AAAHHHH, Relaxing Weekend

It was a blessed weekend around here. I can't remember the last time we had such a relaxed, just being, kind of weekend. After posting on Friday about loving my day off, I was so hoping that would work out for Saturday. And it did. What a joy to sleep in a bit, get up and just get to hang out in my jammies. And yes, I did get to drink my coffee hot! Can you believe it? A hot cup of coffee. And I caught up on blog reading with my hot coffee! And I read my book, with you guessed it, my hot cup of coffee. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Tweenie girl had a friend sleep over and I promised them a trip to the mall, so for the first time in forever, I went to the local mall. (Yes, I went on holidays but that dosen't count and just going to the mall on an everyday type basis). You must understand that this is a rarity for me. I just avoid window type shopping and making trips to big malls if I can help it. The way I am, I start to see all sorts of stuff I would like. And stuff I don't need but start wanting. Better to stay at home content and blissfully unaware, not really realizing exactly how behind the times in styles I really am. But I had made a promise. So off we went. I actually even had a mall gift certificate to spend. So while tweenie girl and friend browsed in the girlie shops, I went shopping. Well, if you've read me even for a little while you know how I am with decisions. Oh, the agony. I had about 6 things picked out with money for one, maybe two, things with the gift certificate. Finally I decided. I've for so long have been wanting to put a wreath on my front door to make it more welcoming. And I found a beautiful fall wreath that fit my gift certificate funds. I even had money left to indulge in a 6 pack of those wonderful, huge cinnamon buns they sell in malls. How fun was this!

I also ran into a huge sale at the department store and got myself a beautiful fall green colored shirt and a plum colored crocheted top. Now I totally justify this for a very good reason or two. One, every year for about 5 years, my husband hears me whining each Sunday as we get dressed for church: "I have no clothes that are meant for the fall season. " I have summer & winter clothes . So either I'm freezing & shivering in pastel or light colored summer shirts or I'm sweating a bucket in thicker winter shirts or sweaters. The second justification is that I got the shirt for 30% off and the crocheted top for about 70% off. So now my Beloved Hubby no longer has to hear that same old lament each Sunday morning. I have gifted him with a measure of peace and sanity for cheap. How's that for a good justification?

When we got home I topped it off with another cup of wonderful, hot coffee and watched "Akeelah and the Bee". I'd heard from several people that it was an excellent movie, and I've got to say I agree. While rated in the States as PG (G here in Canada) for some language, it did not continue on for the whole movie. It is mostly in the beginning where her background is being laid out as a child from South Central Los Angeles. Excellent family type of movie with so many redeeming qualities such as hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, honesty, dealing with death, friendship. My tweenie girl really liked it and watched it twice before we had to return it.

Yes, all in all, a wonderful, relaxed weekend. Look out week. You never know what a rested mom, who got her fill of hot coffee and shopping, will accomplish.

i can relate to several things in this post. I hate window shopping. Gets me in trouble every time. And my least favorite thing to shop for is clothes.

I really want to see Akeelah. I've seen previews and know it's going to be a good movie.

And you and I are thinking on exactly the same subject. I still have a gift card Bev sent me for my birthday for Michaels. With the gift card AND my 40% off any one item, I'm going tomorrow to find a beautiful fall wreath for my front door. My sweet petunias are in Heaven now and my front porch looks very bare.

Hope you have a very nice and relaxing week. You're off to a good start!

Aw, fun weekend! And yay for new clothes - I know what you mean about having no in-between clothes, too!
Would Akeelah and the Bee be alright for my 7-year-old? I'd like to watch it with her, but I'm not sure...

Ahhh... a relaxed weekend... I did my best too. I had much to get done, but hubby and I stayed as calm as possible, and did as much as we could, as quietly as we could. And hey, a couple of new tops can go a long way when updating a wardrobe!

You know I feel your pain with the clothing situation. As I put on capris (again) for church last Sunday, I said the very same words. You inspire me. Can I really handle the mall twice in one year??

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Especially the sleepin in, the hot coffee, and the reading with the hot coffee. So often in the morning, I am in a hurry. It is a "need" for me to sit down with the Word, and spend time with my Lord. "The other stuff can wait, Martha, Martha...this one thing is needful for you" says the Lord!

Oh I wish they sold those cinnamon buns here on the Island. It's probably just as well they don't ! :)

Glad you had such a good weekend!

I am not a huge shopper nor do malls thrill me so I can relate and finding a sale is always a thrill when I do end up going.

I will have to check out the movie as well although I did find two old movies really cheap this morning - Cary Grant's His Girl Friday and Carol Lumbard's in My Man Godfrey -- $1.00 each! yeah!

So happy you had a great weekend!

Thanks again for sharing that crock pot recipe. I am printing it out now and plan to try it this week. Looks soooo good!

Oh, I am so glad you had a great weekend. I am just like you when it comes to shopping and malls. Never anything to wear, but shopping isn't worth it! Now, if I were a smaller size it probably still wouldn't matter - I am too much of a tightwad!

I rarely go to the mall, and when I do it is usually to let my six year old ride the carousel. I just watched "Akeelah and the Bee" with my girls two nights ago. I agree that it was a great movie. It did have a couple of really bad words which I had to discuss with the kids. You are right that it was mostly in the beginning.
So glad you had a relaxing weekend with your coffee, oops, I mean your family. I can't get coffee off the brain today.

I am SO glad you had a relaxing, fun weekend! You so deserve it!

Hot coffee, a good book and blogging...AND a successful trip to the mall! What can be better!

(I actually hadn't heard of this Akeelah and the Bee yet...thanks for the recommendation!)

Nice to hear that the weekend was such a good one - makes facing the week a little easier.

Gotta love those big sales, huh? My girls love the mall. (Don't know where they got that - certainly not hereditary.)

We have Akeelah and the Bee on our list of movies to see.

Thanks for giving your thoughts on the movie. My girl is moving into that age where she's interested in some of the more transitional movies like this, but I still want to protect her from mature subject matter.

Love the pic!
