Friday's Fave Five #760

Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  It's Thursday evening and I'm trying to do my post but this pesky headache is making thinking and putting thoughts together hard.  So I'm going to listen to what my body is trying to tell me and head off to bed.  I'll just leave Mr. Linky up for you oh, so faithful bunch, and I'll join in after a good night's rest in the morning as soon as I can on to make my post.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Whew, amazing what a good sleep does.  It's been super windy here for days on end.  The price we pay for the nicer weather.  Chinook winds is what gets it unseasonably warm and while the warm is nice I tend to get headaches when the wind stays for days and the air pressure is different than the norm.  So onward and upward as they say.  Time to get grateful for the blessings of the week.

~ Operation Christmas Child ~ Sunday was Collection Sunday at our church, and in spite of the massive headache I had it was a wonderful service.  I'm always so excited to pray over those boxes as a congregation and then load them up in my car and take them over to the main collection center for the city.  I always hang around and help to check them in and then load them into the cases that will see them onto the semi which takes them to the Warehouse in Calgary.  It really is a most wonderful thing to be a part of.

~ unexpected day off ~ Monday I got an unexpected day off which was really nice.  I got some chores done, did some Christmas shopping, took the dog for a nice walk and dropped off the OCC shoebox gifts.  It was a nice relaxed day which I realized was much needed.

~ extra reading time ~ this week there was an appointment to take hubby to that took awhile, so while he was at his appointment I went to a little local bakery/coffee shop that was in the small town we were in.  I enjoyed a spicy sausage roll and coffee for breakfast and then treated myself to a banana cream tart.   Why not?  How often do I find myself in a little local bakery for breakfast?  I sat and enjoyed the decadent treat and some good quiet time reading.

~ Christmas shopping almost done ~ this year, as with a LOT of Canadians because of the insane inflation Canada is experiencing, we are more budgeted than usual for Christmas.  I am so glad I started my Christmas shopping early and have been doing a bit each month since summer.  I mostly finished up this week with just my Mom and Hubby left to get something for.

~ Bible Study ~ at Monday night's bible study there was a section of scripture that was really delved into and it was exactly the answer that I needed for something that was happening where I didn't quite know how to handle.  I woke up the next morning thinking of the portion of scripture and knew exactly what I needed to do.  I am so grateful for this study of Romans we are doing and for the great discussions we have.  So thankful for the word of God and how relevant it is to our everyday lives.

What have been your favorite blessings that God has brought you this week?

Good morning from NY! It is almost 8 AM here and so you're probably still sleeping out there in Alberta. I prayed that your headache would be gone today!! looking forward to you reading and posting for the FFF

Susanne: I'm so glad you were able to post some faves and had a good night's sleep. It's windy here too and weirdly warm. I'm not complaining!!

I'm all about OCC and this afternoon will be volunteering at our church as we are the main collection site for several churches in our area. We have about 800 boxes so far that just OUR church has brought. I'll find out later exactly how many as of today. SUnday morning is our last time to collect boxes and onto the trucks they'll go, on Monday morning. Now that I'm retired I can finally volunteer for this!! (altho we've done boxes as a family since it began in 1993).

I love that you spent time reading and enjoying yummy breakfast treats this past week.

YAY for a day off and shopping almost done. Me too. I'm just about done with ordering things, buying things. Just have one more person and am waiting for several items to come in. Then wil just buy a few stocking stuffers at a local craft /artisan fair after Thanksgiving.

I hope you have a restful weekend with no more headaches. Mine are on again off again but doing better than this time last year!

I love how He's in conversation with you through your Bible study and bringing the Scripture you need at the right time.

Love love love the OCC projects. I've heard several stories recently from people who've met recipients of these gifts and how it changed their lives. What a far-reaching ministry.

Free time and reading with a treat? Wow. This time of year, that's practically a miracle :-)

What a wonderful deep and full book of the Bible to study. It is so good to wake with scripture on your mind. That's great that you are so far ahead with Christmas shopping. Sorry about the headache. We shipped off our boxes from church and our son's mortgage company inspired their employees to fill 100 boxes this year!

I'm so glad your headache lessened with sleep. My husband gets headaches with changes in air pressure--I imagine he would really feel the pressure like you do if he were up there.

I should have mentioned OCC, too! It's always fun to shop for it. As usual, I got more than would fit in a box, so I'm giving some of the leftovers to the local thrift store and saving some for next year.

What a blessing an unexpected day off is. And your treat plus reading time at the bakery sounds wonderful.

Wow, you're way ahead on Christmas shopping. We try to have most of it done shortly after Thanksgiving, but it snuck up on me this year.

I love it when something from the Bible perfectly intersects with something in life. God is so good to give us just what we need when we need it.

Glad to hear you're feeling better and have had a good week. It must be very rewarding to be part of the Christmas box project. I'm looking forward to helping out with Christmas hampers at the food bank. Have a good weekend.

I am glad you got good rest and reading time. I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet. I have got a few gift cards for stockings. I do give each family member an ornament each year. The Santa Ana winds mess up my sinuses. Enjoy your weekend!

Well, I am finally posting on Friday evening, so I hope you are resting and enjoying some more reading.
I love how the Scripture spoke to you and helped you make the right decisions. And that was after the unexpected day off.
Knowing how much you love OCC, I am happy to see how much you were able to help with collecting the boxes again this year.
Happy weekend to you and I hope your headache goes away.

I'm sorry about your headache. I hope it's better now. I like Christmas where the emphasis is on being together and not the gifts. I always gave my children one gift that I made myself. I am not crafty so these gifts were always rather...interesting.
