With all the to-do with my back last week I had a follow up appointment with my doctor yesterday. After all we don't want me on the loopy drugs any longer than need be. I manage loopy quite well on my own without any outside help.
I checked in at the reception desk and sat down to wait for my turn. I had brought the novel I was trying to finish up thinking I might have a few minutes. My Doc is a bit of a story teller so sometimes he runs a couple of minutes late. Turns out it's a good thing I thought to take it because after watching the waiting room clear out of people twice, people that had come in after me, and a good 45 minutes later I was still sitting there. So back to the reception desk I went. The lovely young lady definitely remembered checking me in, but alas upon looking at her computer, it seems they "lost" me. Okay, then. Not good for the self esteem but putting that aside let's get this show on the road. I mean, I was paying for a sub in dayhome. By the hour. To her credit, the young lady felt horrible and immediately went to the doc and his nurse and they took me in immediately and I didn't even have to wait in the room 2 seconds before Doc was in there.
After asking all the usual follow up questions and checking what the xray doc had said about my xray from last week, it is determined that have some disc breaking downage between my 6th and 7th vertebrae. (I know that's not a word, but you get my drift). Nice. So then Doc starts talking doing an MRI just in case in the future I need to be referred to Mr. Neurologist for surgery. What?! Wait a minute. Time out. Uhmm. Surgery? No way! This is the first time this has happened. I mean, I love that he's a doctor on top of things but this is just a little too many steps ahead for me!
So the appointment proceeds and Doc checks my blood pressure. As he's pumping up the ole arm band he starts telling me that he too has a couple of discs that have the same thing and he's fine. He snowboards and everything. In fact, one time he was snowboarding with his kids, who got a bit ahead of him, and he fell down a ravine type thing. They of course, had no idea being ahead of him and all. All he could think of as he toppled down was if he was going to die. (Insert crazy giggle from Mr. Doc right here). Well they found him and he was fine. All that to tell me, in spite of the disc thingy his back is just fine.
At this point he stops his story, looks at me, and says: "Oh, your blood pressure is high".
Dead silence as I'm looking at him with huge eyes. Then I bust out in a huge laugh. "Ya think? This morning I've been "lost", the word "nuerosurgeon" has been tossed out there, and now I'm thinking I might need to find a new Doctor 'cause this one's gonna break his neck. Ya, my blood pressure might be a leeetle high." We both enjoyed at good laugh at that point.
I've been laughing over this all day whenever I think of it. Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine!
P.S. Don't forget Friday's Fave Five tomorrow!
