Question and Answer Period 1

There is a question I have been pondering for a little while now. I dwell on it for awhile and then let it go. And then it will just pop up again and start burning in my brain. I have mulled this over long enough, I have clicked and searched for an answer and no one in my physical presence can get past the "Whatch you talkin' 'bout, Sue?" look on thier face. I am tearing out my hair no longer.

So I'm dropping all pride and throwing caution to the wind and asking you out there in blogland.

1) How on earth do you cross off a word in your sentence, like when you're joking and say one word and put a line thru it and then say the other word.

and

2) When choosing feeds in Bloglines, if there is more than one feed, which one does a person choose?

OK, be kind with my computer illiteracy. I just need answers to these burning questions.

Absolutely - asking for a lot of us. I subscribe, see that there are umpteen choices and no clue which to go to. The cross-off thing, Sarah knows, I don't and we havent had time for a normal conversation to discuss it. More, how is Addison, how are the boys, how are you....I'll keep checking back to see if you get an answer.

Well, I'm not the most computer literate person, but I think I know the answers to these questions, so I'm feeling like a total nerd right now (in a good way!).

1. For strikethrough:

<*strike>cross out these words<*/strike>

Except take out the two *

2. In Bloglines, under the "title" for each feed option is a date - I think that's the most recent date that feed was updated. So I pick the most recent one - preferably one of them has today's or yesterday's date. Also, next to the dates it says (0 subscribers) or however many subscribers there are - so if one of them has a bunch of subscribers, you can bet that that's a valid feed. Also, sometimes (many times?) both/all feeds may be valid, so whichever you pick would be fine.

Hope that helps!

I do exactly what Katrina does when I subscribe to someone new. I go with the one that has the highest numbers. It usually seems to be the one that says atom.xl or something like that as apposed to the rss thing.

For strikethrough, Katrina's right again. But guess what? I found a simpler way.

<*s>yourtexthere<*/s> works.
(remove the asterisks)

Here's another tip. And I'm almost embarrassed it took me months of frustration to think of it. I went to Borders and bought two books.

"Blogging in a Snap" by Julie C. Meloni deals entirely with the ins and outs of blogger.

"Blogging - Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content" by Biz Stone - well he really is a genius and his book is great. He actually writes a lot of the help sites on blogger.

And...my sweet sister, Bev, (Blessed Beyond Measure) bought me a book on Amazon - "How To Do Just About Anything On A Computer" which was published by Reader's Digest. It covers all kinds of fun stuff.

I finally figured out having a couple of good books answered a lot of the questions that were making me crazy.

Hope that helps!

Susanne, your questions have already been answered sufficiently, but I just wanted to add another You're-not-the-only-one-who-has-asked-these-questions comment. I use the Blogger help page for a lot of the questions that I have. When I wanted to figure out how to do a strikethrough, I just went to Blogger Help and searched for "strikethrough". Or maybe I googled it. One way or the other, I found the info on the web, somewhere.

And I usually pick the Bloglines feed with the most subscribers. I'm a lemming, I admit it.

I just use
<*s> and <*/s>

(again, take out the little asterik thingys.)

I usually go with the one that more people have subscribed to. Majority rule. So far it hasn't hurt. :-)

Hey Susanne. I have another helpful idea. When all the little ins and outs of blogger are making you crazy, eat a huge slice of the coconut cake my sister, Bev at Blessed Beyond Measure, posted a recipe for. I'll bet you didn't know she titled that post, "For Susanne - Coconut Cake."

Want to see it? go here

bev: so glad to know I'm not the only one.

katrina: thanks so much. You've helped me out again.

melanie: ya I thought that guy was a pretty good representation for how I sometimes feel with computer stuff! Hee!

barb: I checking out those books as we speak!

sarah: I would have done that but wouldn't have known it was called a strikethrough. That's how computer illiterate I am.

momrn2, mrs. blythe, mugwumpmom: anytime. What's loosing a little pride. I could probably stand to go for more.

addie: thanks. I'll go with majority rule too!

lauren: thanks for letting me know! I'm quite missing you here and at your place too! I check there daily. No I'm not stalking you, silly girl, just checking in on you!

curious servant: this is support and comarderie is what got me blogging in the first place.

crygibb: hang on tight, 'cause you're gonna learn fast. My brain has not been this stretched since college.

barb: Oh my goodness! I had no idea she had that up! I'm over there NOW!! Gee if I eat that cake everytime blogger makes me crazy I better be making a whole bunch and freezing it to make sure I have it on hand at all times.

I'll just say hello, I stopped by and I was of no help for two reasons 1) I didn't know how to strikethrough and 2) I just picked the feed with the most...hmmmm.....huge trend going on there...

I'm glad you asked these questions. I had thought about it but never got around to doing it. I've been out of the swing of things lately. Thanks, Susanne, for the post & comments. Wonderful!

I preview the feed and pick the one that prints the entire entry, not just part of it, if that's an option.
