A couple weeks ago, my oldest girl ran out of her very favorite toothpaste. When I went to get a new tube at the Wally Mart, they did not have it anymore. Darn. Now what to do? As I sat there staring at the myriads of brands and flavors totally stumped at which to get her next, a pretty box jumped out at me. Do ya know they pay big bucks for designers to make purty packaging so that you will buy the product for that reason? So I grabbed the pretty pack, read mint on the package and threw it in my cart. Had I read it more thoroughly and realized the name was "Kiss Me Mint", I might have changed my mind. Do I really want to buy my 17 year old a toothpaste with that name? Maybe I should have looked for one named "Back off Buster Mint" or "Your invading my space Mint". But I digress.
Anyhow, I bring home the new toothpaste and give it to her. Her comment: "Umm, purple toothpaste?" Who knew it was purple? I just like the packaging. After using it a week, I ask her, "How're you liking the toothpaste?" Her answer: "I have no respect for purple toothpaste". Okey Dokey, then.

I grew up on Crest, but now we are Colgate folks for some reason. I never look beyond what is on sale. I will have to check out the "designer" brands the next time in the toothpaste aisle.
Back Off Buster Mint. LOL
The fact that there is seriously an entire aisle devoted to toothpaste at the grocery store is mind boggling. I'll be looking for that purple toothpaste. Who knew?
My little Annie had to have the My Little Pony toothpaste, so I haven't progressed to your situation yet. She said, "It's not so spicy, like your's." I didn't know regular old Colgate had touch of jalepeno to her. Kids...
Why is it when we get used to one particular brand/flavor they quit carrying it in the store? It's driving me crazy!
Not sure I could do the purple toothpaste thing but I do like something minty.
Too funny about the back off buster mint!
Purple toothpaste?!?!? Sweet! I've gotten purple ketchup before! lol I took it to a picnic once and it was a hit! lol Have a great day!
So funny! Your daughter's got your sense of humor!
Bwah ha ha ha! And my girl would love it!
Much laughter here. You write the cutest posts.
I hereby admit that I am a real sucker for packaging. I stand there gazing at rolls of paper towels trying to decide which design I like best! Yikes!! Those people definitely have my number.
Designer Toothpaste!
My husband is partial to Tom of Maine's, which once gave me a rash all throughout my mouth (I'm allergic to cinnamon oil.).
LOL I love your and your daughters sense of humour.
Very funny - typical teenager! I dont' think I could do purple toothpast either!
Oh too funny, that just cracks me up. Although she does have a point...I don't think I could respect purple toothpaste either..lol.
Laura
I only do Crest - either original or the blue Scope one. I'm picky like a typical teenager. It wasn't too long ago that my youngest would only use bubblegum toothpaste and if I ran out, her toothbrushing went on strike. Yuck!
I think that lots of Dads would buy their teen girls the Back off Buster Mint - I like it.
This cracked me up, Susanne! Yeah...I think you're on to something with the Back Off Buster Mint. :)
Maybe it just might work if it- like, turns her teeth purple or something! heehee
My daughter would be all over purple toothpaste. But Kiss Me Mint? It would definitely have to be renamed. "Kiss My Daddy's Firearms Mint."
Love it, too funny :) Definitely get a 17 year old something like "back off buster", LOL!
Gosh, I had no idea they made purple toothpaste. I blogged about toothpaste recently... I've used Crest all my life and still use the plain ole paste. I looked the other day at trying a new one, and like you, couldn't believe the variety, packaging, flavors, features and really, overwhelming, selection of toothpaste available.
Great post!
Purple toothpaste, LOL! (I bet Barney likes it..;)
OH this is soooooooooo FUNNY!!!!! Thanks for sharing this story!!!
I'm such a toothpaste snob!! it HAS to be Colgate and it HAS to be a gel.. NO paste here!! LOL LOL
I like "Back off Buster," etc. I'd buy it! And although purple is my favorite color, I'd think twice about what it might do to the old enamel. Right now I'm using Crest White Strips to un-do the coffee damage! We have to buy really expensive toothpaste for our daughter who has canker sores like you wouldn't believe.
My 16 year old daughter would like it solely based on the color alone... she's a purple nut... Emelia who is 9 always wants the whitening toothpaste, she's very into her teeth being shiny and clean.
Funny! These teenage girls never cease to amaze huh?
..."i have no respect for purple toothpaste" - now that just cracked me up! i like her already! ;)
