Friday's Fave Five #854

Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  The first of September.  Summer is coming to a close on the calendar though in my mind summer is over when school starts so to me we've already moved into fall.  The time is just zipping by and that makes it just that more important for me to be intentional in making note of blessings God brings into my everyday life.  As I take notice it makes me more grateful and the more grateful I am the more I notice the blessings without the effort.  It's a wonderful cause and effect circle.  Please join in with our FFF community developing hearts of gratitude.

~ easing into fall routines ~ September always brings with it fall routines in every aspect of life.  Summer is easy going and somewhat flexible.  But September always sets routines in work, church and life.  I have 2 dayhome kids that are in kindergarten this fall.  Both happen to be attending school on the same days, and kindergarten is full days here,  so that has made my week very nice with 3 busier days when everyone here and then 2 slower days where I'll only have 4 so it gives a bit of a break.  Though with a teacher's strike very likely here in the next few weeks, that will all blow up anyway.  Oh well.  Eventually it will be the routine.

~ crockpot cooking ~ September always sees a reappearance of the crockpot in my house.  I've already made a couple of great meals in it.  I find it so easy and convenient and economical as I can take less expensive cuts of meat and it makes them so tasty and tender.

~ great purchase ~ I've been having some arm issues and my massage person has advised me to prop my books at eye level and avoid actually holding them if at all possible.  Well all the propping with pillows and blankets just was awkward and not so practical.  But when I popped into a local bookstore, I saw this handy gizmo to hold one's books and i-pads.  It's called The BookSeat.  I hummed and hawwed and finally gave in and purchased it.  And what a handy thing it is.  Unlike blankets and pillows it's compact,  holds the pages open, actually can stand on arms of couches and is very comfortable on my lap without overheating me as do blankets and pillows.  Well worth the dollars. And bonus blessing was when I looked on Amaz*n to see if they had it and how much, just to see if I got ripped off, the local bookstore was actually 15 dollars cheaper.

~ gift of heirloom tomatoes ~ one of the dayhome families gifted me some heirloom tomatoes from their garden.  So delicious.  There is nothing like homegrown tomatoes.

~ homemade salsa ~ our church has an outreach program where they supply needy families in the community with backpacks filled with school supplies specific to their child's school's list.  A lady from church made homemade salsa with produce she grew herself, to sell and raise funds to go towards the project.  So we bought three jars because we love salsa and it was a way to support her efforts.  But we also were blessed because it was really good!  Yum!

What were your blessings this last week?

I'm loving that Summer weather is lingering here in NYS although the mornings are cooler which I also love :)
YAY for supporting the backpack program and buying the homemade salsa.
I need to get that bookseat!! I have to prop my book (i love a REAL book...i never do audio ones and I no longer use an ipad as mine is obsolete so any books on there I can't access now.....plus now I have a Macbook Pro laptop which i love love love but i don't download books to it).anyways, my chiropractor and Pt both said to use a pillow to prop my book so my neck doesn't "forward thrust" and now I have to hold my iphone up at eye level so....my time on my phone is decreasing, which is a good thing. Glad you found a good solution and I just may be copying you!

I love homegrown tomatoes!! I bought some heirloom ones from our local farm and YUMMY!!!
yes, our church begins our new semester of small groups, classes and activity groups next week. I have a full book group! (we're discussing the one I read this summer Divine disruption!) and my hiking group is going strong with 5 new members so i'm up to 55 people now. But we end in mid-December until mid-March. and I joined a class on Proverbs for Monday mornings. I love getting back to the routines of going to a class or activity group and also leading my own group.

have a relaxing weekend Susanne.

I used to think of September as the beginning of fall, because school started right after Labor Day when I was a kid. But it doesn't start feeling like fall here until near the end of September, sometimes not until October.

How nice to have a couple of lighter days in the schedule.

I love the idea of that Book Seat! I'll see if I can find one. Lately my hands cramp if I hold my ipad mini, which I use to read my books on Kindle, for too long.

It's so nice when people share their garden produce. And how kind of the family to donate homemade salsa for a good cause.

I always think of September as the beginning of the year. Everything seems so fresh. I love the book gizmo. What a great idea someone had! Homemade salsa is delicious. It's so much better than what you buy premade. I used to make it when my children were small and we had a garden.

For me, fall always begins the third weekend in September, when our town has its local festival. But, the weather has been so much cooler of late, it feels earlier this year.
The book seat is a great idea! I’ll have to see if I can find one. My hands are getting quite arthritic, getting tired more easily.
You suggested the book, When the World Fell Silent in one of your posts a few weeks back. I’m enjoying it so much!
Have a good weekend, Susanne.

I don't feel like September (normal) yet, we will have 30°C tomorrow and it's very warm today. Your book stand is very practical, it's right if you read a thick heavy book and hold it up you can get troubles in your arm. I had that with the old mechanical typewriters, after a while I got arthritis. Fortunately the electrical ones arrived.

Ugh (on the strike), but your slightly more relaxed schedule now sounds lovely.

Unlike you, we can't really relish stews and crock-pot foods until practically November (Sept/Oct are fire season). So I'm looking forward to it through you!

What a great solution for your reading comfort (and at a good price, too). Hope it helps reduce issues for your arms and shoulders.
