Welcome everyone to Friday's Fave Five. It's been a frosty chilly week here in Southern Alberta but there is still good things to find. What about you? Will you join us in looking for blessings throughout your week? If you need guidelines they are linked in the sidebar.
1. An extra day off. Remembrance Day here in Alberta is a holiday for most people (except retail). I usually take it off but this year I said I would stay open because I had taken a couple days off for a conference last month. But no one took advantage of the offer and I ended up with the day off anyway. It was really nice to sleep in a bit and sit and have a coffee or three while reading my book without being in a rush.
2. Hard working Hubby. He's been filling holes and ridges, sanding, and painting. Our room with the couch and tv in the basement (what do they call those nowadays? they used to call them rumpus rooms once upon a time) has needed a reno for some time. The walls were definitely showing use and abuse. Being paneling that had been painted over, it needed work. He skim coated dry wall, filled all the ridges, sanded it smooth and painted. Now they look like regular walls and I'm loving the fresh colors. Revere Pewter from Benjamin Moore on three walls and a light fresh blue on one wall. I'm not usually a fan of grey on the walls but mixed with the light blue it looks fresh, clean and new. I took my color inspiration from this minus all the white. Just our ceiling is white.
3. Encouraging words. Nothing like a few words of sincere encouragement that gives the soul a boost! I'm very thankful for those who share words like that.
4. Big fluffy duvets. I finally broke down and put the big quilt on the bed and now I'm wondering what on earth took me so long. Maybe I was hoping for more warmth in our fall but let's just call a spade a spade. It is darn cold this week. I mean, yesterday morning was -24*C (-11*F). What was I waiting for?
5. More clutter out the door. Another box to Thrift Village. I love the feeling I get when I made some hard decisions about stuff. Amazing how freeing it is when it is actually gone out the door. I wonder what on the earth the struggle was to let it go?
What are your favorite blessings this week?

We also had a day off, lots of people took off the Monday too so they had a long weekend.
The room looks great in these colors, I am not into grey either !
I love that room and those colors are awesome! Have agreat day off!
we had a day off too! your basement room sounds beautiful! I love our heavier quilt but I still don't have it on the bed...we aren't as cold as you folks yet. but guess what? we had a dusting of the white stuff last night! enjoy your weekend.
I love that sea star blue color! So lovely and restful to the eyes. Your basement sounds amazing. Have a great weekend.
Oh my, Susanne...I do understand about changing out the bed linens AND how good it is to make those hard decisions when it comes to de-cluttering! I changed out our comforters, etc. this week as well. We were in need of a new mattress pad so when I shopped this week, I bought a fluffy quilted top one. Oh my...that combined with the warmer comforter I love getting in bed!
I think the first time I went through to do a de-clutter it felt good to just get rid of stuff, but there were many things that I wasn't ready to part with. I was sure they'd be with me until I died. The second time I went through everything I found that I was now ready to part with some of the things that I'd held on to so tightly before. Just a process He takes us through, I think.
That is so nice that Remembrance Day is a day off for almost everyone. I wish it was that way with Veteran's Day. Pretty much only government agencies and banks are off for that day here.
Nice color palette!
So true about encouraging words - I need to remember to say them more often.
I love the colors and would love to see it in action (instead of a staged photo).
We're also in the middle of a project. Dust everywhere, but glad to be getting things done.
I always like to get rid of clutter. But I like to shop thrift stores also!!
For Veteran's Day here, I didn't get the day off, but traffic was much much lighter :-) Glad you got some extra relaxation time from your dayhome group. I like the color combination you've chosen very well -- very similar to what roomie and I chose for our friends (they had a robin's egg blue). And so good to have your own renovator in-house! Yay to less clutter! Have a great weekend, Susanne, and stay warm.
De-cluttering here too - it feels good!
Love your colour palette - doesn't it feel good to renovate? Especially when it's done! Everything feels so fresh and clean.
I think it's time to get out our duvet - snow is in the forecast.
Happy weekend Susanne - thanks so much for hosting! xo
Hi Susanne, I heard about your Friday posts from a friend, and had to come to visit. What a lovely way to end each week. I always enjoy meeting encouraging and positive blogging sisters. So, Hi! I enjoy your book reviews too; sometimes it's hard to find a good book.
Have a lovely weekend.
Connie :)
Wonderful list today Susanne! I call our downstairs TV room the "family room". Not sure if that's correct but...
uummm, no THAT is cold! :)
Glad you had an extra day off. Those are the best days ever because it is unexpected.
Fresh painted walls and a decluttered area are some of my favorite things. Love the colors you picked out.
I'm glad you got to have a day off, a rest is always wonderful. I love the colours you have chosen so pretty and fresh. It's always cheering to decorate, the only downside is that everywhere else looks shabby in comparison.
Gosh, it does sound cold there! At least you have the lovely snuggy duvet.xxx
OH hurray, for getting the clutter out! So often, after I have decluttered and the stuff has left the house, I can't even remember what I gave away!
I'm glad you had that extra day off. You get credit for offering to stay open AND you get the day off--win-win.
Glad you had an extra day off. It's such a blessing to have hard working hubbies! Enjoy your weekend!
