort of.

Doesn't the gold just pick up the gold in the shams just right? And it even matches my little pillow someone gave me as a gift! And aren't I trying to hard to justify all this? LOL. That little pillow is pretty special to me. It was given to me by a friend who was also a fellow child care provider and it says: "A Hundred Years from now-It will not matter how much money I made, what kind of car I drove, or the size of the house I lived in, but maybe the world will be a better place because I was important in the life of a child."

*Now if you want to see a really cute bedroom makeover that follows a theme and everything, not just a new blanket thrown on the bed, go see what my friend Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee did with her spare bedroom. She's turning all Martha-y on me being a SAHM this summer. You can read about her other adventures into this realm while you are there. But just make sure you swallow any beverages you may be drinking. Unless of course you need an excuse to have to wash your monitor or keyboards.

I think your bed coverings look lovely! Way to go getting them on sale. I usually wait until company is coming and then have to buy at full price.

Very very pretty bed. I like it a lot.

I hate an unruly linen closet. Nothing worse.

Ah yes Susanne, it is amazing how one thing just leads to another. I think you made lovely choices; it looks great.
There must be one of those funny "laws" out there that states all linens must fall apart at the same time. I have to laugh at myself though, because I think somehow that I just bought them not to long ago when in reality it has been years and years.
Enjoy your new stuff!!

Nicely done. Shopping is always like that.

You are too funny! I used to laugh at my mom when she would say she was running in the store to pick up just one item and would come out with a cart full of stuff. I see that you do that also........and guess what.....I do to! It's a women/mom thing.
It looks lovely! :)
And your nightstand looks like mine. :)

Hey it looks great and I think you definitely demonstrated restraint. I couldn't have done it you know because the voices they wouldn't stop until I surrendered. They get me every time, I have no capacity to block them. It's a curse.

This was such a cute post...I've been there before- only getting one thing, just one thing...lol

But I love the coverlets...we so need a new one, too! :D

It looks great! It's funny how one thing leads to another like that. I have done that, too, when there is a great sale -- thought about it too long only to have it gone when I went back to get it.

I wish you could have gotten the towels, too! Maybe hubby will read your post and say, "Go ahead, honey." We can dream, can't we? :-)

Love that pillow.

It looks fantastic! Not the receipt, the dollar signs, or the checkbook ledger... but the bed!!! At least they were all on sale.

When I make purchases such as these I calculate up how much I saved and try to soothe myself with those numbers instead of what it cost.

Just a thought..??? :-)

How pretty! I too find it HARD to pass sales up when we need something...even if the budget doesn't have much room for it.

Very creative way to right about bedding and towels:)

Your first paragraph was writing genius, my friend!

You and Linda are inspiring me to do something different for our bed when we move!

Girlfriend, you are too kind. And this ensemble, which you must pronounced, "En-SOHM" is just beautiful! I absolutely love it. It looks like it all came together to me, but the cool thing is, no one else in the world has just this combination since you purchased it the way you did. You Martha-woman, you.

It looks lovely! I struggle with a bit of indecisiveness myself. I even frustrate myself at times.

I think your gold coverlet is so pretty, it all looks great! You'll be glad later you got all of what you bought. And there can NOT be another person around as indecisive as me! I see it, don't get it, then go back and it's gone...hubby has always told me, if you see something get it then. I've tried to learn that lesson; it can always go back I suppose.
Great job! I've got some rooms that need redoing too!

Love the gold color! I miss yellow so much in my home. I had the walls that color in the kitchen of the house we lived in three houses ago. Ughh!

Just beautiful Susanne!

I have been in the market for a coverlet all summer. Indecisiveness coupled with cheapness is a BAD combination. I MUST go shopping with a less tight helper or I will be heading into winter with nothing on my bed!!

As always, you inspire...
