Friday's Fave Five #873

Welcome to a decidedly colder Friday's Fave Five.  I know lots of us are getting a huge dose of winter this week.  But no matter the temperature or what the weather is or isn't doing we can always look for things to be grateful to God for.  Please join in as we make taking note of those blessings part of our everyday lives.  I also want to apologize for not getting around to commenting.  It's been one crazy week but hopefully I can get caught up this weekend.

~ warmth in the cold ~ with the cold blowing in I am very thankful for the blessing of my good working furnace keeping the house nice and toasty warm.

~ warm fuzzy throw blankets ~ we took down the electric fireplace we had had in the living room because it was starting to make some noise.  But in doing that we don't have that extra bit of heat that it gave in that particular room anymore, so I'm thankful for the blessing of soft, fuzzy throw blankets to curl up under while watching tv or reading a book.

~ haircut ~ I was in desperate need of a trim and reshaping so was happy I had a pre-set appointment this week.  I'm thankful for my hairstylist who always gives a great cut and goes above and beyond with a wonderful scalp massage with fragrant essential oil.

~ Operation Christmas Child celebration ~ In Canada, all Connect Volunteers were invited to a special zoom presentation and celebration this week to learn what God did during the collection season 2025.  It was fun hearing the total number of boxes each province packed and Canada's total this year (we Canadians filled 458, 768 shoebox gifts for children around the world)  along with other stories of the way God moved through various circumstances and volunteers this last year.

~ less knee/leg issues ~ hubby got me a vibration plate for my birthday  after trying out one my brother in law had.  I've got horrible circulation in my legs and the last couple years I've had some lesser mobility in one of my knees and some shin pain in that leg.  It's apparently supposed to help by stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage.  I've been trying to use it consistently on a daily basis, starting with 10 mins a day and have now worked up to 15 - 20 mins with variable speeds.  I do believe it might be helping.  I'm noticing more flexibility and less achiness.

What have been your favorite blessings from the last week?

Wow! That number of helping children is quite impressive. Way to go Canada! I'm glad that your leg is feeling better. I hope that it continues to improve.

Question about the vibration plate (I've read tons of articles about them and it seems there are more cons than pros so it's nice to know someone who actually HAS one): according to Pt and Chiro they're best to use when doing stretches and squats or planks...those types of exercise. So do you do certain toning exercises with yours for maximum results or do you just stand and balance on it? I've been wondering if it's worth the $90. (the one i saw on amazon). A reviewer said it was great until she got to level 30 and then tension began in her back which is exactly what i want to avoid!! haha
It's cool that it relieves sore muscles though! I"m glad you're getting relief in your legs.
I also wrote about cozy blankets!
We saw on the morning news today that your area (or maybe it was British Columbia..now i can't remember) was -35!!!! (F) that is COLD!!!
Love your blessings and I hope you have a cozy weekend with good books and hot coffee :)

We have a gas fireplace in the family room, but it has an odd smell when we turn it on, so we haven't used it in years. We talk sometimes about taking it out. But it has a projection from the wall built around it, so it would take some doing.

I love throw blankets, too. I also got a haircut this week! How neat to hear of the OCC numbers. I had not heard of a vibration plate--I'll have to look them up. My circulation isn't great in my lower legs due to fluid pooling there and not getting back up through my system. I have my feet propped up almost any time I am sitting. I wonder if something like that might help.

not looking forward to that arctic blast that is going to push down from the north tonight! I hope you stay warm and cozy. I always enjoy a fresh haircut. Hope that vibration plate helps you! I've heard of them but been skeptical...

Hi Faith. Sent you an email cause it's too long to answer here but generally speaking I have not got to that level yet as I'm working into it slowly and so far have not felt any tension in my back.

My nephew bought one of those vibration things for my sister and it's helping her. So many tricks and gadgets to aid us. :) Blankets have been appreciated down here, too, with this blast of cold air! Hope you have a cozy weekend.

Hi Susanne. A good furnace and warm, cozy blankets are winter essentials. So glad that you found something that helps your leg pain. You helped many children with OCC. Truly God's work. Have a good weekend.

Brr I'm glad we don't have the temperature (or lack of it) like you do so yes blankets and working furnaces are essential! Glad you're getting some relief for your legs, hope it continues to improve. Wow that's an amazing response to the OCC. Well done Canada!
Have a restful warm weekend Susanne.

Oh yes! We are ALL thankful for warm homes and blankets!
That is an amazing number of boxes for OCC just from Canada!
I'm glad that you are getting some relief for the leg issues.
Stay warm and safe this weekend!

We still not have snow, it is rather warm for January 10°C ! Warm blankets I don't need here, it's almost too warm ! Sometimes I have 24°in my room and even with an open window it's still hot. As the heat comes out of the floor I can't do anything about it. Here too all kind of organizations collect food and clothes for children in need, with two wars going on it is really necessary. A haircut lifts the mood sometimes we need a new head !

However crazy the weather gets, I'm thankful you are ready for it, having lived with cold cold winters a while. It's the areas that don't have that experience... scary!

I just heard about the latest count of last season's Christmas Child boxes (probably world-wide) at 12.2 million! So amazing. Thanks for sharing Canada's share.

That's interesting about the vibration plate -- so glad to know you've noted some improvements from using it.
