Fun times at dayhome today!

At the Living to Tell dayhome today:

6 children

2 snack times

1 lunch hour

2 sinks

2 toilets

1 hour notice from the city

for Water shut off

equals NO TOILETS WITH 6 KIDS!

for one WHOLE afternoon!

Yep, they left a little notice on my door handle, that if I wouldn't have happened to look out the window at just the right time to see the nice man in the reflective vest walking up my drivewary I never would have known why I had no water all of a sudden. (deep breath) And they gave me a whole one hour notice that they were turning the water off for. the. afternoon. Cut off to start at noon. Right at the beginning of lunch. Did I happen to mention I have 6 KIDS HERE TODAY?

What did nice little city people suggest when I called to find out how long exactly said water would be off? 'Cause you know, I have 6 PRESCHOOLERS here today! Fill the tub with water and pour buckets into the toilet to make it flush. Let's see that should be about oh, 2000 buckets of water I'll need to pour minimum by my estimation. 'Cause I'm just bored and had nothing else to do today! Did I mention I have 6 KIDS HERE TODAY?! Who have bladders the size of Texas until you tell them there is no water? And then they have to go every 5 minutes?

Is it too much to ask to give a day notice when water is to be shut down for an afternoon, like maybe so I can close dayhome at noon? So that I DON'T HAVE 6 PRESCHOOLERS AND NO WATER!

*ahem* Just had to get that off my chest. Thank you for letting me borrow your ears. Or eyes as it were.

You are cracking me up! I am rolling. I can totally relate. I actually have 10 kids here, I have 6 preschoolers and 4 school age (8 and under)kids. Two of them mine. No water would be NO FUN!!! I hope you managed ok. Vent any time. WE have to in this business.

That would sound like a horror story to me if it just involved me -- I can't imagine with six pre-schoolers!!!

By the way -- I passed on to you the Thoughtful Blogger award today. :-)

Oh. My. Lands. Just sent the kids out to pee on them. That should get them to fix it in a hurry...

Oh, I think a 5 hour trip to the library may be in store for you, assuming they have water.

Yes, I am open 24/7, but don't have kids all the time.

6 preschoolers, yep you need more notice than what they gave you! Glad to listen! Hope all is better now.

Oh my word, Susanne. Awful. I'm so proud of you for knowing about filling the tub and keeping a bucket handy. But still, what a nightmare.

I swear, I truly hate it when anything I need to survive goes down. For me, it was the Internet. On Monday.

You won't appreciate this at all, but I honestly would rather be without water. LOL

You are too funny! What an inconvenience for you and the kids. They really should have given advance notice.

Not funny but your telling of it sure is! I don't know what i'd do with 6 preschoolers! You're amazing!

wow Susanne, did you survive? Obviously you did, how did it go? We are remodeling our second bathroom, hubby is doing it himself..and he shut off the water for half a day- it was horrible. We did the bucket thing too...tho none of my kids were willing to do it, so they would leave it for me....

I can't wait till our bathroom is done!
