Welcome to a gorgeous very autumny Friday's Fave Five. We are half way through October already! Hard to believe. The days are just whipping by right now. Perfect time to slow down and take note of the blessings in our lives. Please join in!
1. Thanksgiving! I would have to say Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. There's the awesome food, the family time, the friend time, the day off, the rich meaning and tradition all without the crazy commercialism of what Christmas has become. We had my mom, my sis and family and Hubby's sis and hubby over for turkey dinner on Saturday. Monday is the official holiday but when one works from home and has dayhome families coming into one's home, it is just too much to have company for dinner that day as I have to have the house clean! Talk about stress. So Saturday was the day and I love that because it allowed me to go to church on Sunday and relax! We love our traditional turkey and dressing, gravy and mashed potatoes, spaghetti squash, and asparagus. I broke from tradition this year and made home made cranberry sauce using this recipe. I will never used canned sauce again. This was so delicious and so easy. I also made Crockpot Ranch Mushrooms, a big hit with everyone and again so easy! I also broke tradition by not getting pumpkin pie and instead got a Costco Pumpkin Cream Cake...soooo good and I tried this Impossible Pie. Again super easy and everyone really liked it. I think next time though, I'd put shaved chocolate on the cooled pie to serve. Sunday it was dinner at my sister's with my dad and a total food fest there too. It was a wonderful weekend and I lived in the moment and didn't even get around to taking one picture. I was too busy just enjoying and soaking in what was going on instead of being behind the lens. And you know what? That was ok for this year.
2. Control. In spite of all the delicious food, by the grace of God, I managed to control my during cooking tasting, my dinner eating and my dessert hoarding. I actually only had a small sliver of desert to taste it and no Pop! That is huge for me. It's on my favourite list because I've never been able to do this before. I've always been a total glutton to the point where I just would not stop eating and I was so full yet still stuffing my face.
3. Incredible Sunset. Last Friday, after running into the grocery store for the last of the Thanksgiving dinner stuff, I came out to everyone holding up their cell phones taking pictures of the sky. It was incredible. Pictures just can't do it justice. I couldn't get my phone out of my purse fast enough. The colors and scene were changing by the minute. I have never seen the clouds so textured! What a gift from my God who is the great creator and artist! Great way to start off Thanksgiving!
4. And the winner is.... I went on Facebook real quick one day this week for a quick check and one of my fave restaurants was running a contest and I won! Two free lunches. Me and hubby are going on a date!!
5. Special gift. One of my little dayhome kids went to Disneyland last week and she brought back this cute little mug for me. What a sweet thing for her and her mom to think on me when they were on vacation. And coffee just tastes better in a princess mug, don't ya know! And my favourite princess at that.
What were your favourite blessings from the last week?

Oh Disneyland! I hope she waved at my house as she flew in to LA :) Love your princess mug.
Hurray for winning the free lunches. I am always in awe of people who win anything--I think I've won two things in my entire life.
Your Thanksgiving celebration sounds like it was just the right amount of fun.
Oh my goodness all this food ! makes me think of Christmas as we don't have Thanksgiving ! After that I usually can't eat anymore for 2 weeks, lol ! How cute from the little girl to have brought you a gift, means that she likes you !
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! yay formself control with food and soda. I havent had soda in over 5 years except in a rum and coke and i have to say i do NOT miss drinking it!! full.of.chemicals. WHY do we do that to our bodies??? ugh.
i love those sunset pics. it reminds me of the clouds my hubby and I saw racing through the sky on Tuesday evening during, lur power walk. we made it back just in time before the rain came!
oh how cute that mug is and how kind for the daycare mom and girl to buy it for you!!
have a restful weekend Susanne
HI Susanne! I made it to FFF again - finally!
Glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend - we had our meal on Monday - and our hike. Monday works best for us because it's a busy Sunday for a minister :) I tried home-made cranberry sauce and I'll never go back to the canned variety again either. So simple yet delicious!
Good for you for not over-eating too. It's so tempting but it being stuffed isn't a good feeling. not to mention the extra pounds that pile on/. I've been working on that too.
Cute mug!
Enjoy your date with hubs!
Happy weekend!
That's great to win the contest! The sunsets down here in MA have been beautiful lately as well. I think they are prettiest at this time of year. They have to compete with the spectacular leaves changing.
What a wonderful week! Belated Happy Thanksgiving! That sunset is just gorgeous, and hurray for winning free lunches! What a cute mug and thoughtful gift. And it's great you were able by God's grace to maintain control on a food-laden weekend. I do tend to give myself a pass on those occasions and shouldn't, at least not as much of one.
That coconut impossible pie looks delish and yes on the chocolate shavings. I will be trying those mushrooms too.Tempting to make the cranberry sauce. Great idea to have your feast on a day when you could really enjoy it.
And controlled eating? CONGRATS as that is huge.
It is sooooo nice to be thought of by others. Enjoy your tea and coffee from an adorable mug.
Sweet mug! It's always tastes better when I drink from my favorite mug.
I love that there was a group of people taking a photo of the sunset. Gorgeous.
Oddly enough, I feel a bit envious that you get to celebrate Thanksgiving before us. It would be nice to have more time between the big holidays, and to savor Thanksgiving. Do you think people start ramping up for Christmas right away, or do they enjoy the time in between more?
Congrats on your self control! I'm working on that also.
The mug is so cute. How nice to be thought of! Beautiful sunsets. You will have to tell us if you eat Turkey and the same kinds of Thanksgiving fare we have here in the states. I like the idea of having Thanksgiving in October - in the state Thanksgiving is almost too close to Christmas. Enjoy your weekend.
I love Thanksgiving, too. Glad you had a good celebration. The sunset is beautiful. Hope you are having a peaceful Sunday.
