Paperwork, and it ain't wrapping paper

And it's started. It's coming in by the day, and it's overflowing my little baking cart, where it seems to be gravitating, unread. It's just a good thing right now that I'm not like Beck who's children get homemade baked goodness on a regular basis. My baking cart is more decoration. But I digress.

This stuff is overwhelming and mind boggling and it's making my brain hurt. If you've got a student who has reached the goal of grade 12, you'll know I'm talking about all the college/university stuff. And no, it's not just deciding which college your child wants to apply to but it's the scholorship information that's burying me. My goodness. Every college/university has their own scholorship requirement with some applications due by December 15th. That's of this year! What are they thinking? That's right before Christmas. Don't they know we're just a tad busy at this time of year? Do they not do Christmas? There is baking to be done, presents to buy. Presents to wrap. Cards to write. Cleaning to do. Wreaths to be hung. Sigh.

So, sometime this month, Kay (17) and I have a lot of reading to do. There is sessions to attend. We've got a lot of asking to do. She's got some big decisions to make. I so remember this time of year. And all of a sudden, I'm in proxy feeling the pressure that is on grade 12 students. The social issues of high school, the performance issues, the job issues and then to add to it all the huge decision of having to make up your mind what you might literally, have to do the rest of your life. It's enough to make you feel like you can't breathe. My heart goes out to them. As I mentioned the other day, grade 12 for me was "the year I lost my head". But Kay is pretty grounded, praise God. She's got a good head on her shoulders. But like I was, she's just a little unsure of what she wants to take. She got general ideas but nothing specific. And she wants to start with a year of bible college. So we need to find out if scholorships can be held off a year. It just makes this mama's brain totally hurt.

So I might be in and out of here not quite so consistently for the next couple weeks. You might hear about all my paperwork woes. Or not. It might go easier than I assume. I'm just not sure what will be happening over the next few weeks. But don't stop talking to me. I'll be very glad of some diversion. I'll be looking to hear all about your Thanksgiving, the likes of which is making my mouth water as I read your menus and recipes. Although we have already had our Thanksgiving last month, I'm game for a turkey dinner anytime. So I'm having one vicariously through all your Thanksgiving dinner posts.

But, please, if you don't hear from me in like a long time, send out a search party. Tell them to check first under the huge piles of papers.

I do not envy you at all. That is crazy that it has to be done right before Christmas. Sounds like you have a great daughter, and you both will figure it all out. I'm just thankful I have a long way to go before these decisions. Oh, wait, my daughter is in eighth grade, that means in only 4 years, I'll be where you are. Ughhhhh!

Hee Hee! I love the picture:) I tend to look like that under all the "art" projects my girls make and bring home:)

Love that picture! Hope all goes well for you both. There definitely is a lot of pressure that time of life. But let her know she doesn't have to feel "locked in" to a major. It's good to know the general direction, but both my older guys changed majors with a minimum of trouble and they're still graduating on time.

Oh my goodness yes! I do remember all that stuff that started filling our mail box! Enjoy all the choices to be made...

This is SOOOOOOOO great!

By the time you get all finished with hers, Kati will be about ready for you to start - I'll just mail her, and the paperwork to YOUR house.

Check that one off the list.

Thanks, friend.

Air kiss. Love you.

Love the picture but my word I can't imagine all you have to do in preparation for school. Holy smokes, I'm feeling for you. Wish I could help. Put it all in a pretty container...it's amazing how much better you'll feel :)

Amanda is a junior, we already get college stuff daily in the mail. It's crazy. I imagine next year will be so crazy for us too!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh sister, I feel your pain. I don't really think it will be as bad as it appears to be. And when the scholarships come in, you will say it's all worth it. Just make sure your child does her share of the work. Ours were a tad bit ... dare I say it? Lazy. Hang in there.

Oh I will be praying for you! Is this what I get to do in a couple of years? Courtney is a freshman right now....oh my...it goes by so fast doesn't it? And there are so many choices....I just pray that your daughter and you will have the wisdom of God....and remember Jeremiah 29: 11
Blessings to you!
Faith

I dread it already. There are a couple of things that I need to be filling out for my oldest, but I just can't seem to make myself sit down and do it. I have enough day to day paperwork already, as I'm sure you do, too.

Having to do this at Christmas time would just be terribly awful, so I pray that it will go supernaturally smoothly and quickly for you. God bless you, Susanne.

I so know your pain and if you look real hard you'll find me under that same pile of paper. One of the colleges we're looking into offers a good scholarship that Rob qualifies for but we found out last week that he has to be ADMITTED by December 1st. Unbelievable. Just think how much we're going to learn about the process though. Hope everything goes smooth for you.

Boy, do I remember those days, Susanne. We didn't see the top of our five foot long and three foot wide dining room table for a year.

I never would have dreamed so much paperwork is involved in college applications, scholarship applications and I can't even remember what all else.

I also understand about being missing in action for chunks of time right now. I thought I'd better resurface before people started holding candlelit services for me or something.

I'm so busy, and there's so much stuff going on in our family right now, I can't think straight.

So yeah, I understand.

ACK. Hope you manage to come up for air in time to enjoy the holidays! (Do you Canadian types do a Thanksgiving celebration as well??)

I remember this well with my 4 and remember thinking the same thing about the time it was due! Crazy...and it is so hard for them to think they're making a decision for something they might want to do for the rest of their life. I told mine they could always change majors later if needed or go back after they graduate and do something else. I hope y'all get through it all!

Oh, that last picture is TOO funny!
I can still remember vividly the panic I felt in Grade 13 (remember grade 13?). Your girl is lucky to have you helping her.
