Friday's Fave Five #814

Happy Thanksgiving to all my blogging friends in the U.S.  I hope you had a lovely holiday yesterday!  Thanksgiving is a holiday that both U.S. and Canada observe, albiet Canada's already happened over a month ago.  But thanksgiving is not just a one day affair.  Daily Thanksgiving is a goal, a way of life and heart attitude.  It's meant to be done daily, thanking God for all the good things.  Even when life is hard, even when things don't go our way, there is still things in our lives to be grateful for.  Thanks for joining in with me week after week developing this in our own individual lives.

- dinner with Hubby's sis and brother in law ~ it is our tradition between us four to go out for supper for each of our birthdays.  It's a way we've found to stay connected as our families have grown and life is busy.  Because it was Hubby's birthday they treated us at Hubby's choice of restaurant which happens to be a favorite of all of ours.  I'm thankful we have this time together each year with them.

~ a warm home ~ with the weather getting very cold I'm so thankful for a nice warm home.  I never want to take that for granted.

~ crockpot meals ~ and with the weather getting cold, crockpot meals start to become a staple around here.  I'm thankful for this little appliance and the comfort foods that it cooks up for us.  It's so easy to just put everything in it in the morning or early afternoon and have dinner ready and waiting after a long day of work.

~ work Christmas party ~ I usually dread these things and since both Hubby and I are self-employed we haven't had to attend one in at least 10 years or more.  Well this year the agency I contract with decided they were having one for their educators only.  At first I didn't want to go but it turned out to be a fun evening and I came home with a nice raffle prize.

~ popcorn and movie ~ after running around and doing my usual Saturday chores and visiting my mom, I came home to find Hubby had made a big batch of his popcorn.  His popcorn is the absolute best.  We settled down with big bowls to watch a movie and just had a much needed restful evening at home.

What have been your favorite blessings this week?

Susanne! I had a fun, loud, chaotic Thanksgiving here in Plymouth where it all began....hahha....the weather was lousy with rain but thankfully we weren't back home because we saw on the news that our area had a couple of inches of the first snow for the season and some parts like where I hiked had 8-12 of the stuff!!! I'm glad today here on the coast is sunny and dry.
I also use my slowcooker/crock pot a lot in the later autumn months and it goes all the way into Winter and early Spring. I especially loved it when i was working but even now with the volunteer work, sometimes I don't return from a client until 5 pm so it's nice to have the ready made meal.
Happy Birthday to your guy! That's a fun tradition to have with extended family.
YAY for a restful evening at home. Happy weekend

I love your birthday tradition with your in-laws. I'm grateful or a warm home, too, as we're having frosty temperatures this week. Crockpot meals are so comforting. We're not fond of work Christmas parties either. Jim's work parties were usually employee-only, so I didn't have to go. The popcorn and movie night sounds lovely after a busy week.

I like your birthday tradition. What a nice idea!

I've been getting my crock pot out more often now and I have a nice turkey breast carcass to stew for turkey noodle soup!

I've never minded work Christmas parties but then they've not had a 'corporate' feel. They were hospital parties or smaller ones in a doctor's office. Often it was a pop in and pop out kind of affair. I'm glad you ended up liking the one you attended.

Popcorn and a movie is a great way to spend a cold evening. I've gone back to popping my own popcorn the "old fashioned" way instead of microwave. I seem to enjoy it more.

I had forgotten that you Canadians celebrate your Thanksgiving Day earlier. I wonder what the story is behind yours?
Have a blessed weekend.

Our Thanksgiving was busy and full of guest. We loved it!
Popcorn! Now I'm craving some.
I love your way to celebrate the birthdays with your sil and bil. It makes it easier to plan it, knowing you always do that tradition.
Have a good weekend. Stay cozy and warm. It's cold here too.

What a terrific tradition to stay connected with family! I like the sound of that popcorn and movie night.

Like you, I'm not fond of work parties either and was well glad when budgets reduced our fancy dinners out to a potluck. Glad you survived yours and with a prize for it, too!

I need to get a new crock pot. I gave mine to my daughter and I miss it. Nice that you went to the party. Nothing better than good popcorn! Have a
great weekend!

We have a new head of school where I work and this is the first year we will have a holiday party on the day we get out for our holiday break. It follows a mandatory professional development workshop. I'm hoping it will be better than I think it will be. Now I'm craving popcorn.

That's such a nice tradition that your family does for birthdays.

I still use my crockpot quite often. I finally got an air fryer -- actually, my best friend bought me one because she insisted I needed it and I didn't want another gadget! But . . . I love it and it's a combination toaster oven, so I didn't have to add another appliance to my counter top.

I'm with you on holiday work parties. Dan and I used to work for the same company, so at least I wasn't the spouse that didn't know anyone, and it was okay. But after I left, I dreaded them, because I could never remember people's names.
