Friday's Fave Five #224

The very first week of FFF for 2013!  Happy New Year everyone!  I hope your New Year is off to a bang of a fresh start.  A great way to start off the new year, in my very humble opinion, is to look for the blessings in one's life.  So please join us as we do just that with Friday's Fave Five.  I'll be posting my own list just a bit later in the morning.  The time really got away from me yesterday so didn't make the scheduled posting but I'll be by in just a bit.  Meanwhile, you girls (and any guys who want to join in) just go ahead and start the party without me.  New to it all?  Just pop by here first for the guidelines.

Whew, quite the day yesterday, but I so did not want to miss doing FFF, especially the first one of the year. Wanna set the right tone of gratefulness for the year!

1.  My first one is the biggest for me, my son making it home, safe and sound, on New Year's Day.  We were so glad to see him roll up.  He had actually got off the day before, but the medic relieving him was several hours late.  Which made him very late getting on the road to get home, setting him up to not arrive until 1 or 2 in the morning.  On New Year's Eve.  So we really encouraged him to stay at the main base for the company over night, which he did, and he arrived safe and sound before lunch.   Unfortunatley, his sis only got to spend a couple hours with him before she had to head back to her city.  But at least they got to see each other.

2.  Celebrating New Year's Eve at my sister's with a lovely ham dinner, lots of laughs and playing a new game my Youngest introduced us to.  Lots of fun.

3.  Oldest daughter arriving at her home safe and sound.  Man, this mama does not like all the miles her kids have to be on highways, but she made it safely in good time with good roads.  I'm always very relieved to get that text that she made it there.  This time she had good company for most of the trip back and for that I'm very thankful too.  Such a long drive, more than 6 hours, to do by oneself so I'm really thankful she had someone with her.

4.  Some good reading done in 2012.  Looking back at everything I read over the last year, it is quite a list. There was some really good reads in there.  I never take reading for granted or the accessibility I have to a world of wonderful books or the fact that I get to choose what I want to read.

5.  A silly thing, but I do love a fresh, new calendar up on the wall.  I know, go ahead and laugh.  I'll wait till you're done.  :v)  But there is something about a fresh new start, with nothing blocking it up yet.  It just makes me feel good.

Thanks for joining in with me for the new year.  I'm looking forward to reading all your blessings and things you are grateful for coming up in the year.  Reading all yours always makes me that much more aware of different things I can look for within my own weeks.  Happy New Year everyone!

I'm so glad your son made it home! I know you all were glad to see him.

I may have to check out that game. Our oldest has discovered Uno and we played it last week. Blessings to you!

The safety of our kids is a huge blessing, I know! I know what you mean about a new calendar, too. :)

I know exactly what you mean about a new calendar -- I probably would have put that too, if I had thought of it. One of my favorite things to do is to get out the calendar for the new year and put all the birthdays on it and enjoy all those blank spaces before hanging it up.

I know what you mean about children traveling, too. Ours was flying rather than driving but that day there was a lot of bad weather, and we're so glad he made it safely.

I like looking over the books from the last year as well.

We LOVE Apples to Apples! It's fun to play when company comes, too.

I love new beginnings myself so I understand how a new calendar feels. Myself, I love opening a new planner. Such possibilities!

We love Apples to Apples around here. In fact, it's a given that when we have a church get together, Jerri brings the Apples to Apples game.

How awesome that your read so many books this year. I am going to make reading a priority this year. I probably won't do book reviews though.

I love a new calendar too. So laughing from this corner of CA.

Susanne, I am ao glad to start a new year with you and gratitude!!

I'm glad both your children made it to and from your house safe and sound! Apples to Apples is a game I'e heard a lot about but have never had an opportunity to play. It sounds like you had a good week.

I'm very behind blog-wise but I hope to be back in the fff fun next week.

So glad you had a great holiday with your family. I haven't played Apples to Apples but I've heard good things about it. We were playing Ticket to Ride this year - lots of fun!

I like a fresh new calendar too Susanne :)

I still need to buy my 2013 calender! Yikes!
I understand all about the prayers and concerns for driving safety. Glad your kids made it safely over those roads.

That's a shame that this medic relieved your son so late ! But better late then not at all ! So you too had a nice New Year's Eve, I don't know this game !

I love having a new calendar, too, admiring how nice and EMPTY it is! One of my favorite New Year's traditions is a new calendar.

Happy New Year, Susanne! Wishing tons of blessings to share for FFF this year!

Hoping to get back into the game with this one this year!

Glad your kids all traveled safely and that they got to see each other! It's always disappointing when it doesn't work out to see the sibling. (This happens to me a lot!)

Love Apples to Apples! That is a fun game.
