...I first met my Beloved Hubby (BH for short) at a wild, booze flowing like water, party. He walked in with a couple that I knew and my first thought of him was that he was pretty darn overconfident, walking into a party where he knew no one except the people he came with and wearing a huge smile. We ended up talking in the kitchen where he was pouring way too strong drinks for everybody else. And then we took a walk outside on our own. We just seemed to click talking about all sorts of stuff. It was nice but I thought I'd never see him again.
A week later I was with a bunch from work at a local bar for dancing and was dancing with a fella from work. All of a sudden someone asked to switch partners and there he was with that Colgate smile again. After much talk and dance, I finally agreed to give him my phone number.
He called that weekend and on our first date he took me two hours out of town to a small town just over the border, that's the U.S. border folks. I was 19. If my mom knew she'da had a heart attack and my dad would have got out his "bang-bang stick". (That "stick" was a running joke in our family in the way that my dad would deal with a boy that treated us girls not right or not proper). We had a wonderful lunch and a nice drive back and then went to a show. After that we were pretty much inseperable.
We dated for 1 1/2 years without knowing the Lord. Then, by a miracle of God we were both saved at the same time and started to serve the Lord. Our whole dating life changed. Now instead of partying we were praying and instead of drinking alcohol constantly we were drinking in of His Spirit and getting our lives totally changed. What a difference. We dated another year and I was at the point where I wanted to get married. I loved him but he didn't seem interested in marriage so I was at the point where if that was not in our future I was going to move on because I was not the type to just go on dating forever or to move in together. I wanted marriage in my future. He didn't know I was feeling quite that drastic, however.
Then one day flowers arrived at the door for me. And he invited me to dinner at a really nice resteraunt. My sister said "He's up to something." I totally ignored her. When he arrived he gave me a beautiful gift of a necklace. It was a dove with a flower in it's beak and the centre of the flower was a little diamond. I thought he was being ultra romantic and generous. I thought maybe he got a raise. My sister said, "He's up to something!!". I said "nah".
We went to a beautiful dinner and right before dessert, he says to me we need to talk about getting married. Well, that sorta broke the camels back. I'd had it. I thought he was gonna tease me again about it and nothing would happen. So I started to give him what for about how not funny that was and how I didn't appreciate it anymore. Not even noticing the poor guy was pulling a ring box outa his pocket again with that Colgate smile on his face. Whaaaa? Well knock me over with a feather! Ya, I said ya! I wasn't gonna give him a chance to change his mind and run out the door.
So that's our story. Started in the ways of partying and ended up with the Lord taking our start, knitting our hearts together and making us a new ending.

Susanne, What a wonderful "love story", It is wonderful that you both were saved at the same time. I love the cute way you told how you just weren't going to have him tease anymore...when he pulled out the ring box! aaahhh, *smile*
Loved reading your story. I love how God can change our "not so great" beginnings into perfect endings. I'm happy for your salvations and your beautiful marriage.
What a beautiful story! How wonderful to see how God brought you together and then brought you to Himself! Thanks for sharing this!
What a sweet story! I love how God brings people together!
Love your story, Susanne. It's like the story of Esther, where God's name wasn't mentioned but His hand was in it all along. (I know you mentioned God; I just meant that before you met him, God was not in the spotlight, but He was still with you all along.)
A really sweet story Susanne, especially about the Lord saving you both at the same time. I love hearing how two people fall in love.
