This post has been churning in me for a week now. I've been tossing back and forth whether I should write it or not. I mean it would be really easy to just let this little thing go because after all if I don't write it, no one will ever really know right? Well no one except me and then I start to feel convicted, because while I may not divulge every little private thing on the 'ole blog, I do want to stay real and honest.
And then I go to my friend, Barb's blog, and right there in Sunday Meaderings, what is she discussing but honesty. And how she's going to answer some questions that were asked in her "Ask me" post even though they may be a bit difficult and out of her comfort zone. Sheesh. I don't need to be hit on the head twice. That was a devotional directly for me.
So remember this post? About the grad dress? Well, things have changed a touch. Now everything I wrote about my girl still holds true. She didn't and doesn't want me to spend a ton of money on a dress, she wanted something simple, she's still very considerate of my budget. But here's the scoop. When Grandma found out we'd already looked for a dress, she had wanted to give money toward it. And she was quite disappointed that Kay had not even tried on a long dress. Part of the grad experience to her was the girls being in long dresses. So to humour her grandmother (and, in part, me) Kay agreed to go try on some long dresses last week. And lo and behold, once she put a few on, she actually found one she really liked. Still simple, but beautiful, and definitely more on the grad and prom side rather than a fancy everyday kind of dress like the short one was. And guess what? God is so good. The day we went, the manager put every dress in the store on for half price, and the dress that Kay loved still ended up being an incredible price. So the whole thing came to not much more than the short cocktail dress. So when she put in on for Grandma, the happy smile, tears in the eyes and hugs from Grandma made the change worth it. And in the long run, I think Kay is really pleased Grandma and me pushed her to try some long gowns on. All her friends are ending up in long dresses. And let me tell you, they are paying a lot more then Kay did. And she'll still end up being gorgeous.
So here's a pic from the store. She had about 3 people talking to her at once here so she's got a bit of a funny look on her face. And ignore the b*ra straps. They won't be there the night of grad. She might put the spaghetti straps that come with the dress on. She hasn't decided yet. I'll post better pics come grad time.
So there you have it. I don't quite know why I struggled so much to write of this little change of our dress plans. It's not like it was some life altering bit of deception that I was hiding in the background. You all had left such nice comments on the last dress post and by not saying anything, I totally felt like I was being deceptive, but on the same token, I didn't want you all to think we were doing something which turned out we weren't.
Does this make any sense? Are you all still talking to me?

Wow it's beautiful! I love the color and the sparkly touches. It's a special night and of course you want her to be happy. I'm so glad you told us about it.
In answer to your blog post title: definitely yes!!
It's neat to have an outcome where everyone is pleased, and to have gotten a great deal is wonderful!
I admire her for being thoughtful of you and her Grandma and for wanting something simple and not wanting to blow the budget. She has good taste: the dress is beauitful.
I'm wondering if this is one of those moments when you look at you daughter and think, "Wow, my little girl is gone and there is a beautiful woman here instead."
Changing our minds about a dress?? but of course...It's gorgeous!!
I just awarded you with an award so come on over and pick it up!!!
Barbara, it's definitely one of those moments. *sigh*
dcrmom: Actually I'm tickled pink she got the long dress. I told her it was totally up to her though. At least she humored her Grandma and me. I didn't want her uncomfortable on her night.
Beautiful. How sweet that you have a united decision that everyone is happy with. Sweet!
She looks wonderful Susanne :)
And of course a woman can change her mind, I do it all the time LOL
I just love grammas, they make life just more fun :o)! Glad she found such a flattering and beautiful dress for the special night.
Makes perfect sense! and you are such a sweet person, it just shines through your words!
She looks beautiful! I love the dress and think it'll be perfect; I think she'll be happy with a long one.
Us girls can always, always change our minds!
That's a gorgeous dress - and really, how many formal occasions to do we have? She looks absolutely beautiful.
I've never known a woman who didn't change her mind! And speaking as the grandma, that was such a sweet thing to do! She's gorgeous and so is the dress.
Isn't it fun being a girl? And a girl's mom? That was so sweet of Grandma to want to be part of this. Kay is really blessed, and she knows it, that's why she doesn't take you all for granted or her "stuff." You have done well. I'm glad you posted about this, and that dress is gorgeous! It's a great color for her!
But, it's a beautiful dress and she looks gorgeous in it! And it sounds like all of the women in your family are happy with it, so hey - all's well that ends well, right?!
And I agree, changing our mind is always a women's perogative! :)
You are too funny,Susanne. Did you think we'd stop talking to you because she changed her mind? She's beautiful, the dress is gorgeous and now you feel all better about telling us your horrid secret, so it's all good.
My devotional inspired this burst of honesty? Goodness.
It doesn't make some of the questions I received any easier to answer, but I'm sure glad it helped you out of your dilemma. :-)
Gorgeous dress & beautiful girl! How fun to get to anticipate such a momentous occasion. I am so happy you got blessed!
Oh my! What a beautiful dress! What a beautiful blessing. Every woman is entitled to change her mind, particularly about an important outfit for a special event.
She is beautiful, long dress or no? And yeah, I'm talking...it'll take more than that to cease my visits here!
Thanks for your honesty!
The dress is gorgeous, and Kay looks lovely in it. And I can't count the number of times I change my mind a day. Not to say that once I've made up my mind anyone can sway me. I tend to have a bit of a stubborn streak, which can be much worse than changing your mind now and then!! LOL!
Looks like a beautiful dress!
Oops -- sorry about that deleted comment. I had the wrong blog logged in. Here's what it said:
Silly girl! I don't know why you struggled, either!
Changes happen!!!
And sometimes, changes are better, better, better! She looks wonderful in this dress, and the color suits her beautifully!
Now -- the real question -- can you return the other dress? Or can she wear it to homecoming or something like that??
The dress is beautiful - and so is your daughter.
Isn't it lovely that you all went together on this - makes it very special.
Mom, you're so cute. And funny and sweet.
The dress is gorgeous. I love Kay's hairstyle.
Well, I had to think about it a few day and ask the Lord to help me with my hard heart, but I've finally come to the decision to forgive and to forget. I'll talk to you now.
I'm just glad that you've got that off your chest now.
I LOVE the dress! I don't think she'll regret it at all.
it's beautiful, she'll remember that for a long time.
