The Ones That Are Surviving

I have no idea why I thought I'd take you on a garden tour around my place, but I figured I'd do it before anything started dying off. Around here, that could come at any time, in any of a multitude of ways. If a plant wants to dwell in my garden, it better learn the rule of survival of the fittest. I am so not a gardener. I love the look but don't like the work. I don't like weeding or bugs or bees. So if it can make it, with a shot of water each day, and an occasional dose of Miracle Grow, it is welcome in my garden. So here's my small efforts to bring some color to my summer.

For all the complaining I've been doing about the wacky weather and the thunderstorms and the rain, I must say, that with a little miracle grow, it sure has been great on the garden.

I am far from a green thumb. In fact, it really is survival of the fittest around here. If I told you how many times I've dug up stuff out of this front, north facing bed and moved it around or totally got rid of it over the years, well, it would make my friend Katherine's hair curl. She's the queen of preplanning gardens and spending $50 a year towards getting them to look like the plan. Let's just say that I totally don't know what I'm doing and my plan has been hit and miss to say the least.

Here's the front bed from a different angle. I've got 4 hostas spread throughout that I just planted this year so they are small yet. I'm looking forward to what they'll look like next year when they are more mature. But then who knows I may not like it and dig it up. Just kidding, Katherine! Maybe. :v)

This is one of my favorite pots. Don't ask me why it looks so great. I couldn't tell you. LOL. But boy, does it like the water. If it doesn't get water everyday, it positively gets droopy. Poor thing.

This is my other favorite pot on the deck. Tia got me 2 wave petunia's for Mother's Day. A pink one and a purple one and it's totally filled the pot out.

Unfortunately, my pot by the front door hasn't faired as well. It was absolutely gorgeous and then the great monsoon of Canada Day happened and I swear I have not really watered that thing since. With the rain we've had that thing is so saturated that the flowers have been dying off from rot, I think. Next year I'll have to empty it all out and open the drain hole in the bottom of it. It's such a large pot I didn't think I'd have to do that but lesson learned I guess. Who'd have thought a flower plant doesn't like to have it's feet stay wet.
