Time to Get Motivated

Well March has definitely come in more as a lion than a lamb around here.  It is cold outside and it's snowed for a couple of days again.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the nice day forecast for tomorrow holds up for my son's ski trip.  I don't know, maybe I'm getting old but the thought of whipping down a mountain when it's bitter cold outside no longer appeals to me.  The young, they don't seem to notice.  He's not concerned about it at all.

I've been purging out clothing in the last few weeks.   A couple of ladies I know are opening a gently used clothing store so I've taken that as my cue for trimming back around here.  I started Laura's 52 Weeks of Organizing with great plans but with my MIL's health scare in January everything came to a grinding halt.  But life is slowly returning to somewhat normal so I'm taking the bull by the horns while the urge is there and life is allowing it.  I've already filled 2 bags worth of stuff and am still working on it.  I can't believe I hang onto clothing that no longer fits right or looks good or that I just plain don't like. And my girl is somewhat the same way.  She doesn't wear what she doesn't like but it sits in her space.  That's not a good thing to pass on to your children!  So I'm going to be going through her closet and dresser with her maybe this weekend.   Laura has great tips on purging your closets here if the mood happens to strike you too.

After years of not having a garage sale each year, I've decided that this year I'm going to again put one together for the spring.  So I've slowly been filling up boxes specifically labeled "garage sale".  I'm tagging the item with a price right away before I put it in the box so the chore of pricing will already be done come garage sale time.  I'm hoping that will cut the stress and overwhelming amount of work when the crunch time is on.  I've already got a couple of big boxes filled.  The thing with garage sales is that getting the money and getting the unwanted stuff out of the house is wonderful, but the collecting of the stuff until the manifestation of the sale is a pain!  I'm already grumbling everytime I bang my toe against the boxes in the storage room and I've only got two boxes sitting on the floor!

Hopefully this urge to get back to Laura's challenge will continue and I can get back on track, albeit somewhat behind on my list.  My 52 weeks will probably look a little more like 45 weeks but that's okay.  Beating one's self up doesn't motivate too much now,  does it?  Instead I'll be my own little cheerleader.

Rah, rah!

What a great idea to tag the item as you decide on things you want to sell! Brilliant. Hope the weather improves for you and for your son even if he doesn't care...

March is coming in like a lamb here but Feb. sure left lion-like with severe flash-flooding on our area. Thankfully that's all back to normal and it's pretty spring-like. I am wondering if we'll have any more cold snaps before winter officially exits.

I tend to hand on to clothes too long, too. When there is something I am on the fence about, I guess I think maybe I'll actually come to like it better at some point. Duh. And there's always the "maybe I'll fit into that next year" stash.

Great idea to tag things as you go. I don't like having to store things until a sale, either -- guess that's why I usually end up taking them to a charity.

Haha. I was just trying to explain the March lion and lamb thing to our international students from Korea and China yesterday!
I'm so glad you put in the link to the 52weeks site; that is just the help I need.
My experience with having a garage sale is pretty dismal. It never earned us much and it took the whole weekend with both adults on the premises. Now we have an annual garage sale at our church to raise scholarships for the summer camp program, and I am happy to give the stuff to a good cause.
Of course, I often help at the sale and bring home loads of stuff with me...collecting is my disease!

every little bit helps! Now that your closet is so 'empty', do you get to go shopping? :)

Great idea to tag your garage sale items as you put them in the box!

March came in like a lion here too. Snow! Hoping for the going out like a lamb thing... :-)

I need to go through my closet again. It sounds like you're really getting motivated. Good for you.

And pricing the garage sale items as you put them into the box, brilliant!

Happy Purging...

my mom, who is even more organized than I am, used to price her garage sale items as she placed them aside. I always thot that was clever. I've never held a garage sale as I tend to give it to our Encouraging Families Ministry at church (they take anything that is gently used, except clothing unless they have a specific need for clothing). I love browsing garage sales tho for old books and picture frames! have fun organizing...I need to go thru my clothing, too!

It must be the season to clear out things. I donated two huge bags of clothing to a local charity today. I cleaned out my closet and dresser drawers too. I used to do yard sales here but it has become too much work for me so I just donate instead.

That's awesome girl...life does have a way of throwing us curveballs doesn't it.

Love your garage sale tip to price things as you put them in the box. That is going to save you so much time!
