Ye Olde Hand Update

Well I can't believe it's been a whole month yesterday that I broke my hand, 3 weeks since surgery to install 2 screws to hold the bone together. In some ways time has flown and in other ways it's gone so slow. I cannot even convey how much I have missed regular posting and commenting.

Here's the hand today. It looks fat because of the angle of the camera but there really is only one little area over the scar that has a little swelling. I now have to do a fun thing called scar massage. Looks a tad bit better without the swelling, stitches and the blue road map the surgeon had on there, don't you think?

So here is the scoop, heard here first. The surgeon and the OT (occupational therapist) are amazed at my range of motion. Praise the Lord! Thank you so much for your prayers. I guess those exercises every two hours have also paid off. Even though the monotony of doing them every couple hours sometimes drove me to distraction.

Doctor man says I am now half way through the healing process. I still have to wear the "cute" red cast full time for one more week and then I get out of hand jail for most of the day but still have to wear it all night and if I'm doing something where the hand needs protection until the 6 weeks is up. And I still can't lift, push or pull anything until the full six weeks is up. And do you know what the first thing is that I will attempt when this thing comes off? Hands down (hee) it will be two handed typing! Maybe I can actually finish a post in less than 2 days. The thought makes me giddy with excitement!

This experience has been a bit eye opening for myself, let me tell you. I have learned a few things about myself, some good, some not so much. I might share them in another post. Hey, maybe a two handed one.

Good to hear your update. I'm happy that things are progressing well. Ha! It's amazing how much we depend on smaller parts of our bodies. makes the whole body of Christ and each one using their gifts make a lot of sense for things running smoothly and effectively....

That is certainly good news! I am so happy you are doing better and that you will be back full force soon. It does still look very painful to me, though! I pray God continues to heal you perfectly.

I am so glad your hand is improving so well, Susanne! Great news!

I'm driving people crazy with my reminders, but just a little over two days and we're off on the road!

Please keep us in your prayers if you would...and when I get back, you'll be even that much further in the healing process! :D

OHMYWORD! GIIIIIIIRRRRLLLLL! I'm sorry that I wasn't keeping up with things and didn't know you'd done this to your lil' ol' self.

Fun having hardware installed, isn't it? We'll have to compare scars soon.

Loves!

Yay! God is so good to heal you the way he has. Isn't it fantastic to realize that you CAN do some things one handed, yet relieving to realize that you won't have to do so permanently.

Looking forward to the two-handed post!

Blessings!! Glad you're much better. Isn't it amazing what a bit of a disability (using one hand only!) can do to our preset and prescribed way of doing things. Shakes us out of our rut!! Been there.

It looks great, Susanne! It's had to believe a whole month has gone by since this happened, but your recovery is amazing. I can only imagine how frustrating it's been, being one-handed, but really you've done a great job of staying in touch with us, all things considered.

Your hand looks great - I'm so glad this is almost over for you.
