Happy New Year everybody and welcome back to Friday's Fave Five. If you're new, we're so glad you joined us! You can go here for details. Don't forget to sign on to Mr. Linky if you've done a post on your fave things from the week!
So to start the first Fave Five of 2009 it's going to be:
1. A quiet New Year's Day spent lazing around the house and just reading and blogging. I love the Christmas season but boy oh boy, was I looking forward to New Year's Day where I could just be. And that's exactly how it went. Stayed in my jammies until 11 a.m. and made a yummy relaxed brunch of berries pancakes and bacon. Then curled up with coffee and my laptop and book. I totally ignored the Christmas decorations screaming at me to put them away and just relaxed. It was much needed and I'm totally refreshed and ready to do all the post Christmas de-decorating and cleaning now.
2. Christmas and holiday blends of coffees. I actually recieved three different kinds for Christmas gifts so it was fun trying out the different kinds of coffees over the week. My favorite was the Starbucks Christmas Blend. Unfortunately, it's all gone now. Oh, well, there's always next year. :v)
3. Appetizers for supper a couple times this week. We recieved a couple of really large, really nice food baskets as gifts and it's been fun just noshing out on all the specialty foods that were in them that we normally wouldn't buy. Wonderful stuff like sausages, cheeses, olives, crackers, pates and spreads. Not something we do all the time, but fun once in awhile.
4. My birthday was just a wonderful day. Even though I worked, it was very relaxed. Hubby worked on getting my bookshelves up and I can hardly wait to get my books into my very own "library". Then we enjoyed a lovely dinner out at a fancy, schmancy steak restaurant in town, one that overlooks the whole city. So nice. I would have taken a picture of my dinner but my family was aghast that I would even though I told them any good little blogger worth their weight in posts would put up a picture of what they ate for dinner. They didn't buy it. Alas, you'll just have to use your imagination and picture appetizers of mushroom caps stuffed with cream cheese, shrimp and crab, a dinner of New York Strip Loin with wine sauteed mushroom, stuffed potato and a roasted veggie assortment of brocolli, acorn squash and carrots on a white plate and dessert of 3 layer chocolate cake (which we all shared).
5. And saving the best for last was spending time with my beautiful girl, Kay. She spent lots of time at home over the last week, just hanging out with us. I really appreciated that as I know her friends were really pulling on her to do things. It was so nice just to sit and watch Amazing Race and parts of So You Think You Can Dance with her which is something we did together before she left for school. She doesn't have tv so I recorded the season for her and she did a marathon of it. I didn't sit through the whole thing but was able to join her for a lot of it. We read together, chatted, and just spent lots of time. It was so nice to have her here to help celebrate my birthday. It was again very hard to say goodbye when she had to back, so now I'm counting the days to Easter but I think I'll try to talk hubby into a little road trip before then. :v)
So do you have favorites from your last week? Do up a post and let us know. It's so refreshing to read all the good things about our days.

I still haven't put away Christmas decorations yet either. I was planning on doing it today, but decided to just lounge around instead.
Happy New Year to you!
Our christmas decorations are still up too.I love a good cup of coffee too especially at home. Thanks for the comments ..
Oh I had such a lazy and relaxing day as well. I actually didn't get out of bed until noon. Now that is a treat!!!
I'm gone from home so nothing will be put away until I get back on Sunday.
My faves are uploading now.
I put away the Xmas decors. and tree yesterday and have just my winter decorations up now. Tidied up yesterday and then spent the day on my Facebook, read some blogs, read a fantastic novel, just relaxed! My post is now up.....enjoy the weekend.
Good morning Susanne! I enjoyed your 5. I relate to #5 in a big way except I'm the one who leaves and comes back :0)
Sounds like a great birthday and perfect way to spend New Year's Day.
Blessings on you and all of yours this year!
Your list is great. I like doing appetizers for dinner too.
Happy belated Birthday!
Liked your list and wish you a happy New Year!
Hope you continue the Fave five´s this year!
We had a quiet New Year's too. I love and really need that peaceful spot between Christmas and restarting the routine.
I'm so glad you got to spend some fun time with your daughter!
What a lovely week Suzanne - I didn't have time for the Friday Favs this week - getting ready to send my girl off tomorrow - yikes!
I'll be back on track next week.
Thinking of you as you say goodbye to Kay - and so glad you had a wonderful Christmas vacation with her.
xo

Did you take the picture of that steamy coffee cup? That is an amazing shot!
Happy Birthday! And glad you have been having some time with your girl!
My Christmas decorations are away but that means only Christmas specific items. I leave out all my snowmen and other "wintery" items until closer to Spring.
Somehow it never seemed right to put out more spring items when we still have a couple months of winter to go. This year especially with all the snow on the ground and still coming...
Happy Friday!
I would never excoriate you for leaving the decorations up. :) Great list.
I'm glad you were able to enjoy New Year's Day the way YOU wanted to!
Tell you fam we are simultaneously disappointed and thoroughly relieved at not experiencing the fancy schmancy dinner photo. I'm drooling all over the place without it, thank you.
I planned to put away decor today and woke up feeling icky... there's always tomorrow right?
I didn't know it was your BIRTHDAY!!!! Happy .. Happy Birthday my dear blogging friend.. may the Lord bless you TONS and TONS this coming year!!!!!
We have our Christmas decorations put up as well. I love the idea of posting 5 favorite things from the week. It was so hard to narrow my faves down, but I finally succeeded. :) Lana
HAPPY NEW YEAR And HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am so glad I stumbled upon this meme.... helps me to reflect on GOOD things when things seem to always be "Bad"... or "Not Ideal"
I love your #5... I often think of what things will be like when my girls and my little guy are older and we don't have as much time together.... and it is nice to see something so positive.... Thank you for hosting!
My best friend mailed me a bag of the Starbucks Christmas blend! I was thrilled. It is sooo good.
It sounds like you had such a nice, relaxing time with your daughter. That's wonderful!
Your birthday dinner at the fancy shmancy restaurant sounded so good. I'm sure that 3-layer chocolate cake was a perfect ending! :)
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, Susanne!!! Dinner sounds divine. I had to laugh about the camera thing. My guys would not let me take mine into Bass Pro Shop, then we got in and saw several people taking pictures. So I whipped out my cell phone. :0)
I bet you did hate for Kay to go back. Well, if you do make the road trip, you know we want pics! lol
I didn't know it was your birthday, Susanne. How on earth did I not know that? I'm so glad you had a nice dinner out and listen. It's ALWAYS OK to take photos of your dinner. You heard that from the expert who takes photos of every dinner out she gets because they're so rare. LOL
I so, so plan to do the year recap meme. I started it and then, ugh, I got sick, and I've been in bed for two and a half days. But it's a great meme and I'm doing it!
Love your Friday favorites and I love that you and Kay had such a wonderful time together. xoxo
Happy new year Susanne! I'm trying to catch back up again...love your list! I'm glad you got to have Kay there and spend time with her, very fun for us mamas. Happy birthday too!
We had a quiet new year too and it was nice...I think I stayed in pjs til the afternoon, and loved it!
