Book Review ~ "Uncharted"

Every once in a while you come across a fiction book with a concept so riveting, so well written that all you can do when you finish it is to ponder it and think on it and question how reading this book applies to your life. "Uncharted" is that kind of book.

Last fall Booklist named "Uncharted" as one of the Top Ten Books of 2006, and it certainly lived up to that honor. It was riveting, a page turner you cannot put down and in the end very thought provoking. The characters are well developed with personalities that are very different from each other and there are twists and turns you do not ever expect with an ending you wouldn't think of. It is both an entertaining read and a read that challenges you to think deeper. Got your curiosity going yet?

The story is hard to explain in a paragraph without giving anything away. In a nutshell, 5 college friends who have not seen each other in years, gather together to honor the memory of one of their friends by taking on a volunteer job in a poor island helping build a school. Enroute, nature hits them full force and they are thrown into a situation they could never have imagined.

I actually finished this book last week but could not put my thoughts together to write the review right away. I kept thinking on it and going over and over all the nuances and outcomes and how it might relate to my own life. This book stays with you long after you read it. I highly recommend this book. It's definitely a keeper that I will read over.

Thanks for the review Susanne! The book sounds great, and perhaps one that my husband and I could both enjoy.

I am such a Spring Reading Thing dropout. I seem to be reading everything BUT what was on my list.:)

This sounds good -- I'll put it on my "to be read" list!

Wow- sounds intriguing! I usually choose "light" reading to sort of escape, but once in a while, I do like meatier, thought-provoking stories and this one definitely sounds worth picking up! Thanks, Susanne!

Really Susanne, I need to change the name of my wish list to "Susanne's Book List." You make every single book you read sound so interesting. I wish you'd just stop it. I'm never going to be able to buy all the books I've added to my list because YOU read them first! LOL

This one's definitely on my list.

Yeah, yeah, I'm still cleaning. But a girl has to take a break every now and then. Or drop dead.

I'm embarassed to tell you that although Angela Hunt spoke at the writer's conference I attended back in March, I neglected to purchase this book. I could have had it autographed, for pete's sake. I think I was just exhausted. Or something.

Your review has just made me decide to go out and buy it. Tomorrow.

No, really. I'll let you know how I liked it!

Susanne-

Thanks for the review! I am always in need of new authors. I have only read one of her novels, Unspoken, not one of my favorites. I found Uncharted ON THE SHELF at my library. Can't wait to read it.
