Welcome to Friday's Fave Fives. I'm keeping my tulip button up this week in a determined effort to believe spring is just around the corner. We had a snow dump yesterday morning and another is expected over the weekend starting this afternoon. We had such a dry winter that I'm going to choose to be thankful for the moisture. Eventually in it's own good time spring will be here. But until then let's look back over the week and find what blessed us and share five of our favorites.
~ weekend movie afternoons ~ Hubby and I have an extensive blu-ray collection that has built up over the years. This year we determined to watch one of them a weekend and make a decision whether its a favorite and something we will watch over and over again and therefore a keeper or whether we feel we're good to say goodbye to it. It's been kind of fun looking forward to the shared time and it feels good to free up space
~ vanilla slice treat ~ Hubby had to make a delivery in a little town that has a good Dutch bakery and he stopped in and picked me up one of my favorite pastries. Vanilla slices remind me of my childhood when Mom and Dad would treat us with one occasionally. It was very thoughtful of him and I enjoyed every bite.
~ surprise mail ~ Yesterday I opened the mailbox to find this cute envelope in there addressed to me. (Of course I scratched off the personal info on it,)
Upon opening it, I found the most lovely watercolor painting of a book and flowers, 2 of my favorite things. My friend painted me a picture to let me know she was thinking of me. What a blessing that was on the tail end of a tough month. She had no idea I'd been sick or injured my knee, yet at just the perfect timing she sent me this. The envelope already had me smiling but the painting and note was a real gift. I'm going to frame it for my bookshelves. Isn't she talented? And she only started painting last fall.
~ time change ~ Ok I am going to be quite frank, I hate the time change, whether springing ahead or falling back. My body just does not handle it well. But I am thankful for more daylight at the end of the day. I just wish they would quit messing with nature the way God created it and let my circadian rhythm stay the in the same groove throughout the year.
~ a return to neighborhood walks ~ my knee has healed enough that I have been able to get out some days after work to take Tux for short walks around the neighborhood. Sometimes it's only around a block or two before the knee starts getting fatigued or sore but yesterday I was able to go over a mile. Not briskly, but a nice slower yet steady pace. So thankful to be able to be out doing that again.
What have been your favorite blessings this week?

Glad you’re able to get out walking again. I hear you about the time change—was glad to leave that nonsense behind when we moved to Saskatchewan. That’s such a pretty watercolour your friend sent for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat way to go through your video collection. How thoughtful of your husband to pick up one of your favorite treats. I never thought of addressing an envelope that way--how fun. And that watercolor is amazing, especially since your friend hasn't been painting very long. That's encouraging because I've been wanting to dabble in watercolors.
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of the time change, either, especially this one where we lose an hour. I wish they would leave it one way or the other. I imagine your dayhome kids had a time adjusting as well.
Glad you were able to get out on walks again!
YAY For getting outdoors for a walk.
ReplyDeleteI had NEVER had trouble with the time changes in Autumn or Spring but for some reason, this year was TOUGH! I even changed the clocks before dinner to psych myself up that it was actually an hour later but nope....for some reason I struggled all day Sunday until I had a third mug of coffee which helped. :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE that your friend sent you this. I'll have to show Courtney. She watercolors and it's her preferred media for painting/art. That is LOVELY and I would def frame it. how special!
It's funny you mention the dvds. We are doing the same thing, Susanne!! We are slowly going through and got rid of a LOT.....some were VHS tapes that our youngest wanted (she has our old video player and yes it still works!!) and Courtney has taken any of the DVDs we don't want and the library WAS taking old ones but apparently they don't want them anymore. I'm wondering where to bring unwanted ones. We definitely have more to go through and some are keepers (Les Miserables, Casablanca, White Christmas, Dead Poets Society, ones on the top 100 list of great movies...Citizen Kane) but some.....we need to find a home for.
I love that your hubby surprised you with a Dutch treat. YUMMY.
Happy weekend
How nice of Hubby to bring you home a treat and that surprise from your friend is lovely. That's a good way of working through your DVDs. We still have a lot and rarely watch them - you can find so much through the TV channels these days, we never seem to be short of something to watch. Yes the time change is a pain but worth it for the longer lighter days. Glad your knee is allowing you to get out for walks. Have a good weekend Susanne.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. That watercolor painting is beautiful. And yes, your friend is talented.
ReplyDeleteI am glad your knee is improving and that you can be out walking in the neighborhood with the pup.
Enjoy the weekend and another movie :)
Hi Susanne, sounds like a nice list of blessings. Good that you are doing better at walking. My hubby and I like to watch our shows together. Nice to see the older movies too! That painting is really nice, how special! Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat's nice that you can walk again, slowly, slowly it will get better ! I don't like the time changes either, I feel much better with the so said summer time ! I am still suffering with my zona ! apparently it lasts more then a month !
