Now Works for Me Wednesday. I discovered this just the other day and couldn't wait to share it on Works for Me because it worked like a charm. But I might be delusional thinking I had discovered something cool and you all know about this already. If that's the case, humor me and let me think I discovered something on my own if even for a few minutes. ;v)
About 5 years ago we had bought a small garbage can with a lid for the bathroom. It had a label plastered on the front which left a sticky residue that I could not get rid of no matter how hard I scrubbed, no matter what cleaning product I used. I tried soaking that thing, using a brush, every soap in the house we had, even nail polish remover. And nothing worked. And it looked horrid, especially as dust got caught on it, it looked dirtier and dirtier. Then when I was muttering under my breath about it as I was cleaning the bathroom the other day, the thought to use WD40 crossed my mind. Where this thought came from I have no idea. But I went with the thought and guess what? It worked beautifully! No scrubbing, no fuss. It just took it right off. I now have a sparkling white garbage with no sticky stuff from the label left on it.
Who knew that WD40 would remove sticky residues on plastics? Works for Me!
Now if I could just get inspired out of the blue with an idea that would make me some money! ;v)

I'm glad you reminded me of WD-40 because the tried-and-not-so-true Goo Gone has left me disappointed. I had forgotten the WD-40 trick my mother used to use!
That is a good trick-- sometimes Goo Gone is not quick tough enough for the task!
(Did I mention on the other post that I really hope I win the Amy Grant book? :)
Good tip, Susanne. I am always needing to remove sticky goo!
I think you're fabu, even if I don't have a little award for it. :)
YES!! I even found a WD40 *pen* a few months ago. I love it!
Great tip. :)
My theory about life..if duck tape does not work then WD40 it! =))
You know, every holiday season, I buy these cute little plastic trays to take to carry-ins, etc. but there's always that sticky goo that won't come off, which I hate. So now I have another option to try!
I didn't know this, Susanne. I keep a product made by the Elmer's Glue people, called "Sticky Out" on hand for this. It's designed specifically to remove sticky stuff from labels. I never had a clue WD40, which is right up there with duck tape in Rob's opinion, would do the same thing. How clever of you to discover this.
Oh dear. I just read Laurel Wreath's comment. I plagiarized her and I didn't even know it! LOL
I'm so happy to read this tip. I hate that sticky residue! thanks...
your welcome Susanne
I come back day after day because I LOVE u and your blog
its always interesting
Congrats on such a well deserved award!!!
WD40 will take off crayon, too. Anything that is not water soluble. Or you can use cooking oil. WOOHOO! I get so excited over stain removal triumphs!
