Friday's Fave Five #872

Well hello and welcome to FFF!  I had to take my blowing snow button off for this week and put up something different because there's been nary a hint of snow all January so far and it felt weird to have it up.  In fact, Wednesday, our city broke it's record for warmth registering in at 17.5*C.  That's 63.5*F!  What???  That record was last set in 1942.  I even slept with the window open slightly that night. But not to worry, we can keep the winter gear out as next week we will be back to the normal chilly January and my winter buttons will magically reappear.  So what were your favorite blessings this last week?

~ a very restful Sunday ~ there is always something that is going on or needs doing but this last Sunday the most exertion I had was going to church and then cooking lunch.  The rest of the day I literally lazed around and read, watched tv and even had a nap.  I never, ever nap.  I think it was a combination of the very busy Christmas week followed by a busy work week,  a whopping headache the night before that always tires me out, and now in hindsight, I know I had the beginning of a cold trying to take hold.  But I'm thankful I had that Sunday and listened to my body telling me it needed a day of absolutely no running around.

~ chocolate chai ice cream ~ oh my.  One of the flavors of the month at my fave local ice cream shop.   Rich chocolate ice cream swirled with chai ice cream which has cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and clove.  It's amazing and a new favorite!  Hope they bring it back again.  Meanwhile I'm getting another pint to have one hand for later.

~ snail mail ~ I received two delayed Christmas cards in the past week week from blogging friends Faith and Linda and another back in December from my blogging friend at Nikkipolani.  These are such a blessing to me and I really appreciate the time and effort and notes of encouragement and news.  Thank you ladies!

~ tea with honey and lemon ~ fighting off a cold this week I turned to what my mom always made for me when I didn't feel well...hot tea with lots of honey and lemon.  Took me right back to the home I grew up in sitting in the kitchen in my jammies with a steaming mug.  It was like a hug from my Mom.

~ zinc, vit C and E@rly Defense ~ as soon as I realized I was starting to not feel well, I started taking extra zinc and vit c and starting using the cold product that supposed to help ward off a cold becoming worse.  The combination seems to have worked for the most part, other than the fatigue, and has kept the other symptoms to a minimum.  I'm thankful there is stuff that we can do to help minimize these dreaded winter colds from really taking hold.  Have you found anything that works well for you when a cold tries to come on you?

What are your blessings from the last week?

so many good blessings in your week.
Thanks for explaining about the birds on a wire pic. Everyone thinks I'm in feet of snow but nope....here in eastern NY we have not had snow since the week before Xmas and then it was only 3 inches. It is gone. I want some. I'm envious of your 63 F!! Our temps have been mild for January (40s) but today it's a whooping 16 F as I write this. BR. I want some snow to go with the cold.

Glad your at home remedies work. I haven't been ill this winter and hope it stays that way but I do take a daily OnGuard by Doterra when I feel a sore throat coming on and then I drink herbal tea with vitamin C added. I just found this tea last week and wrote about it on my last faves. It's delicious. No honey needed although if I did have a sore throat I'd put a drizzle of honey in it.

Yes...taking a Sabbath rest once a week is vital. I'm glad our Lord modeled it for us. I'm getting better about doing it. Sometimes my Sabbath is on a Saturday as my Sundays tend to be filled with ministry duties.

I'm glad the Xmas letter and card finally arrived!

Happy weekend!

Restful Sundays are so good. Glad you had one. Hope your cold symptoms all disappear sooner than later. Ahh, honey and lemon does bring back memories.

You know, I felt the same last week. I thought that it was the result of all the Christmas activities finally getting to me and my body telling me to take a break. And I did! Glad you are fighting off the cold. My memories are the smell of Vics and my mom changing my bedsheets while I took a hot shower. : )

I'm glad the Chriatmas greetings made it across the border.
It is so good to have those rest days.
I hope you feel better soon. I'm taking Airborne today to head off a cold. Also, Traditional Medicinals has a tea I use-- herbal cold care. And I add honey to it. I should try the lemon and honey tea.
Have a restful weekend.

I had a bronchitis the whole week, I felt awful. Now it's a bit better but still not completely gone. Good that you had a lazy Sunday, sometimes our body needs that very much. I can't complain, when I am sick, I could be lazy all the time ! Fortunately there is my computer !

I was sorry to miss FFF this week. I had a procedure Friday and didn't have my thoughts together enough beforehand to get a post ready.

Yay for a restful Sunday. I'm glad you were able to get a head start on fighting off your cold. I cant take decongestants, so I mainly use Tylenol and cough drops and try to rest as much as possible.

Cards in the mailbox are such a delight.

Hi Susanne, so glad to hear you are doing better with your cold. I use Mentholatum nightly under my nose and I have not had a bad cold in a long time. I hope you continue to feel better. Our lows for the day can ben in the 50's. We were in the high 79's, low 80's this week.

I think that's the ultimate luxury: time to do nothing (or very little) and not feel guilty.

You've done well with anti-cold remedies (and a little hug from Mom). Roomie takes the Alkaseltzer cold medicine that seems to knock it right out as long as she takes it early (I can't take it bc aspirin).
