This has been a bit of an up and down week for me, so I was looking forward to doing this just so that I could see that yes, there were bright moments. And once I started there were much more than five but I picked these ones to list here.
1. Beck's mockathon of O magazine's Christmas gift suggestion list. Is it the toys in the stores? The Christmas paraphenelia spilling out of the aisles that signals the season has started? No. It's Beck's annual grading of the gift suggestions pushed by this magazine. This is quickly becoming a traditional laugh fest around here and we can hardly wait for this post to come. And the comments are just as good. Go grab a coffee, read and shake your head at the ridiculousness of some of the suggested gifts for a country in a finacial mess. But make sure you swallow before each one. Because you will laugh. Updated to add Beck has Part II up now here.
2. Watching the Amazing Race. A Sunday night tradition around here. I really miss my oldest daughter watching it with me, though. And she doesn't have cable or an antenna so we can't even text discuss it, but it is quickly becoming a tradition with my other two kids now.
3. My PVR. Or DVR/Tivo if you're a south of the border friend. I love this thing. I can tape the aforementioned Amazing Race and save it for aforementioned daughter for when she comes to visit and we'll make a marathon of it. I can tape a show and watch it at my convenience, I can fast forward commercials, pause and rewind live tv. Love it.
4. Operations Christmas Child. I love, love, love everything about this ministry. "The Power of a Simple Gift" is their theme and it is oh so true. From teaching my children about giving and praying for other children in other parts of the world, to the shopping for it with each of my children, to the packing and the praying as a church over the boxes it is an absolute joy for me. I am challenged with each newsletter they send about good things that have happened in communities and with individuals and families that have recieved the boxes. You can read about some of those here if you've never quite known where that box goes and what all it can do to open dooors in communities.
5. Bacon Double Cheeseburgers. I know, I know. Calorie city. I only have them once in a blue moon for that very reason. They are definitely not a health conscious choice. But one of the those blue moons was yesterday. And boy did I enjoy every. single. bite. Yummy. I'm not expecting another craving now until at least 2009. :vSo what were your favorite things from this last week. What has tickled your fancy, made your week, made you smile? Write up a post and come and sign Mr. Linky so that we can all come and enjoy what was your favorites.

Hi Susanne! I so enjoy Amazing Race and then my other favorite started this week Top Chef! Have a great weekend. We are praying for Montecito and Westmont College that is being threatened with Wild fires. Some of the structures on the campus have been burned. I have a post on my blog asking for prayer...
Good mmorning Susanne! Wonderful list of 5! I checked out #1 too funny! Don't think we could live with out our DVR.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Susanne,
What a great meme idea. It really made me count my blessings this morning. Thanks!
Jenny
Lol Brenda--one way to count your blessings. :)
Thanks again for the wonderful meme Susanne and for letting us all play along.
I enjoy the Amazing Race, but CBS messes up the time each week (football!) and I will not miss Desperate Houses! So, every week I change the channel.
Oh you are so funny! I could not eat a bacon double cheeseburger if my life depended on it.
But ... I am a HUGE fan of Beck's mockathon and of Operation Christmas Child. We took a tour of their place in NC a couple years ago and in our tour group was a young woman from Russia who had received a box when she was a small child. That was so cool!
I love the focus of gratitude, and I enjoy reading other folks' lists, and I got a huge kick out of Beck's take on the O magazine Christmas gift suggestion list.
Thanks, Susanne!
Aw, thanks! (and I have the second half up today. WHAT A LONG LIST this year!)
I wish I had a bacon double cheeseburger. YUM. And we're doing our Christmas Child boxes this weekend - great list!
Your magic camera comment cracked me up. Off to visit Beck.
That cheeseburger looks YUMMY! I know what I'm having for lunch!
Hi Susanne, I would have to say one of my favorite things from this week would have to be Alaena's belly laughing. She is very ticklish, and I will tickle her belly, and she will laugh so hard! It makes my day!
I'm doing a give away on my funny blog! Comd check it out here!
Susanne, am so looking forward to a good laugh with your first link! For the first time in many years, I will have to miss the Operation Christmas Child -- but am participating in a similar ministry to adults in Pakistan. Makes shopping fun, doesn't it?
Susanne, I have added my Fave 5. You will see that we have OCC in common :) What a great organization.
Thanks so much. This was a lot of fun and good therapy! :o)
Sadly we forgot to go to the meeting at church to help with Operation Christmas Child. *gasp and sob* But it is such a wonderful ministry and I am so glad the Lord led Samaritan's Purse to start it.
The mockathon was funny. Glad you posted it because it was the first time I had ever read it.
And thank you Susanne for the compliment on my new blog look. You are too sweet.
Hi Sauzanne - I'm a little late today but everything is up!
We're doing Christmas Shoeboxes this week at our Sunday School.
And speaking of calorie-laden things, I almost hate to direct you over to my place . . . Oh my it's good though!
Have a great weekend!
Great list Susanne. We look forward to Amazing Race too. I'm always disappointed when it's over!
I totally understand about the burger. Every once in a while I just have to have some Wendy's fries. Not a healthy choice either - but sooo good!
Have a great weekend.
I love my DVR too - saves so much time! And I need to go check out Beck's O list - that sounds hilarious!
My cholesterol went up 10 points just LOOKING at that burger! It looks sooooo good!
I've posted my fave five. Have a good week!
I had planned to do this but have been sick -- so, this late in the day, I think I'll just wait til next week.
I love bacon double cheeseburgers, too! And I love the Amazing Race as well. I tape it Sunday night and watch it Monday morning while I am getting dressed, curling my hair, and making the bed, etc. My family will watch it if I have it on, but they are not really fans. That color festival was crazy. I am really glad the grouchy divorcees were eliminated.
I did click over to the gift list -- hilarious! What kind of world do people live in where they would buy that stuff at those prices?!
Well you know I LOVE Amazing Race! And the dvr/pvr things have to be the best invention ever, huge time saver for me. I've not read the O mockathon thing before but that was hilarious! We're packing a couple of boxes for christmas child.
Yum! bacon cheeseburgers. Love them and amazing race too!
Oh my goodness, I love, love, love The Amazing Race too!! I get so excited when I hear the theme music.
Thanks so much for hosting this and for the warm welcome when I first participated a couple of weeks ago :)
