This WFMW just dawned on me yesterday. After years of being frustrated with this particular thing such a simple solution for some reason evaded me. Until yesterday. The day of discovery! Because of budget and time restrictions I really try not to run to the store between shopping trips. Therefore each shopping trip I always purchase a few dozen assorted kinds of buns for different dinners thru that period of time, such as dinner buns, hamburger buns, hot dog buns, etc. Then when I got home I would try to get out as much air as possible out of the bags before I froze them. But invariably I would always end up with a few of the buns with soggy parts from the moisture build up in thawing them. And of course they would end up in the garbage 'cause who wants to eat those!?
Then yesterday it dawned on me. I have a wire fruit basket that sits on my counter similar to this:
So I put the buns in there. And voila! In about 20 minutes they were thawed and very fresh tasting and with not one soggy spot! Something so simple sitting right on my counter works for me! And if this is something that just everybody in blogdom already figured out, well, I still had something to post for this Wednesday, and hey, that also works for me! :)

Great tip! My friend's husband is in the bakery business. She told me that if you are thawing bread that is still in the plastic (like a loaf, hot dog buns, etc.)place the bread on the counter, wrap a kitchen towel completely around it, then allow it to thaw. Something about the towel keeps it fresh! Works for me everytime.
I had never thought of that! Thanks for the tip!!
Great idea! I never ever would have thought of that one! I hate the soggy buns too!
Brilliant!! Now I have to get a wire basket...
I have that exact same basket! Very cool. Might work for me, too.
I love those *ping* lightbulb moments. Unfortunately my freezer is waaaaaay to small to store buns, but should that change (here's hopin'!) I will definitly remember this one!
Thanks, Susanne, for the support -ha-ha! I am in a better mood after a little dip in the pool. :)
Nice tip! I'm definitely going to try this one.
I posted a WFMW tip as well. Stop by and take a peek. :)
Great idea!!
Great idea! Thanks for stopping by!
Mary, mom to many
Pretty basket--and useful too! I'll be trying that idea for bread. Thanks :)
