Friday's Fave Five #121

It's Friday and that means looking back over the week and searching out our blessings big and small and sharing our favorite five.  Please join in with us.  If you are new, get the details here.

1.  Under the Overpass.  I finished off this book which I started over the Christmas holidays.  In a nutshell it's the story of a young college student who felt the Lord was leading him to go live homeless on the streets of several American cities over a five month period.  There is so much in this book that opened my eyes and challenged me in my thinking and attitudes and my definition of my Christian walk.  I'll have a more detailed review in the next few days.  But if you can get ahold of this book it is well worth your time.  It will draw you right in.  You can have a sneak peek of the first chapter here.

2.  A good start to my week back to work after the holidays.  Those first few days are always hard going back after being off for 10 days but my week has been on the slower side and it's been nice to just ease back into it rather than jumping into the deep end with it.

3.  Normal meals and eating.  Don't get me wrong, I love all the holiday food.  Those foods you only eat at the holidays, the constant yummies where ever you go but there comes a point where it is just becomes too much.  I'm glad to be back to "normal" everyday meals and snacks.

4.  Daughter arriving safely at her destination as well as us getting home safe.  On Sunday when we drove our oldest to another city to catch  her bus, the weather took a turn for the worst.  The roads were horrible.  Really horrible.  It was a white knuckle drive there and back for us.  And for her, her bus also kept stalling so before she even got out of the city limits, they had to sit in the stalled bus and wait an hour and half for another one.  We were sure glad to get her text saying she had arrived safely.  It came at one in the morning, about 2  1/2 hours later than her original arrival time, but she was safe.  Praise God!  We could now actually sleep.

5.  The new puppy.  You know I have to mention him.  It's been so much fun having him and he's totally fitting right in.  He full of exuberant energy and loves to play.  He's even pretty good with the dayhome kids for a puppy and he learns fast.

What have been your favorite blessings over the week.  Share in a post and link on up so we can come and visit.

What a lovely puppy! I'm glad your daughter arrived safely at her destination. Us mothers do not sleep until we know our kids are safe, now do we? I enjoyed all the good food, but I'm also very glad it's back to normal again! Counting the days till Spring now!

That is it, it is over now and I have to say I'm soooooooooo glad to get back to some routine. I love the holidays way too much especially the food part.

Nice to hear your daughter made it back safe.

I agree about the first week back at work being hard. I felt that too. Glad you had it the way you wanted.

Glad too that your daughter is back safe. The puppy! How cute!

Good morning Suzanne! Your new puppy is adorable. Looking forward to him starring in a few fffs.
Glad you and your daughter arrived safely - winter travelling is always tricky.

It's quite a change to go back to normal eating - I like it but my tastebuds are a bit spoiled for sweets - and there's still some left around. I put about 5 boxes of chocolates and candy in the freezer hoping that would deter me... have you ever had frozen chocolates? They're pretty good! lol :)

Hope you have a great weekend - and thanks again for hosting!

Wow glad to hear your daughter arrived safely....I hate those kind of trips. Yes as much as I savored the holidays, a routine is nice to get back into. :) Oh and yes all that holiday food is behind us! :)

I agree - it's so nice to get back to normal eating! I love the Holidays but enough is enough.

What a cute puppy!

I totally sleep so much better once I know my girls are home, so I definitely understand your relief to know your girl made it home safely!

Living homeless would be a very hard thing to do. I commend that guy -- I don't know if I could do it.

I'm glad you had a good start back to work. We were overloaded on holiday goodies, too, and though I love them they were a bit much. Hard to say no when they're there, though!

I'm glad your daughter and your family arrived at your destinations safely. I think knowing a child is traveling in hazardous conditions is harder that doing so myself in many ways -- I know how comforting that text must have been!

So glad the new puppy is working out so well!

I too think that puppy is adorable. I'm sure the daycare kids are going to love playing with him. It's so true that we parents just don't rest until we know our children are safe in such unsafe conditions. Have a happy (normal) weekend :)

I love seeing pictures of your puppy. The past year has gone so fast and my puppy is now full grown. Although she doesn't realize it, because she still loves to sit on our laps (and she's 45 pounds now).

So nice to have everything back to 'normal.'

Is the puppy a white German shepherd? I have one and I love them!

I've heard of that book and thought it looked very interesting. Now with your recommendation I'll probably order it.

Glad you've had a good journey back to 'normal'

Under the Overpass sounds like a very convicting book. Glad you got a good start on the new work year. I love holiday food, too, but I’ve felt better this week eating more healthy foods again (relatively speaking!). It’s always nice when our kids get back to where they need to be. Your puppy is adorable. Have fun!

LOVE your puppy! We've just started talking about getting a puppy to keep our geriatric dog company, but I keep thinking I'm just too old to mess with a puppy again. ;)

Hi Susanne,
It's always a relief to get the phone call or the text that our kids have arrived safely to their destination. I'm happy to be back to normal myself. That book sounds very interesting...

The puppy is adorable and I hope we get to keep seeing pictures of him!

I agree with you, the day comes when plain food tastes good again

That book sounds SO interesting! I'll have to look into that.

I know what you mean about getting back to normal food...

The puppy is PRECIOUS! I have boys on the road this weekend, going back to college, so I can relate to safe travel as a blessing, too.
So glad to have FFF to come "home" to!

Oh he's cute! And I think the Overpass book has some connection to my hometown, not sure.

That book looks really good! What kind of puppy is that? He looks just like one we lost 2 years ago. We now have 2 ragamuffins of course we adore them :)
I am so glad your daughter arrived safely the weather is so scary lately everywhere.
I am a new visitor and follower.

A new puppy? How fun! But that book, Under the Overpass, I'm intrigued. How interesting. I think I'll see if I can get it on my kindle.
