Labor Day Link Love Extravaganza

Boomama is getting creative again! This weekend she is having a tour of blogs. She wants us to go back into our archives, dig out and dust off a post that we think best exemplifies our writing. Scoot over to her place with the link to get all the details and to add your name to the tour. And then enjoy a weekend tour of blogs. Revisit some posts already read and hopefully find some new ones to check out.

I chose this post originally made June 29, 2006. My youngest had graduated elementary school (grade 6) the day before and I was full of mixed feelings. And on this the weekend before she starts grade 7 (junior high), I thought it quite fitting to revisit. And yes, the kleenex came out all over again.

Yesterday my baby girl, all of 11 years old, "graduated" from elementary school. It was bittersweet for me as she's my youngest and like a teacher at the school said, "It is the end of an era" for me. All three of my kids went thru this same elementary school. I'm excited for the new phase for both my girl and me. I'm no longer an elementary mom. I'm now strictly junior high and high school. Where did the time go? It seems just like yesterday

1. That I was learning how to swaddle the blankets just right around you kids.

2. That I was changing those teeny tiny newborn diapers.

3. That we were singing "Yes Jesus Loves Me" before I tucked you in.

4. That I was breathing in the smell of you right after your bath.

5. That I could hold and rock you whenever I pleased.

6. That
I could kiss the boo boo and make it all better.

7. That I'd put my arms out and you jumped from the edge of the pool completely trusting that I'd catch you.

8. That I left the school crying on your first day of kindergarten.

9. That I watched you guys in your first school & church plays and felt so proud my buttons were bursting.

10. That I'd listen to you yell "higher" as I pushed you on the swings and I was thinking "slower".

11. That I watched you score your first basket when you were on the school team.

12. That I sat in parent/teacher interviews and listened as all three of you did me proud as teachers would describe how polite you all were.

13. That I watched with joy as all three of you were baptized together and declared in front of family & friends that your lives belonged to Jesus.

Yesterdays: wonderful memories to hold and cherish. Tomorrows: exciting new paths to walk on & share together with love and laughter.

Thanks for stopping by the other day. I just discovered that you did. I love meeting new cyber friends! It has cooled off drastically here in Colorado - hope it gets to you soon. I love fall!

What a beautiful post! I was just thinking the other day... now I cuddle with Logan every night during his bedtime bottle, but before I know it, I'll turn around and he'll be going off to high school. Time flies...

I'm so glad you chose this post to put in Boo's links. Just reading it brings back all those memories. It's such a big transition going from elementary to junior high school.

It's big for her and it's big for you. I remember feeling sad because I realized I didn't have "little" kids any more and excited at the same time because we were entering whole new territory.

It's so true. They just grow up so fast. When I found myself in the stadium watching my firstborn graduate from college, I asked myself over and over again how in the world that many years had already gone by.

Beautiful post. Beautiful.

Well now I'm crying.

Oh, so sweet.

And oh, what a reminder to me to savor every single day with the little man. It really does fly by, doesn't it?

And just FYI - your blog always makes me smile.

Oh, Susanne. That was too much. *sniff sniff* They do love to yell higher as we think slower. This is a perfect post!

Yep, a tear jerker for sure! I don't know how I'll handle it when I come to the last one. With having alot of kids I put it off more, but will still come way too soon.

Beautiful post!

Very sweet. And I'm sure you had many more than 13 of these. So many memories - our hearts should just burst.

Recently I was marveling that my oldest daughter had out-grown me (by several inches now) and that she is turning into a ...gulp... woman. (if you know what i mean.) It was mind boggling! And then she was just mentioning to me that in a couple of years (ONLY A COUPLE OF YEARS!!) she'll be driving!! !!!???!!! Where has the time gone!?

Thanks for your post!

Okay - pass the CASE of Kleenex over here. This is just way too close to home for me. I'm seeing these milestones (I will write this post when my youngest gets POTTY TRAINED!) as one step closer to empty nested-ness and the end of such a huge part of my life. I guess I have a few years but I still think about it. Your daughter sounds like a wonderful girl. Maybe I'll meet her some day?

Oh...I cried right along with ya' on this one! What a *precious* post. Very timely for me too, as my youngest is now in high school and I am nearing the end of this season of my life. Thanks for sharing (and for stopping by my blog.)
