Going and Coming by Norman Rockwell
Going and Coming
by Norman Rockwell

Well, we rolled into the driveway from holidays late yesterday afternoon. What? You didn't even know we were gone? This autopost stuff is pretty neat stuff, isn't it? Anyway, we were gone all last week. There was lots of driving, lots of eating, lots of swimming and lots of good family togetherness. We only threatened to put each kid out on the roof rack of the van once during the whole trip. And that's not bad when you consider we spent about 21 or so hours on the road. In a closed in van. With 5 people squashed in amongst 1 hard side suitcase, 3 large duffle bags, 1 small cooler, 5 pillows, 1 overnight bag containing my shoes and other paraphanelia, 1 swim bag containing swimsuits, 4 cameras, 3 MP3 players, and a few books.

So needless to say, today I can hardly get moving. But get moving I must. Tomorrow is back to work which means the house must be clean, which it mostly is. I made myself do it before I left. And boy, does it feel good to come back to a clean house. I just basically need to wash some floors. The laundry, however, is another story. Even though I did every bit before we left, somehow, we managed to make about 4 loads while we were gone. How on earth is that possible? It must have been breeding in the suitcases. And grocery shop. 'Cause for some reason people around here want to eat. And probably so will Kay's friend from out of town who is arriving today for the week. Sheesh. Teenagers. Oh, and banking. Gotta do the banking. To see how much I overspent on this famly togetherness and to see how well we get to eat this week. LOL.

And I must catch up on blogs. Lots and lots of posts! Why must you people write such good stuff while I'm not around to read? :v) And Canadian Idol! I have to watch it all on my computer now. The hotel we were at in B.C. didn't carry the channel, for heaven's sake, so we missed Canadian Idol! A travesty, I tell you. We didn't think too much of it at first, because you see, I was a smart cookie! I set the recorder to catch it all before I left. That is, I didn't think too much of it until hubby said he unplugged everything before we left because of all the thunderstorms we've been getting. Every. Thing. Including said t.v. and PVR recorder. And unless it's plugged in, well, it really doesn't really record all that well. Sigh. No Canadian Idol, no So You Think You Can Dance, no Top Chef to come home to. Quite by chance, though, at the hotel, just before we went to sleep, we happened upon last week's episode of The Mole. Kay and I totally love that show. At least we didn't miss that one. LOL.

Are you getting how scatter-brained I'm feeling. This is my official running record of everything I need to do because if I don't write it down I'll forget something. Oh yeah. I did forget something. Gotta go buy a new battery and charger for my camera because somehow I left it in Calgary at the hotel plugged into the wall. But they can't seem to locate it. Aargh. That is one expense I did not expect, but I can't live without the camera! What is blogging without pictures?

And speaking of which, I'll have some up with some stories from the great trip of 2008, as soon as I start ticking some stuff off the to do list. Starting with coffee. Where's my coffee?!

Welcome home! Sounds like an amazing trip. Think you'll have to give us some detail about what places you visited while you were gone.

No, I didn't know you were gone! But I was just thinking that I missed seeing your comments over at my place...;)
It sounds like a great time your family had- maybe like with our own road trip, a little tiring, though!
Hope we can hear more about it- once you've rested up and caught up, that is!

Yay, you're home! You almost sound out of breath in this post--or like you've already had that caffeine. Are you sure you didn't chug some before writing that post?! Looking forward to the stories.

Oooh, yeah, the pvr thing won't really work if it's not plugged in, bummer!

I just got through reading Mistaken Identity; I really enjoyed it!

LOL! Glad you got home safe and sound. Sorry about the camera battery charger and the TV and recorder being unplugged!!

I love that picture -- so true to life.

I have a lot of great energy for the first couple of hours after we get home, but then the next day or two I;m reeeeally tired.

WElcome home! It sounds like a GREAT trip - and one benefit to the kids getting older is that they get WAY more bearable to travel with! WE're not at that point yet.

So when I first brought this post up and saw your "photo," I thought, good grief, if these are her dayhome kids, she's got her hands full. And look at her car - it's actually older than mine! LOL

Then I saw "Normal Rockwell" which means this picture is about five hundred years old. Like my car.

Very sneaky - going on vacation and setting up all those auto posts. Who knew you were gone? LOL

Welcome back. You weren't missed. Because we didn't know you were gone. That just cracks me up. :-)

Welcome home!! I know it's a nice feeling to come home to a clean house, but the laundry is overwhelming. I call it my "Mt. Vacation" laundry pile! :)
I think it's great that you could get away with your family, in this crazy world we live in, some down time with family is so needed. :)
Where did you go BTW????
