Routine, wherefore art thou routine?

How was everybody's Christmas? I thought I'd pop in and say hello. I have today and tomorrow off yet and then it's back to everyday life such as we know it here in the Living To Tell household. Well, life as I know it, anyway. The kids have until next week off. Lucky them. For hubby, it was back to work today. But even though I fight it and cringe at it, there comes with going back to work a sort of relief. A sense of familiarity and routine rather than chaos and rush and flying by the seat of my pants. A going back to routine with devotions and cleaning and blogging and eating.

Oh, the eating. I'm sure over the holidays I have consumed a whole tray of Big Mama's toffee all on my own. All the different and varied foods that you eat at day after holiday day that you never eat at any other time starts to wear at small part of me. Don't get me wrong, I love every bit of holiday food and treats as is evidenced by my annual tightening of the pants, but by this time, I am starting to crave the regular, everyday meals. And for us the Christmas food was only the beginning. It doesn't even mention the popcorn at this movie that we went to on Saturday for my birthday. We so rarely, ever go to the theatre, that when we do hubby just has to have the big bucket of popcorn to share and the pop to go with it! It's all part of the theatre experience, right? And then, the family took me on Sunday to Tony Roma's. Rib heaven. I had the St. Louis Sampler. And a tip if you ever go there? Their Mud Pie is to die for. Make sure you leave some room. Four of us actually shared one slice. It was that huge!

But now I'm staring the eliptical in the face. The dreaded January urge to get on the exercise machines. Ugh.

So in honor of getting back to routine, Laura, here is my menu plan for this week:

Monday: Slow cooked Maple garlic pork tenderloin, rice, steamed cauliflower

Tuesday: Turkey soup, grilled cheese sandwiches

Wednesday: Barb's Chicken and Spinach Pasta Bake, bean medley

Thursday: Shepard's Pie, steamed carrots

Friday: Scrounge Day

Saturday: oven fried chicken drums, baked potatoe, broccoli

Sunday: BBQ Beef, buns, salad, baked beans

What you post a slow cooker meal and not give me the recipe?!! Must have recipe!! LOL...pretty please :)

I forgot to tell you that I got an elliptical on the boxing day sales and I can't wait to use it. Today is all about getting rid of every last shred of junk in the house and then it's to the grind. Of course that "junk" is going right to my thighs and not to the garbage. I'd hate to be wasteful...he he.

I know exactly what you mean, Susanne. I welcome the break in routine -- but I am so glad to get back to it.

I can really relate about getting back to the routine of normal life. I love the xmas vacation from the classroom and my kids are wishing they didn't have to return to school wed. (here in NYS we don't get alot of time off for xmas but then again we do get martin luther king,jr day off and then a week in Feb) but I really prefer routines. and I must have eaten at least a lb of fudge in the last week not to mention the cookies and ice cream...so...back to power walking for me starting tomorrow! HAPPY NEw YEAR!

I think I might adopt some of your menu this week. Nummy! I'm looking forward a routine again. I only wish the routine didn't mean exams! Here to plenty of exercise and being healthy! Happy New Year!

Yes I like routine also, but I must admit, relaxation over Christmas break has been very nice ( and very needed!) Hubby and I are both teachers so we all go back to school tomorrow. I wish I could have these three R's - Rest, Routine, Relax! :)

Oh I also think we will eat salad and fruit all week to combat the assorted sweets of Christmas. LOL

~Happy New Year!

I think we are all craving our normal routines right now too. I'm sensing lots of those kind of themes on other folks' blogs.

And good for you for getting that menu plan up! I MUST do that next week!

I need to get back into a routine! Should have done a menu but just wasn't up to it yet. Sounds like you've had a wonderful Christmas! Happy New Year Susanne!

We went to see National Treasure yesterday, so fun! I've wanted to make toffee but just haven't done it...guess I should find the recipe for later.
