Book Review & Giveaway ~ Mosiac

I had to opportunity to read "Mosiac - Pieces of My Life So Far" by Amy Grant for the blog tour of it's release this week. While expecting it to be a normal autobiography, the book surprised me as it is set up nicely just like it's title states, pieces of her life. Stories and memories of her life, lessons learned and special people, including family, make up the bulk of her reminiscing. I was nicely surprised at how much of a nice easy reading set up the book is. Unlike a normal autobiography which starts at the beginning of one's life and moves in chronological order, this book is more just bits and pieces of Amy's thoughts and memories in no particular order of her life, almost as if you were sitting down and having a coffee with her.

I was interested in reading this book because even though she is very much in the public eye, and had been since a very young age, I really did not know anything about her or where she's come from or the road she has walked. The most I knew of her was reports of her divorce and then marriage to Vince Gill and I knew there had to be more to her than that. Call it being nosey or curiosity, I was interested in what has formed her into the person she is today. She is my age and first started in the music business when I was a baby Christian and thus has travelled a very different road than me.

With lyrics to songs at the ends of most of the chapters the reader is afforded a glimpse into the heart and history of the song.

Waterbrook Press has generously given me 3 copies of the book to give away. Yes, you heard right, three! So if you'd like one, leave me a comment telling me what is your favorite Amy Grant song. I'll make the draw on a random generator early Friday morning and announce the winners then. Open to U.S. and Canadadian residents.

Mosaic may also be purchased here.

UPDATED TO ADD: Please make sure there is a way to get ahold of you through your blog or by leaving an email address. In order to be sent the book I have to be able to contact you!

I didn't even know she had a book out.. how cool!!!! She was one of the first people I started listening to when I first became a Christian.. and I fell in love with her song My Father's Eyes... I thought I hope some day that song would pertain to me!!!

I had no idea that she had a book. It sounds interesting. And like flipflop, she was one of the first Christian artists I started listening to years ago! Feeling old!!! LOL!

Sounds great.
My favorite Amy Grant song is "Angels Watching Over Me." I love that song.
"Father's Eyes" is special too, I remember that coming on the day after my wedding on Father's Day. I cried and cried :o).

You write such great book reviews, Susanne!

I'm curious about how she got to where she is, too, Susanne.

My favorite, ever, is Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song) but it's hard to choose one favorite.

OH Susanne! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! I am a HUGE Amy Grant fan, so big I'm embarrassed to tell people anymore. I have a "rep." My kids tease me about it all the time. People are always informing me about when she's on TV or touring or passing along magazine articles, etc. I don't know that I could name a favorite song because I have loved them all, but when I was really depressed, Cry a River meant a great deal to me. But I love them all.

Hello! Do you know that I do have a favorite Amy Grant song but it's a Christmas song and I can't remember what it's called and all my Christmas CD's are put away with the Christmas decorations! I play it over and over and over again. This is going to drive me nuts!

Hello,
Looking over all of the other choices people have made I have been going, oh yeah I like like that one too. Mine is El Shadai. Not sure of the spelling this early in the morning, but it is such a good song for reminding me who God is and all He is capable of.

Well, this must have been fun! I like her El Shaddai song. I'm curious about her also because Vince Gill is from Oklahoma. Good review, Susanne!

This is on my "wish list" for books. I have followed her since I was a teen also - she had the best contemporary music around when I was a baby christian. My favorite song of hers is a remake of the Carly Simon song called Big Yellow Taxi.

I would love this book - so PICK ME!!

Oh, dear, how I would love to have this book. I have been a fan since back in the day, and I think she was a real trailblazer in voicing the experiences and feelings of a young Christian in music.

My favorite-- goodness-- I would have to say either Lead Me On or If These Walls Could Speak.

Oh, enter me, too!
You know...she is my age- or very close to it- and I remember seeing her and Evie together after a concert at Jesus NW at a teen!
I would love to know a little more about her. I remember hearing about the divorce and then marriage to Vince Gill, and I remember feeling sorry for her first husband and a bit disappointed to be honest...but know there's always more than meets the eye.

I like a lot of her songs, and just can't think of a favorite. Probably El Shadai comes very close, though.
Thanks for the great review!

It's hard to pick just one favorite Amy Grant song. I think I'm going to go with one of her lesser known ones, however. I've always enjoyed "1974" from Lead Me On.

Gosh, to pick a song, that is hard.
I think it would have to be "saved by love"- I think that is what it is called, but goodness, I have so many favorites of hers... gonna have to go visit the itunes store now...

Oh, please include me in your drawing! I googled her book and your blog was the second option. I don't know why I decided that the second option would be better than the first but I'm so glad to have found you! Blessings... Polly

I'd love to read her book. I saw her on the View talking about it. I grew up listening to her and have always been a big fan of her music. I have so many favorites, but if I had to pick one I would say, "In a Little While".
