Humble Pie
And the pie of the month for November is once again Humble Pie. It seems to me that if you are involved with children in any way, whether it is your own or you teach them, care for them, or work with them, no matter their age, at some time you will be served a slice of humble pie. Sometimes it's a sliver, and sometimes the peice is so huge you think you'll choke on it. Out of absolute innocence you are kept in your place just in case you were getting a swelled ego from any outside sources.
I have a couple of slices to share today. The first was my slice. A dayhome child, adorable as can be, said in all seriousness at the lunch table today: "Auntie (they all call me auntie, cute eh?) if you eat all your soup you're gonna be a whale." Okey, dokey. I was afraid to ask him to elabortate on what his little mind was exactly thinking. Sorry, my fitness partner, you know who you are, I guess my portion control is not quite where it should be.
The second slice goes to my friend who told this story. He was having a conversation with his 7 or 8 year old daughter who had just informed him that she would like to have a mare. That's a female horse in case you weren't sure. I wasn't. That's another story. Anyway she told him she wanted this mare but couldn't decide on a name. So he being the amusing father suggested: "Doofus". "No Dad", she said. The he suggested: "Dipstick". That was also met with a negative. So he next suggested "Dimwit" (I'm sure laughing inside at egging his girl on). "Oh, No Dad," she said. "I can't name the mare those names." "Those are all BOYS names."
Hahaha! I think his slice of humble pie was slightly larger than mine! :vD

LOL ~ SO hilarious! I literally cracked up over this one.
Kids are here to keep us humble, aren't they? I know mine do!
Too funny! lol My daughter is sitting on the couch looking at me with a curious look b/c I'm chuckling and she doesn't know what's so funny.
I just love the comments that kids will say out of the blue in complete innocence!
Priceless! Y'gotta love kids.
Hey, whose puppy is that in your sidbar? He looks like my Tucker when he was a pup. And had me doing humbling tasks like picking up poopie.
Thanks for the laugh! I enjoyed both of those stories. :)
His slice was definitely bigger than the slice you got. Too funny.
Oh, now that was a classic! Boy names... Tee hee hee.
Whoa... makes me wonder how much soup you were really planning on eating there. :-)
And those classic "boys" names... oh that is too funny.
Both of these had me laughing out loud!!
The good news about "humble pie"... I don't think you have to count the calories do you? (tee hee hee)....
Out of the mouths of babes. This was too funny. My son once told me that I have a big butt, then he issued a disclaimer and said, but not as big as some mom's. Ok humble pie, bring it on.
So funny. I love posts like this!
Ha, funn-eee! And Auntie, now that is precious. I bet you love it!
I love it! Boys Names. That is cute...portion control? I was doing so well but lately... you got me humbled!
Mmmmm. Yummy!
Kids can be so... well... honest. Painfully so, at times.
Boy names? LOL
LOL I like what Bill Crosby use to say "Kids say the darniest things"
Great stories! LOL
I'm always laughing at what my own girls come up with, too! (And sometimes it's a piece of humble pie!) ;)
Oh, that is just too cute! My eyes are tearing from laughing. Kids come up with the funniest things. :)
"Those are boy's names" is so cute I will have to share that one with my hubby! lol
*grin*
She is going to go far!!!
How is the cold? I hope you're feeling better soon!
Yes children put such a sparkle with the way they express themselves.
That is the post of the week! It's good enough to become an email forward that goes around the country!
How fat can you get on soup anyway?? Love the picture and the pie of the week. Yeah, we eat a lot of humble pie.
