Another One Hits the Deck

Well, it's been an interesting week shall we say. I don't know what's happening with things hitting the deck around here. Monday was the lasagna, yesterday was the dish soap. And oh, no, not dish soap in the plastic bottle, but dish soap in my pretty ceramic bottle that matches the colors of my kitchen and I probably can't buy anymore, bottle. The bottle I had just filled to the top. Ya, that's the one. So Monday I was using the spatula to scrap lasagna off the floor, Thursday was using the spatula to scrap a whole bottles worth of dish soap off the floor. That was fun. Thick and gummy, it was all over the top of the cupboard, dripping off the edge and down the dishwasher and forming a huge, and I mean huge, puddle on the floor.

I don't know about anyone else, but after throwing away $14 in lasagna only three days before, and staring at my lovely $15 dollar soap pump now lying in two pieces, the cheap frugal side of me rose up and I couldn't bring myself to put all that soap down the drain. I had to salvage something out of all this carnage. So what did I do? I grabbed my handy, dandy funnel and spatulaed (is that even a word?) as much as I could back into the original plastic bottle. I know, I know. Dish soap is relatively cheap. It couldn't have been more than $3. But I just couldn't do it. Sick, eh?

So the rest that I couldn't spatula, got wiped and rinsed into a sink of hot water. Which then became my motivation for clearing out my small appliance cupboard and wiping it out, and then wiping down all the fronts of the cupboards.

It all looks so nice and clean now, so I feel a bit better. My loving clean side thanks my cheap frugal side for the nudge into the spring cleaning mode. I might even organize some of the cupboards as it's Kitchen organization this month over at I'm An Organizing Junkie. Today the small appliance cupboard & cupboard fronts, tomorrow the world. Or something like that.

I just want to add that these friends made me feel a whole lot better this week with these lovely gifts and I just want to say a big thank you to them.

From Faith at Gold in the Clouds came this nice award. Thank you so much Faith. I've very blessed to have met you through this blogging world and knowing you think enough of my ramblings to present this to me means an awful lot.

And "Forever Friends" came from Barbara H. over at Stray Thoughts. Thank you Barbara. It means a lot, especially this week. I value your bloggy friendship very much!

I'll pass both of these awards over to Julie at A Joyful Life
and Katherine at Raising Five.

And btw, Julie has written a beautiful, touching story of one soldier here. Please stop by and leave an encouraging word in her comments for this young man.

Oh Susanne, you just haven't had much luck this week at all have you? Saying a prayer that things start running more smoothly for you, I think you won't want to see a spatula for a while after these incidents LOL

I would have done the same thing with the soap, it's not a matter of it being cheap it's a matter of using what you can still salvage, right?

Hugs,
Sandra

Wow what a week you are having! Let's hope this weekend is relatively uneventful for you...well except of course for all the fun you'll be having organizing your kitchen cupboards :)

Oh dear - another spill. I'm sorry you broke your pretty soap bottle.I hope your clean cupboards are a small consolation.

One of our boys was a habitual spiller when he was little. Almost every meal. It got to the point where we would barely pause in the conversation whenever he spilled something. He'd get up without a word, get the paper towel and mop up. He turned into the best cleaner of the bunch. Lots of practice!

Hi Susanne,
I've been out all day and am just catching up on my blog reading. I can't say as I blame you for spatuling up all that dish detergent. Hey, you wound up with a really clean kitchen out of it, right? Hee hee

And THANK YOU for the lovely awards. You are so sweet and I appreciate not only your savvy book recommendations, but your bloggy friendship as well!

Have a wonderful weekend...a spill-free one, that is! LOL

Oh, that's too bad about the pretty ceramic bottle!! What a week! I'm glad you were able to salvage some of it. Hope things get better. :-)

I think I would have cried, Susanne. And I would have salvaged the dish soap too.

Congratulations on the awards. They're both very well deserved.

I hope that's the last thing that hits the deck on you! I'd hate to lose my soap bottle too, and so would have salvaged the soap as well! I have that same frugal/cheap side to me too.

Some days are just like that. Remember it is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. I tell my grandchildren this all the time. I have to say it to myself all the time too. Thanks for sharing your blog.

Oh dear! These things always seem to go in twos! But look how it turned into a blessing, you got inspired to clean extra, now you have a shiny appliance cupboard! :)

Congratulations on your blog awards, you deserved them...especially after your recent disasters! :)

Hugs.

Poor you! Those sound like awfully painful drops! And the lasagna was, ironically, much easier to clean up than the soap, true?
