Books, books, books

See Susanne's book bag. It's a cute book bag, don't you think? See books given as gifts to Susanne. See books purchased with gift certificates that were given as gifts. See books on sale that Susanne could not resist. See books from Costco bought as total impulse buy because they were way down on the reading list but Susanne could not resist the good buy. Peek inside and see the layer of books deep down in the bag. See Susanne's book bag overflowing. See Susanne's reading list ever growing. See Susanne not darken the door of a book store for awhile. (And if you believe that one, I've got some cheap land way, way up north perfect for raising ice worms I can sell ya.)

And just in case Susanne cannot get enough of books, see Susanne steal this book meme from Stacy at Exceedingly Mundane

Another Book Meme

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback? I like hardback or the bigger paperbacks which I'm assuming is the trade paperback. And going with that assumption, I'm assuming the mass market paperbacks are the smaller ones. (Brandilyn, if you read this post, let us know the answer in the comments). I don't like those because when you hit a certain lovely age those get real hard to read because of the small print.

Amazon or brick and mortar? Definitely brick and mortar. I'm a hands on kind of gal. Although I have ordered a few books off Ebay because they were oh so much cheaper second hand in awesome shape. And I do order from Crossings Book club because I can get a hardback version for the same price as most paperbacks in the store.

Barnes & Noble or Borders? We don't have either of those in my city. We have a Chapters. But because I mostly read Christian fiction I go to the local Christian book store.

Bookmark or dogear? Book mark, definitely! If I don't have one readily available I'll use the flap of the dustcover if it's a hardback.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random? Series together and then I try to do by author, but I don't really have a nice book shelf (yet) to display them.

Keep, throw away, or sell? Mostly keep. If I know I probably won't read again, if it's a Christian book I give it to my church library if they don't yet have it.

Keep dustjacket or toss it? Definitely keep.

Read with dustjacket or remove it? With. See bookmark question above.

Short story or novel? Novel.

Collection (short stories by same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors) Don't read short stories

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Neither. Blech.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? Tired.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? Both

Buy or Borrow? Both. But I try to borrow from library. Rarely do I borrow a book from a friend 'cause I'm so paranoid something will happen to it or I'll forget to return it, which in my eyes is like one of the unforgiveable sins of bookdom.

New or used? Both. Used if in excellent condition.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse? I use all three.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Mostly tidy ending. I don't mind a cliffhanger if I have the next book readily available.

Morning reading, afternoon reading or nighttime reading? Well all of them of course. I take my book with me and when I can catch a minute I pick it up and read a couple more pages.

Standalone or series? Both

Favorite series? Hard Question. Let's see, it'll have to be more than one. "The Redemption Series" by Karen Kinsbury. "The Mark of the Lion Series" by Francine Rivers. "The O'Malley Series" by Dee Henderson. "The Stonewycke Trilogy & The Stonewycke Legacy Series" by Michael Phillips & Judith Pella.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? Well if you've been reading my blog you'll have heard of it but I'll list it anyway: "The prizewinner of Definace, Ohio" by Terry Ryan and "Ribbon of Years" by Robin Lee Hatcher (although I really hope you've heard of this one. It was a book that definitely changed the way I viewed my Christian walk) and "A Man on the Moon" by Andrew Chaikin.

Favorite books read last year? Oh boy, let's see. "The Priewinner of Defiance, Ohio" by Terry Ryan, "Dana's Valley" by Janet Oke and Laurel Oke Logan & "Armando's Treasure" by Melody Carlson. "The o'Malley Series (seven books) by Dee Henderson.

Favorite books of all time? "Ribbon of Years" by Robin Lee Hatcher. "Stonewycke Series" by Michael Phillips and Judith Pella, "A Man on the Moon" by Andrew Chaikin, "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. "The Mark of the Lion Series" by Francine Rivers.

Great book bag Susanne, I love it!
I want to "see" ALL the books in that bag!
Saw that dvd of The Prize Winner of Defiane, Ohio but think I want to read the book first before I watch the movie...pretty good huh?

I've been thinking of doing this book meme from sis Stacy also!

Loved seeing your book bag! This was a great post!

We got some books in the mail the other day, and my daughter opened one, put her nose in it and inhaled deeply... I thought, "That's my girl." Ah, the smell of a book... :)

I just received the last book of the Firstborn Series by Karen Kingsbury yesterday. I was so excited that I literally jumped up and down. (I had ordered it, so it came right to my door, so don't worry, I didn't look like a crazy person in the bookstore or anything!

Oooooh, thanks for all the tips for books. I love when someone tells me of a good book, instead of me browsing through shelves and just picking one randomly. I usually don't do well on picking on my own- I just see a pretty cover and think "that must be good". Don't try that.

That beginning cracks me up, Susanne. You have your's in a nice pretty bag. Mine are in a big old box, just waiting to be read... Like all the stacks in my room and the books in my library que.

Love this meme because it brings two of my favorite things together.

Oh! And let me know what you think of Memory Keeper's Daughter. It looks good, but I've heard opinions waver both ways.

Oh I loved the O'Malley series. I think I read every one of them in 3 days. You need to read the books by Mindy Starns Clark. There is a series. What's it called? Um well the money series.
A Penny for Your Thoughts, Wooden Nickel, Dime a Dozen, and then something about a quarter and a dollar...Very highly recommended. She also has the "Tulip" series but I wouldn't recommend reading it yet b/c she isn't done with the series and if youa re like me it is SO HARD to wait for the upcoming books....

I LOVE your bookbag! And yes, I am the same--those Costco bargains, those books that I just must have. . . .

I just saw these meme somewhere else and I have it saved for a rainy blogging day as well. I loved your answers.

OK, I'm so jealous of that bag of books I may actually throw up. Wow. I'd be over the moon.

And almost all of your answers to this meme are the same as mine are going to be because I am soooo stealing this one from you. Another book meme! Hooray! :-)

I either keep my book open at where Im up to or like you use the dustcover for marking where Im up to

I like to keep my books too

I would never read Harry Potter however Lemony Snicket actually isnt too bad. Each their own.

I try to finish the chapter but sometimes it means I fall asleep with the book in my hands

I like Janet Oke

cool meme might keep it and use it sometime

In keeping with your theme: see Kim turning green with envy, see Kim who has the same BBD as Susanne (book buying disorder), see Kim who brought 7 books for a 3 day weekend away from home so I would have the right one to choose from next...

I did that meme last week sometime. It was so fun.

I love reading other readers' answers to these. Oh, yes, the Redemption series by Kingsbury is one of my favorites. I also really enjoyed Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.

Ok, that book bag is too cute! I was just telling my hubby yesterday that I need a book bag. I need a cute one. Must find one now {mumbling to self}. This, of course, was after I walked out of Sam's (like Costco) with 3 more books. To add to my ever growing pile.

I want to see what all is in the bag, LOL!

So glad you did the meme, I loved reading your answers! Thanks for playing along :)

Have a wonderful day, and Happy Reading!!!

Thanks for sharing your book habits and favorites. I really enjoyed the movie "The Prize Winner of Defiance," so I think I might pick up the book since you enjoyed so much. The book is always better than the movie!
