Susanne,
I am soo blessed to have two awesome girlfriends who I can totally be myself with! I have know one for ten years and the other for seventeen! They are my prayer partners, encouragers and accountability partners. I thank God for them daily. It is so important to invest in relationships with women! We need each other!

Great post Suzanne. It is hard to take the time to foster friendships when you are raising little ones and keeping a home. But at 50 I'd say it is worth the effort. I know that the friendships I have in my life are my most treasured possessions - a gift from the Lord - and I thank Him daily for them.

Yes, the friends are the treasures in or lives and every new friend in my life I appreciate as a gift from God. Because today people are too busy to stop and listen to you, too busy to care for you, too busy to really know what is love. So, how many friends call to us to hear how we are doing and how is our day today? Unfortunately most of them have agenda or need or emergency. I have been blessed with true friends, yes, friends who pray for me and listens to me or just spend the time with me. But how many doesn't know what really mean to have or to be a friend? Susanne, I believe that there are so many who need a friend! We have to be careful with that God is saying to us because He might want us to be a gift and blessing for someone else.

Susanne, I've been thinking alot about friendships lately. I've always been available to everyone who called, email, etc. for years. People I barely knew would call just because I was there to listen, or give a hug. But several years ago, I quit make myself available because no one has ever been there for me as a friend. Except for Steve.

I'm at a point in my life where both Steve and I would love to have at least one true friend, but everytime we try, we get used one way or the other by those we have opened up to.

In order to make friends you must be friendly, right? That doesn't seem to be the case with us. We've both struggled making real friends are entire lives, but we've always been there for everyone.

Anyway, to make a long story short...we'd both love to have good friends. Pray that God will send us friends that want hurt us, as they always do.

Oops. Pray that God will send us friends that won't hurt us.

I love this post today. I have only a handful of close friends who really know me, and often they have come to my aid even more than family. I look for trustworthiness first in a friend, as well as someone who is encouraging.

I can count my close friends on one hand, too, but we've been friends forever. My best friend, Peggy, is almost like a sister to me. Actually, my sister Bev is probably really my best friend but she's my sister so it's more than that.

To me, a real friend is someone you can be completely transparent, open and honest with, knowing you'll not be judged.
